Here's an example of "subchannels": In our area, the public TV station is channel 25 if you're using an antenna. The subchannels, all of which broadcast completely different material, show up on a digital TV tuner as 25.1, 25.2, 25.3, and 25.4. On the U-Verse box, we get Channel 25 (at Channel 1025) but not any of the subchannels. The same thing is true for the local commercial stations--several odf them have subchannels that you can get with a good digital antenna, but none of them are available via U-Verse.
