The next paragraph said to try connecting device via componenet cables, letting receiver process the signal and send out to TV via HDMI. That just flat out didn't work either. Finally, the 3rd paragraph said if you connect to receiver via component cables, you have to connect out from the receiver to the display via component. Does this work? Yes. Is the picture as good as it was going directly from the DirecTV unit to the TV via HDMI and skipping the receiver? No.
I'll be skipping the receiver for this device and going straight to the TV from the DirecTV unit. I still will have digital optical running the audio from the DirecTV to the receiver.
It has been an improvement in sound (from my 6+ year old Sony DA3ES), but not significantly. I bought this device to do HDMI switching.
Am I missing something that will allow me to run 1 HDMI cable from DirecTV to receiver and have a picture on my display (through HDMI out to display) and get audio from the receiver/speakers?
I received my 82txs today, and hooked it up. While I have many tweeks to make, it is working fine between my HR10-250 TiVo and SONY SXRD (which is fully HDCP compliant). I tested both direct HDMI and upconverting the component signal and both worked. (By the way, I also had the adendum in the box, but didn't need to try alternatives.)
I know that isn't much help in getting yours working, but the combination definitely can work together.
Were you using the HR10-250 HDMI output before you got the 84txsi? Some of the DirecTivos have HDMI output problems...
