From what I saw and compared to some of my friends in another demo for dealers veiwing... our facts and opinos seem to match.

The screen on the 65831 is awesome. PERIOD.!!
That is to my eye.. had the punch up real look of the plasma....

When you first stated about the 65831 being a sweetspot , many kinds told you why you were perhaps off base as when you look at pricing structure they had valid reasons , where it appers the 65732 is the sweet spot.

Well thanks to you , I started to explore that vein of thinking and YOU WERE SO RIGHT ON!!!

The differences between the 731/732 are almost non existant (same as the actual cost only changes $175 .... My calibrator actually sugest most of those feature be turned off anyway.... The main guts of the set is there from the 731....
Just tweaking automatically is done. tat should make akk of you who got the 731 happy... If you already are watching the TV, you are all ready smilling.
If you paid too much, next time you buy, pay colser attention.
If it is within the 30 days use that weapon to get something back.
bringing back your TV and getting it frm a competor is a strong tool for righting a greedy saleman.

Think for a moment as to where you have them.... I thinnk its refered to as a rock & a hard place.

The real upgrades that do change the set and make it a perfect alternative to the undersized, overpriced shorter lived beautiful plasma screens.... are on the 831..... The Screen.... The Bulb....not sure glass, plastics, beads whatever it LOOKED AWESOME.... I also don't see rainbows
you turn it down and its last longer and you have more to work with to get a perfect picture in ALL lighting conditions.

The front firewire for my HD Cam the SD reader... use to update the firmware... try that on a sammy... $400 service call... hehehe didn't know that huh!
Say maybe when they actually get HDMI 1.3 out you may be able to upgrade

Extra (what I call the woman's remote) remote....all the other extra have been already covered to death!

easily take a thousand off the start of the 65831 and go from there... good luck
The price these sets culd be had fo are a lot lower than people are settleing for.
The 831 can be had for a very reasonable price... which in effect make you 1000%
correct in your original post... not counting the bulb mistypo

I thank you for the path you put me on and I will starta thread as soon as my 65831 gets here...as I was promised this month.. store managers don't usually lie to me about stuff like that.... I AM THEIR WORSE NIGHTMARE WHEN I CATCH THEM IN A LIE! or an honest mistake is worth money to me.... they can lie but it WILL COST THEM PER LIE!!!! Voice activated recorder.... Public posting of conversation of lying BB salesmen, CC manager ect...... rights many wrongs
Speak softly and CARRY A BIG STICK!!! Teddy R

I believe that as retailers we work so hard to get you in the door... advertising, ect... That I want to send you away happy and give you incentives to continue to shop with my store and send all your friends to me also... a domino effect of good service and pricing.

Why would I want to send a customer out to talk against my store and keep 10 potentail customers away... and an unhappy customer will go out of his or her way to do that.

when they leave my places of business , they are telling everyone and dragging in their friends with confidence to buy from you... just my opinon

Teach,

Quick question you might have missed earlier. Does the 65831 with High Contrast screen give that "plasma look"?
Hope this isnt a dumb question but are the 731, 732 & 831 sets replacing the current Diamond Sets?

Neither. There are a lot of things going on here. In my opinion this/these guy"s" are out to discredit the new Mitsubishi line. There is established precedent for this type of type of behavior. Its based upon anger. They want to take everyone for a ride. Don't fall for it. Just my opinion based upon seeing it all before.

THis is the second time today you have made a disparaging remark. Your first post today was deleted. I am not Tenguru. If there is a problem PM me. I am not out to discredit Mits. I am an authorized dealer. I am reporting what I was told. I am getting a 65831 to replace an old Mits I have had for several years. This is a brand new line of Tv's. THere is going to be some discrepencies on when it will finally arive. IMO the sooner the better.

What are the differences between 732 and 831? Looks like there is a approx. $500 difference between the two.

The biggest difference is the high contrast screen and the 180W bulb. The 732 has the 150W bulb.

I currently have a 731 but will swap with the 831 when it is available. Praying the 831's will be here before kickoff off College Football Season .
I agree, sure hope they are out so I can get it before the college and pro football seasons start. I sent an email to Mitsubishi for an update on when they will be shipped and in stores and got no reply. I can't wait to get my 831!!!

Free,

Who did you buy from and has this been confirmed with Mits? I ask because forum member teachsac is a Mits dealer and he doesn't know when they will arrive. In contrast tenguru claims his 831 will arrive between the 20th-25th. This was straight from a Mits rep at a private showing. Just yeaterday I was in Gramaphone a very high end dealer outside Baltimore and the sales manager said the 831's would not be available until mid September!

This is very frustrating. I wish Muts would just tell their dealers when to expect the sets. If I know for sure it's not coming til xxx date I can deal with it. This constant flip-flopping is driving me nuts.

I hear ya John. I've got 4 on order. 1 for me , 2 special orders, and hopefully one for the floor.

I bought from a local dealer/installer, and this is what he e-mailed me.

"The WD65831 will be available in a couple of weeks and usually takes
about 3-5 business days to arrive to our warehouse."

That was on August 7th
I am e-mailing him back to see if I can confirm.

The ship date from Mits is August 25 for the 732 and September 15 for the 831. Allow 3-5 after that for the displays to arrive locally.

The 731 and 732 150w light bulbs are made in Germany and sell directly from Mits for $249.00. This is reasonable. From direct experience I'd expect them to last 2000-3000 hours maximum.

Wow. If this is true that's another month for the 831. Where did you get these dates from?
I have emailed Mits customer service 3 times from their web site asking about delivery or shipping dates and they dont even respond. I hope we dont have to wait until the middle of september.

As good as the unreleased 732 and 831 may be it is always good to explore ones options. That is JVC is releasing their much anticipated LCOS/DILA 97 series this week. Rather than posting with nothing much to say, I'm going to go to find the JVC to audition. Nothing to loose. Also the new Toshiba 42-47" flat panels are very nice with a high WOW factor.

Consumer confidence from Toms Hardware:
"But the world has changed even since March. The continually skyrocketing price of crude oil (actually all energy) has dragged general inflation higher in North America, precipitating a decline in household disposable income. A re-emergence of terrorist threats has dampened general consumer confidence."

This reinforces that sales have been slow in big box stores lately. Not many consumers can afford or want to spend $4K right now, given the circumstances. So play hardball and get a good price perhaps during the Labor Day weekend.

Just a little longer... 13-16 days and the 831 will show up before the 732...
I can't say much more about screen without violating non-disclosure agreement... it is not clip on or detatchable.....

Tell us please that this is not a Qualia Mirror Type reflective Screen? Was it non-reflective!

Westa,

Good to see you in the Mits discussions. Have you had the chance to see the 65731? If so I would like to hear your thoughts.

As far as the screen on the 831 I have had three dealers who saw the 65831 at the line show say it was non reflective, had no SSE and the pq was very "plasma like".

I think I saw may have been a 731 at BB last week (they told me it was new) but I didn't really pay attention as in our area they've always looked so dim/dull and I'm not trashing the TV just reporting the poor display settings locally for 2 years. This 65" was adjacent to a Samsung 6187 and this was the first Mits I'd seen that wasn't dull and there were too older Mits along side and as usual they were dull as could be. This panel looked much better than others in the past and 65" was nice size. It's not fair for me to make a better than on one viewing and realizing in-store viewing is totally different from what you'll experience in your home.

The Samsung was still brighter but of course neither were calibrated and they were splitting about 40+ TV's the run of the mill HD that artifacts and makes noise on most everything in the store unlike the Blu-Ray I saw on a Samsung at CC and of course the well known SXRD and it's HD BOX Feed of Hawaii. Mits needs to do similar - get an HD DVD or BD or it's own 1080P to make their panel shine.

I obviously did not see this new 831 as the screen change would be easily noticed if it's as good as reported. This is one of those situations that you want to see what this Mits can do but historically in my area they simply do not how to present this baby for over two years and I've emailed them at corporate and no response. Would be nice to see an owners thread go more than a week before a _hitload of issues aren't presented - the Qualia is the only one I recall not seeing it occur. Look forward to genuine owner in-home feedback from owners that know what they're doing and have a vested interest in making it look it's best.

What do you guys think, my tv vendor called today and said he didnt think they would have a n 831 on display but if I wanted to order one he could do that and then went on this talk about why would I want to buy a DLP when it is much less of a tv and I should by the sony LCD talking about the a2000 and how everyone in his store buys LCD and that LCD is over 75% of the market and that it is just plain inferior to the LCD. He was really pushing the Sonya2000 and its lcd.

So what do you guys think of the difference between LCD & DLP? Thanks for your comments sionce I am a beginner at this and dont want to make a 3,000-4,000 dollar mistake.

What the heck, lets not highjack an owners (or wannabe owners) thread into an LCD vs DLP thread, eh?
