I have the 55a2000. Wife just called me at work and says the tv will not come on. A red light flashes 4 times when she tries to turn it on? What does this mean ??

This is explanation of 4 flashes.

thanks. Hopefully the connection just came loose. Anyone know if it is pretty simple to put a new one in ?

So I was watching tv this morning and it just turns itself off out of nowhere. I look down and notice the Lamp light is flashing. I know this means I need to get a new lamp but I thought there was supposed to be a warning message. Has anyone else had there lamp just go out with no warning? I hadn't really noticed a great decrease in brightness so this came as a complete surprise.

It does not necessarily mean that the lamp needs to be replaced. Here are the codes (number is the number of flashes of indicator lamp):

Quote:

  • 2 : Temp over When the inside temperature sensed with IC3150, IC3200 and IC2000 mounted on S1 board, S2 board and C board respectively exceed the threshold, DEM (Display Engine u-com) detects it and makes turn off the lamp.
  • 3 : Lamp cover When the lamp cover is opened or harness from T board is off, DEM detects it and makes turn off the lamp
  • 4 : FAN error When any FAN is stopping or harness is not connected correctly, DEM detects it and makes turn off the lamp
  • 5 : Lamp Driver When the ballast is not working with high voltage, DEM detects it and makes turn off the lamp
  • 6 : Power error When the voltage converted on 5V regulated from 11V is low, TVM (TV u-com) detects it and makes turn off the lamp.
  • 7 : Audio When DC is appeared by audio amp failure at speaker line, DEM detects it and makes turn off the lamp.
  • 8 : Power-OVP When the output voltage from 7V is abnormally high, TVM detects it and makes turn off the lamp.
  • 9 : Device error When the temperature sensor and bus decoder ICs do not return ACK on IIC bus to DEM, DEM detects it and makes turn off the lamp.

As you can see, most all call for service.

well I some how fixed my TV. I pulled the back off and inspected the one fan in the middle that you can see with the back on. Then I had to take 4 more screws to pull out the fan that is right behind the light bulb door. I pulled the fan out a little bit and turned on the tv and it worked. Maybe it was a pinched wire or maybe I just got lucky, not sure. But I did see quite a bit of dust inside the tv.

Dave, the reason I thought it was a bad lamp is because the Lamp indicator light is continusly flashing. I was waiting for it to stop so that I could figure out what the problem was but it kept flashing forever, I think I quit counting at like 30. When I turn my tv on the green light flashes for a while (51 times is what I counted) and then it stops and the red light starts flashing in the Lamp indicator and it never stops or pauses to show that it is only flashing a certain amount of time. It is just a consistant flash for as long as I leave the tv on. Any idea what that is?

Yes, if the indicator light is continuously flashing red (as opposed to green) it is likely the lamp. I assume that there is no picture too.

Correct I have no picture just a black screen. If it wasn't for the light flashing you wouldn't even know that the tv was turned on.

Well, I spoke with Raz over at Circuit City and it didn't get me anywhere. They're refusing to do anything about it because the tech is telling them there is nothing wrong with my television. They're basically telling me if I can find another tech to come take a look at it and dispute the previous tech's findings (which I'll have to pay out of my own pocket), maybe then they can do something about it (with the keyword being maybe). My biggest problem is I live out in the middle of nowhere and there is no other company around that can check out my television.

I asked about sending my pictures in but she said there is nobody I could send them to that she knows of. So I am pretty much done and will probably take someone to small claims court. I just need to figure out who I need to take to court...Circuit city or the tech.
Todd, the only other option you have is to call the Executive Corporate office. They are the only people that can override and make the tech come out again. chief_executive@circuitcity.com (can't find the number). Send your photos etc to this address and tell the complete issue. Let them know that your only remaining option if they do not come out again is to take them to court. Ask for the Legal Department contact information. Provide all of your contact information.

That should light a fire under their ass

Next Steps -

-File a complaint with the Better Business Bureau
www.bbb.org

-File a complaint with your credit card company

-File a complaint with your state's Attorney General's office
http://www.naag.org/ag/full_ag_table.php

-File a complaint with Virginia's Attorney General's office. This is where Circuit City's corporate office is located.
www.oag.state.va.us

-If Circuit City still does nothing, file charges in Small Claims Court.

Thanks for all of the info Keith. I'll start with the Executive Corporate Office and go from there. I'm currently typing a nice letter to their CEO and will probably mail it to him certified mail, along with photos of my set. I'm determined to follow this thing through until the bitter end.

good luck Todd, really sorry to hear about your situation and hope that it gets resolved soon.

keep us posted, I'm interested in seeing what happens.

I would think the firm that the repair tech worked for. He did a repair that resulted in problems. So they failed to properly repair the set. On the other hand, who "owns" the service contract tht you purchased (what company's name is on it)? They failed to have the set properly repaired, and refuse to "make good". Don't know if in your state if you can take both parties to court on one complaint.

Hi All,

Yesterday, I noticed a distinct change in the brightness of my picture on my KDS-A2000. It's as if the brightness dropped by about 20%. I was wondering if this has happened to anyone else or if it's just a sign that the bulb is at the end of its life. Speaking of which, are there any reliable online retailers anyone has dealt with that has the XL5200 for a reasonable price? And finally, my warranty was up last month but just prior to that, I had the horrible green haze problem and Sony sent a tech who changed the optical block. The problem is that I am beginning to see the signs of the same problem beginning already. Has anyone had this re-occur? I am starting to regret getting this set with all of the headaches getting a Sony tech to change the first one
post #10758 of 14227
If I am not mistaken I believe when new parts such as an optical block are installed there is a warranty on that part. 90+ days or something like that, I could be way off....
Hi again,

Here is just a few updates on my yellow stain, blue blacks, and fan issues.

Purchased KDS-60A2000 Feb. 4 2006 CC with ext. 5 yr. warranty.
1. Called in to CC for tech to come to house for yellow blob/stain and fan issues.
2. Tech tells me that the TV is great, and that he cannot see the yellow at all and does not hear the roaring fans that I am talking about.
3. I was ticked and he practically walked out telling me that this is a great tv.
4. Called a local service center about getting TV fixed on Dec. 12 2007. They ordered an OB and it was lost in mail so had to wait an extra week.
5. They installed the OB, and immediately noticed the FAN issues and that a few of them on the main board were failing.
6. They ordered the board with fans/TV inputs and had it overnighted.
7. Received TV next day with VERY Blue blacks (seen in pictures below) but fan issues are fixed.

http://img153.imageshack.us/img153/2562/img0197uf1.jpg
http://img253.imageshack.us/img253/848/img0204fg7.jpg

8. On the 24th, the service company Paul's TV came back out to pick up the TV.
9. I guess that another OB is on order now and TV should be returned on Thursday this week.

Overall, I am very unhappy with the way that Sony has built their TV's. The Circuit City support is really horrible when setting up appointments and the tech's rarely do anything unless I speak with Charlie Rex. Paul's TV seems to have a good shop and the people there are very friendly. I am just getting of tired of TV repairs , because I had an older Sony 55" CRT Rear and was replaced by circuit city with the KDS A2000 and I had to pay an additional Grand.

Sorry for posting about my issues so much, but would at least one user on these boards look at those pictures and acknowledge what I am talking about.

Does anyone know if my warranty will be extended now that the most recent repair is so close to my 1 year purchase date?

Thanks,
Zach

Zach, my blacks look as bad as yours. That set is definitely not right.

Keith, thanks for the e-mail address to the Chief Executive office. I e-mailed them today and let them know how dissatisfied I was. In no uncertain terms I told them if they didn't fix the problem that I needed contact information for their legal department so that I could move forward with taking them to small claims court. Someone got back with me today and things are looking positive. My fingers are crossed that they will finally either repair or replace my set.

That is awesome news Todd! Good luck on the repair/replacement.

I called my repair shop today since it has been 2 weeks now and no word from them, the lady said she would have John who had been working on my case call me tomorrow. She did say he was pressing the Techs to pay for it as it was DOA for them and pay them to do it , apparently Sony sent a bad OB and they want the repair shop to just come out and work on it for free. Sony Extended Warranty Service DID tell me the same though that the shop had to do it again since it was within 30 days. Kinda sucks for them IMO since the part was bad and I dunno if it soo much was the repair tech that did anything wrong. I can now SEE how some people are kinda getting screwed on these deals at least if people make claims within 30 days of repair, Sony wants to PAWN it off on the shop and the SHOP wants Sony to pay

Hopefully the guy calls tomorrow with good news, the OB should have been ordered and replaced by now IMO

I'm glad to hear Circuit City is cooperating now, I get my OB replaced tomorrow...finally. I have been working on getting this fixed for almost a month now. I just hope I don't get a broken OB as a replacement, it seems that a good amount of people are. Here's to hoping. Good luck.

Haloplaya, the blacks on my TV were almost that bad until after I went into the service menu to dim the lamp a little. It's better now, but not nearly as dark as I would still like. This might just be a limitation of the projector though. Also try changing the iris settings to minimum to see if this helps.

This is the 3rd Ob that has been replaced on my set butb still on the grey background i can see a green oval band, the picture quality this time is really better than before but that green band still bothers me, is this a different problem or I have to fight for a replacement

Maybe it's not the OB?

How were you able to "dim the lamp" in the service menu? Can you tell us where this is done? Thanks.
Disto, see this thread on advice on changing the iris settings in the service menu.

http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=910297

To get into the actual menu, do a search here for a2000 service menu. I know the instructions have been posted in a few different places.
