Help me select an LCD for my brother, PLEASE!

I need advice on some LCD models. My brother is buying one this weekend and he knows nothing about TVs. I want to help him out to make some suggestions. Here are some details.

He will used this TV for 99.99% gaming on the Xbox 360 and the soon to be released PS3. The rest will be movies (maybe 1 or 2 hours a month). No TV viewing on this. He wants a TV set 24 - 32" and would actually prefer 27" over anything else. He is not sure on his budget but wants to keep it "around" $1,000. He sits very close to the TV, probably 6' would be the maximum. Wants widescreen of course.

He actually would prefer a tube TV but from what I can tell hardly anyone makes them anymore.

I do not want to get im a set that has been prone in the past to motion blur, etc. as he plays games for hours (like 12 hours + on the weekends).

Also, he needs a set that he can purchase at a local store (i.e. Best Buy, Circuit City) because he will not order through the Internet.

Any insight or suggestions would be GREATLY appreciated!!!!!!!

Samsung lns26 series, those are pretty good.
If he goes up to 30" there will be a few tubes he can choose from.

the xbox360 will do a decent job playing back the dvd movies.

do yourself a favor and do not get a tube televison. Spend the extra money and get an LCD, you will be so much happier, and won't have to deal with the problems that plague tube tv's.

Now that confuses me, what problems plague tube TVs? Aren't they better in all respects? Even plasma is rated as closest to Tube TV quality. Everything compares itself to tube. Almost no burn in (better then LCD). What else can be wrong?

If glare is an issue, he does all his gaming in a room with no windows, completely dark so no problems there. What else does Tube suffer from?????

what are the problems that plague tube tv's? Other than size and weight.

The problem with CRT Direct View TV's is they are cheaper and have the best picture. If these two items are not your concern then look into Plasma and LCD. :D

Little more than a thosand but the Panasonic TC-26LX60 would be my choice.

Tubes have geometry problems, and the picture will never be as sharp as an LCD.

Toshiba still makes some nice CRT widescreen (16:9) 26" and 30" TVs for under $1000.

Well it is true, lcds tend to have a sharper image. And also many crt tube displays have geoemtry errors.

true SOME tubes have geometry problems, and I'd have to disagree on a sharper image. I'd say sharpness are about even, however, the colors are much better on a tube, no motion blur.

Overall better picture, and better price, I'd go with a tube unless you really need the space.

I had 2 tubes before i got fed up with geometry problems and went lcd. I had a JVC and a Samsung... both had horrible geometry. I also so a Toshiba in the store that had horrible geometry. The only tubes ive ever heard of being near perfect are the Sony's. But at that point your getting 2ft deep and close to 200 pounds.
