Unplugged everything in the system, then started with the simplest first - just the TV and BD player, assuming the ground hum was coming from the SAT line/Hd receiver.
WRONG! The rolling lines were still visible even when the only unit connected to the TV was the BD player. Although - they weren't nearly as noticeable. So I've kind of resigned myself to the fact that it's something flakey in the TV's 1080i circuitry, and beyond my ability to correct.
However, I did come up with a scheme that minimizes the issue to the point where it's acceptable and not nearly as annoying. I now have two "Clean Power" nicer surge protectors (one from Monster, one A/R), and have Isolated the TV and INDAY component switcher to one of them, and put all the other components through the other, including the DTV HD box, and ran the incoming SAT Coax cable through the filter on that particular Surge Protector. It's definitely noticeably better. (to me a least, it's lost on the wife, but that's fine)
And yes, the guns were cleaned with the wet method. Didn't want to scratch the lenses. That particular tweak was one the wife did notice. That and cleaning the little spot of Fly poop off the lenticular screen on the inside when one got in there and flew around while we were watching one night. That was pretty funny. A Giant Fly silhouette on the screen as he tries to land on one of the guns!
Anywho - bob, are there any other Special Tweaks for the early Pannys like mine that I can try? I disconnected the SVM circuit a while ago and the contrast level is So much better. I'm always up for new tweaks if it will give a better picture, or help the life of the Set.
Good job on that. Car stereo installers know a lot of tricks about getting rid of noise also, they have to. Like running the signal wires on one side of the car and the power wires on the other -
Hope you did the deeper optics as well, on your optics cleaning -
Is there such a thing as early vs. late, on tweaks? If you have been running your contrast at midpoint - 31 of 63 - and have been mindful of screenburn, you should have at least 3 more years out of her, looking good as new. Or better -
Overscan reduction is one of my favorite tweaks. Via sm or shimming your guns closer to the mirror, if possible on your set. Either way will require retweaking your pic, plus if shimming, a new optical focus/geometry/conv op.
Is your grayscale correct, at D6500K?
Is your color decoding linear, without the red push it comes with, built-in?
I never disco'd my SVM on my Panny, BTW. And the Sharpness does not change on the HD scanrates, no matter where you set it on the bargraph. Yet I am fine with the picture just as it is, can't see how disco'ing the SVM would do any good. I don't want NO ee in my pic. In most sets you need just a little, it's too smooth without any, tho also in most sets midpoint of the Sh bargraph is best, between the video dulling to the left, and the edge enhancement to the right of the bargraph.
