Vizio GV42L & L42 42" LCDs - Page 3

nnarum23,

Your pics are amazing! What are your picture settings? While we're waiting for someone to give use some Digital Video Essential settings, yours look pretty good.

I don't know if this is standard for other HDTVs, but I just realized that the GV42 saves picture settings for each individual mode (AV1, AV2, Composite 1, etc. all have different settings).

^Thanks!
BTW its the L42 version.
I'm using an HDMI cable I purchased real cheap at monoprice's website also for my settings I bumped my contrast up to 95 and thats about all I've changed.

The only thing I hate is when I'm watching a baseball game on ESPNHD that it isn't quite as clear as the movie HD channels. Is it because they run 1080i and ESPN runs 720p? Still pretty good though.

PS why can't we post links?

You need more posts to be able to post links.

Wow thos pics look awesome. Do you have any of a game console like the X360 dashboard??
Day 2 of owning the L42 and the whole family really notices that the picture is truly a lot better then the old 37 I returned. Vizio did a good job of improving the picture over the older models. A step in the right direction.

Has anyone seen both the GV42L and L42 models? All specs on the website indicate that it's the same panel, but I wonder if there are differences in panel quality, possibly effecting the murky black issue. The GV42L has more controls, but is one a better panel?

nnarum23, you're sure that's the L42? The bezel makes it look like the P42 (plasma). According to the Vizio site the L42 looks the same as the GV42L except that the GV42L's speakers can be removed.

Yeah, L42. I actually returned a plasma because it was running extremely hot. I wanted an LCD because of the less power usage which would = less heat. I can get more pics when I get home. I am very pleased with it.

With only one antenna input, how do you view both SD Cable and OTA HD channels? Do you have to use a splitter or switch?

I think the L42 picture on the Vizio site is wrong.
For thos who have had the P42 plasma and the L42 LCD how does the PQ compare??

In Costco today I observed that the sky scenes were darker and gray-like in between the Sony 40" and Sharp 45". How does it look at home? Did you have to make any adjusts?

BTW: In Costco, the rep says they do not adjust defaults, but while he scrolled thru some settings I saw the screen mode (color temperature) as "cool"? I'd assume that wouldn't be a default. Was it defaulted on your?

it could be the default because the average uniformed joe tends to like "bluer" whites. but besides that, just because the rep says they don't adjust, doesn't mean that a customer hasn't adjusted it. or that an employee screwing around hasn't adjusted it. or that it's not a return that somebody adjusted at home. etc. etc. And that's a big part of why in-store comparos suck. a lot.

Maybe, if you can fold your seats down or maybe somehow take a row out. I used a truck .

The blacks are nice, take a peek at my 360 gamertag pic. Or maybe the AVP pic. I only changed the contrast to 95 so it's at custom for the Picture Mode. "Cool" is what I have mine on, there is also Normal and Warm.

Hopefully that helps you guys out. PS, Blu Ray is the truth! I checked it out today at Bestbuy. I'm def selling my 360 when the PS3 releases.

Here's another pic, Spongebob lol. It's very vivid in HD.

I've been comparing the VIZIO "Gallevia" GV42L @ Costco vs. the Syntax "Olevia" LT42HVi @ CompUSA and I'm leaning towards the Vizio unit. I am planning to use the monitor primarily for my laptop and to hookup Direct TV for the PIP.

Has anyone hooked up their computer/laptop yet and can tell me about the clarity? Also, I noticed in the manual (online) that there is 3 sizes available for the PIP. Can somone post pix of the 3 screen sizes of the PIP? I'm ready to pull the trigger (very itchy finger) but I want to make sure this unit is the way to go.

Put down last row seats, no any problem for 42" with box for minivan.

how much difference does 1080p make besides usage for computers?

I'm choosing between the Sceptre 42'' 1080p lcd and this vizio one.

Price difference is about $200 bucks + 80 shipping for the Sceptre.

My mac powerbook resolution doesn't even goto 1080p.

any advice?

FYI, The Vizio GV42L is going on sale within the next two weeks. This was confirmed by my brother who works at Costco. Today they were instructed to pull them from the floor and hold them until next Monday. No word on how much the coupon will be.
didn't this tv just come out?
So wait-- this means that at the moment you can't get the GV42L at Costco? And if I JUST bought this set at Costco, [EDIT]

My understanding is that Costco makes you bring the TV back to the store in order for you to re-buy it. Maybe you could find a nicer manager who wouldn't make you do that.

I called a couple of Costcos and confirmed that they weren't on sale there anymore.

Any more details on the upcoming coupon? Are we talking two Benjamins savings? When will the GV42L be back in stores?

Any more reviews of the TV? Has anyone calibrated it yet with a DVD?
If you bring back the reciept within 30 days of purchase they will do a price adjustment at Costco. I did this before. After that 30 days you have to bring back the TV. [EDIT]

i purchased the GV42L on Saturday after returning my 42 inch visio plasma which I purchased in March. The plasma was nice but it had some lip sync problems. The audio did not match the video on some HD channels. It was rather annoying. I'll be heading over to Costco next week for the price adjustment on the GV42L. I have not calibrated mine yet but the picture was decent out of the box.
I'm going to pick up the GV42L tomorrow afternoon.

two local costco's i called had 15 and 20 in stock

the person with the brother at costco: are you hearing that costco will pull these from the floor soon?
