1080p/24 + 480i/60 -> ???
Of course, that is solved by the content creators making the PiP stream natively compatible with the main feature rate. Why the players should have to manage content creator laziness/cheapness is beyond me.
This 60p stuff may be being pushed by the CE to manage costs. They then only need to support 60 cycle outputs on players and inputs on displays: 480i/60, 480p/60, 720p/60, 1080i/60 and now 1080p/60. Easy, and crappy. But it can be marketted as the the highest quality since, of course, bigger numbers are automatically better, right? (60 > 24).
Another thing is the DVD upconversion. Some DVD could be kept 24p too, couldn't they?
