2007 Mitsubishi 57” and 65” 831 Owner's Thread [NO PRICE TALK] - Page 18

Anyone that has tried a AVHDD (1394 hard drive) with any of these sets care to report their experiance?

I have had the 65831 for some time now. I am using the TV to upconvert the HD signal and a lot of the times the screen goes blue (no signal).
If I switch over to the SD Fox channel and then back to the HD Fox channel the signal comes in. I can switch through HD channels and then go back to Fox, and again, the blue screen. This also occasionally happens to other HD channels. Very annoying. Also, it takes for ever for the TV to output video when switching through HD channels. Is this normal? I have Comcast. Does anyone have a solution to this problem? What can I do?

Hey guys,

I don't know if this is the correct place for this post, but at the moment I can't find the general mits **831 thread. I recently moved, and I had movers take my television from my old apartment to the new one. When I tested out the television in the new place, it was night time, and everything appeared to be fine. Now when I look at it in the day time, there appear to be four marks just to the left of the center of the screen. They are almost like horizontal smudges, but they are not on the outside surface of the screen. It almost appears that there is a cloth type of material behind the screen that is sagging and the four "smudges" are folds or wrinkles in that material. When the television is on the picture is entirely unaffected EXCEPT when the picture goes black in relatively bright ambient light. I'm wondering if I'm seeing something that's completely normal, but different because of the different ambient lighting of the new place, or if this is a real problem. I'm leaning toward the latter, and I was wondering if anyone had this problem before or has any ideas on what it could be (and how much it will end up costing me). Thanks in advance.

Juztin,

I have found that the issue is in the DVR or Cable Box and not the TV. Flipping channels, or turning the DVR off and back on generally clears it up. It is caused by a slight glitchiness in the HDMI compliance of the DVR or cable box. The only fix will be to wait for future revisions of the boxes. In the mean time, the work around is fairly easy as you have seen, and although annoying it doesn't eat up much time.

hi everyone,

so....I had to get my LE replaced and finally got the service guy to do his thing about a month ago, well, about two weeks later the lamp dies. So I replace the lamp last week thinking this TV should look like new now and it should be glorious, but much to my chagrin now I am noticing a lot of graininess in the screen specially on semi dark shots, and this is in HD through DirecTV.
I know that the unit did not look like that before I had the LE or lamp replaced, so now I am wondering what the heck happened??
Everything in my system is the same, the only stuff that is different now are the new LE and the new lamp. I've had the TV for a little over 12 months.

Anyone have any ideas as to what is going on? Would a defective LE make the picture grainy under certain conditions? (i.e. darker backgrounds). This is so frustrating

What you describe could be reflections from the light engine. I usually see the smudge in the center of my screen when it is off. It never really affects the picture.

i have brand new lamp for the 831 series and 73732. my mits is going to be replaced and i won't need it. i purchased a lamp while i waited for my warranty lamp to arrive and now i obviously don't need it. i'd prefer to sell it local, so if you are in the tulsa area, send me a PM. i paid $250 plus a deposit, so i'd be willing to sell it for $200.

Correct me if I am wrong, but isn't the lamp part of the Light Engine??

It might be you are just 'looking' for something different. You may have graduated from beginner to advanced where you are noticeing 'things' that were there before, but you just didn't take notice.

BTW, the very good side by side comparision that HomeTheater Magazine did back in Feburary confirmed what you now see; Mits DLPs' are noisey and have excessive edge enhancement;
http://hometheatermag.printthis.clic...partnerID=3830

Mits finished 2nd last out of six RPTVs'.

The lamp in the 57831 is housed in the same sub chassis the holds the light engine. I know because I had the problem described above where everything was soft focused and there were halos on everything. First call the serviceman replaced the lamp. Of course no joy. The second call got the light engine replaced and all is now well. During replacement of the light engine the tech removed the "new" lamp and reinstalled it in the replacement light engine.

hey guys,

i've been looking on and off for a few days, and i can't seem to find the 65831's refresh rate. i found on a strange website that it has 120hz (120 fps), but i can't find any other source to confirm it, so i wanted to check here.

if i understand correctly, if it has a 120hz refresh rate, then the 65831 can handle displaying 24fps sources at 24fps (without the 3:2 (or is it 2:3) pulldown and resulting potential issues), correct?

Thanks in advance.
60hz
I found the artical quite BOGUS.....
I have the 65831 & I have had no issues as the article compared a those sets to a 731 series set I believe.
Some of the other sets were top of line...
The 65831 will handle 24fps as well as 30 or 60fps. I have not seen anything on 120fps.
Yes, it handles 24fps, 30fps and 60fps. But its refresh rate in all cases is still 60hz (it has to upconvert the frame rate when fed 24fps or 30fps.)

So then my question is, is the mits actually displaying 24fps AT 24fps? From what i've read on this forum, my understanding is that a 60hz screen with a 24fps source = 2:3 pulldown display. the only TVs capable of properly displaying 24fps AT 24fps are screens with a refresh rate that is a multiple of 24 (such as 120).

so i'm not getting a display of true 24fps, but rather a converted 2:3 pulldown. Is that correct?

Thanks again
That is correct. It displays everything at 60Hz.

I just got my new 57831 set up and I am really impressed. I am replacing a Samsung HLR-5078W 50 inch DLP and there is no comparison. The Mitsuibshi picture is MUCH nicer. The color is amazing.

(The Samsung was such garbage the warranty company basically bought me rather than have to fix it again. Fortunately they gave me enough to by the larger Mistubishi)

I am guessing the main difference is that the sammy has a 7 segment (RGBRGB Dark Green) wheel and the Mitsubishi has the 6 color wheel (RGBCYM). Whatever it is I am sold on Mitsubishi.

Anyway, this set rocks.

The only minor annoyance (so far) is that the fans are a little loud. I am hoping they break in and quiet down a little, but they are only a problem when muted or in very quiet passages.

hey guys, question.Ive had my 65831 for a little over a year now,Im noticing I cant seem to get my screen bright enough.also when I do get it brighter,it seems like their is a greyness to everything.any suggestions?I have extended warr through tweeter
post #529 of 543
this is the same problem i have.
73831, and have had a bumbling service tech come in to attempt a fix.
i also had a bad flickering problem that still occurs but not as much.
the bumbler hardly knew what he was doing and seemed unfamiliar
with the tv as he nearly ahd to take the entire tv apart to get to a small board that he replaced.

i still have a dark picture.

using natural setting i have to turn contrast and bright up very high into the 40's to get a decent picture.

if i keep it low i get a just dark or black crush issues.

i have sent several emails to mits on this but it took the third one to get a response and the response was we can't help you through email, please call us and they gave me a phone number.

so i'll call next week.

Hi Everyone,
Looking from my records I replace under warranty the Lamp for our 57831 at 2,384 hours June 1, 2007, we only purchase it August of 2006. My replacement just blew tonight with 2201 hours of useage. When I spend this amound of $$$ and the lamp won't even go a full year there is something wrong. Especially since I was being told the new lamp designs were getting 5-6,000 hours before replacement.

Anyone have a good source for the 180 watt lamps Mits Part #915P049020? how much trouble to replace into the original housing.

Thanks to all
James

All xx831 owners out there. 57831, 65831, 73831. Does anyone have firmware v8.03?
Remote MENU->SETUP. Version shows on upper right as V33+ 008.03

If you have it, when did you get it from Mits?

My WD-57831 has been in the repair shop for two weeks now, out of service coming up to about a month. I called the shop and they say they ordered a power unit, baffle, new lamp and are hoping this will cure the EARLY LAMP FAILURE. Now waiting for parts to be sent to them.

Hello Everyone if you still monitor this posting.

Previous postings I mentioned that two lamps had burned out at 2300 hours and 2100 or so hours. Had it repaired from Mits with a new ballast (power unit) and they also gave me a new lamp.

Well I am over a year since that repair in Feb/Mar of 2008 and I now have 3,771 hours on the lamp. Working pretty good this far. But I have been taking the lamp out once a month to blow off any dust build up. Just too bad I had the problems with it at the beginning and all the phone calls to Mits. But hats off to Mits they did fix it for me.

Best to all

Check this link for Lamp replacement. Does not come with a housing but good price and a full 1 year warranty. Last time I had a factory replacment (warranty) sent they were only giving like 30 days.

I'm posting this in a few different threads since they are all pretty old. In the service menu looking at the Overscan alignment, I can only see yellow and cyan completely. Green I can barely see on the sides and not top/bottom and I can't see white or red at all. How do I fix this? It seems I need to shrink my screen some how.

Thanks

Edit: Just wanted to post back so anyone else that runs into this, I have learned you wont see all lines.

I got a notice in the mail yesterday concerning several models of this TV.

There has been a decision in a class-action lawsuit concerning capacitors and lamp problems. You can look up Civil Action No. 3:09-cv-01899 (RNC) or check this link http://settlement.mdea.com/ to see if your model qualifies.

If you have one of these models, this could be good news for you.

For the capacitor problem: (V26 or V30 chassis)
Option 1: You can receive a repair of your television with no charge for parts and labor.
Option 2: You have the opportunity to purchase a 2011 Mitsubishi DLP television at the dealer cost. Mitsubishi will ship the new television to you and will take your previous Mitsubishi television away, as required by the settlement.

For the models with the lamp problem: (V33 or V34 chassis)
If you own or have owned any of the models listed under the V33 or V34 chassis, from Table 1, that has not already received a free new mesh design lamp from Mitsubishi and has experienced a failure of the original lamp between April 1, 2011 and September 30, 2011, you are eligible to receive a free, new mesh design, replacement lamp. This new lamp will be warranted for three (3) months from the date it was shipped to you from Mitsubishi.
