AT&T U-verse HDTV - Page 124

I have net and phone with uverse, tv with dtv! I am paying too much for what I watch. Any idea if I ask uverse to give me a combined package what is the best I am expecting? Two tv, dvr, hd.
Will I be under contract try? And if they charge installation. I can disconnect dtv and if not happy with uverse go as new customer. When is the newest dtv receiver expected? Pls advise me with best strategic move.

Thanks

So after the promo period, you're basically paying what you're paying now. If you're set on trying U-verse, I'd just suspend DirecTV and give U-verse a shot. That way you don't have to deal with sending back your DVRs to DirecTV, unless you decide to keep U-verse.
Sorry, but I apologize in advance for nitpicking.
To avoid confusion, the standard abbreviation for all digital television is DTV. The standard abbreviation for DirecTV is D*. This is and old convention that harkens back to the days when DISH was EchoStar or abbreviated as E*. DISH Network is still referred to as E* and DirecTV as D*.

Indeed! I might be able to get discount as existing or cancel and before 30 days, run out get directv again.

I don't care about returning equipment. I have HDR21 and 24 and I want both 24s though.

Sounds like you did pretty well for yourself. I see no reason why you shouldn't stick with DirecTV, unless you're really just itching to try something else.

I get DTV for free forever, and I don't have a contract.

Oh, you meant D*.

Are you sure about that? I have one DVR, U200 without premiums, and no Internet, and I pay the same price. Also, U-verse doesn't allow multiple DVR boxes, so I know that part is incorrect.

All my boxes on all 3 sets are identical. 2 of the use HDMI and one using component. Not sure if all of them are DVR but per Uverse I can access my dvr with any TV in the room. So maybe there is just one DVR and 2 other boxes. I assumed all 3 were DVR boxes but I know when I go to storage I am able to record 110 hours of HD content.

That certainly sounds like three DVRs pooled together. I had no idea this was possible.

You have 1 DVR and 2 STBs.

It's not possible or even necessary. The U-verse DVR is designed to cover the entire home/business.

So one DVR is able to record 110 hours of HD TV? I wasnt sure myself but that seemed like an awful lot of storage for one device. My comcast did only like 40 hours so I assumed it was 3 DVR boxes linked.

It sounds like you might have the 500GB DVR, which is rated for up to 180 hours of HD or 510 hours of SD programming.

The newer Comcast Moto 3400m DVR's used for their AnyRoom DVR have 500GB hard drives, but since it is mpeg-2 video, it will store only about half of what the U-verse 500GB DVR can using mpeg-4. Comcast claims their 500GB DVR's will store 80 hours of HD programming.

The Comcast AnyRoom DVR is also much less robust than U-verse. There is no ability to initiate a recording from any of the non-DVR boxes, let alone pause or rewind live TV. Seriously missing these features since the switch back to Comcast. I also had to add another DVR to have the ability to record 4 video streams simultaneously. The second DVR is a stand-alone that can't be networked to the AnyRoom DVR so saved programs aren't interchangeable between DVR's.

Help, I'm confused. I just signed up for u-verse 300 package plus internet. Some info first, I have 3 HDTV's (Samsung 58" c8000 3D plasma, two basic panasonic 42 and 32" sets). I was told by AT&T rep they had just installed fiber optic lines to my apt complex although it's still coaxial to the outlets in my unit. Regardless, I'm confused on what is included in the u300 package, specifically as it relates to HD programming.

Does the U300 package include HD channels? what quality? Why is there an option for extra HD tech fee if so? Is the quality different? U450 package includes this obviously plus HBO/Sports. I was advised by the ATT rep to hold of on the U450 packange or adding the tech fee because I may be happy with the picture quality on the U300 package. I'm no videophile but I can certainly tell the difference b/w 480 and 720/1080 especially on the 58" samsung set.

The HD Technology Fee allows you to get the HD versions of channels in your package. Without the HD Technology Fee, you don't get any HD channels.

As for exactly what channels you'll get, just look online and print out the list or stop by a store and get the channel list.

In general terms U300 is all "basic" cable channels plus Showtime and Starz/Encore. You'll need to pay $10 for HD technology fee.
U450 is pretty much *everything*, all movies channels, etc. HD technology fee included so no need to pay the extra $10.

In addition there is a $5 HD Premium package which includes about 10 HD only channels including NFL Red Zone.

So if you want HD then you'll get U200 or U300 plus the $10 HD fee or U450.

why is UVerse the only system that forces you to get Showtime and Starz/Encore.

To get MLB network,Fox Business Network , Fox Movie Channel , ReelzChannel , NBA TV , Planet Green, NASA TV, and more.

NASA TV (FTA and ATT forces you to buy movie channels to get it?)

also sports pack for NHL network and MLB / NBA is not in it?

I agree. My Picture quality is quite up and down at times. Tonight, SNL looked horrid. Just horrid. So pixelated and over compressed. And NBC looks good most times. But to this point, I don't get why U-Verse does that. I would love to watch Reelz Channel, but my family only has U-200. they put so much emphasis on the premiums. for crying out loud, they only have a few Starz Channels in HD. I just don't get it. U-Verse needs to get it's act to together. Also, I thought they were dropping Fox Movie Channel from U-200? We still have it. Weird.

Doesn't bother me since it's similar in price as DirecTV and many other cable companies for their top end "all basic" packages plus you get the movies channels tossed in. Over a dozen free movie channels over what I'd pay DirecTV? What's not to like?

Who knows. DirecTV made you buy a whole new dish and advanced receiver for a long time to get Nasa since it wasn't on one of the main satellites. Oh well.

MLB and NBA channel are available without sports pack in the lower packages. I would think that's a good thing, saves you money unless you really want the NHL network.

DirecTV's situation was totally different. They saved valuable bandwidth by putting a niche channel in a place where there was more bandwidth, but required a non-standard (at the time) dish. It was still available in all packages. U-verse is charging more for a channel that costs them nothing. Ridiculous.
