Check it carefully on light gray screen or turn off the color. The problem can be subtle.

well, Sony only has the 52xbr9 for 1200. Won't budge on price. Guess I'll be keep on replacing these optical blocks.

And wrap it in cling film while it's on. Hopefully it will overheat and short out.

Follow up to my wonderful SXRD and Sony experience. Third OB failed. Called the place I bought it from and who handles the warranty. Supposedly after the 3rd attempt to fix and there's a problem they replace the set. Called them Monday and got a return call today that they will be out next Tuesday to look at the set and see if there is, in fact, something wrong with the set. Mine looks like Goatse's set. Bright pink in the bottom right side, bright pink across the top, and dog piss yellow across pretty much the rest of it. After the last attempt and OB replacement, the picture is now all soft and fuzzy. No matter how I attempt to adjust the settings, it doesn't help. Used the S&V calibration disc (I know, old but I gave it a shot). Didn't help. Then used the calibration disc that came with my Oppo BD player. No difference either. Seems that adjusting one thing brings out another monster along the way. Just wish this damn thing would die already.

Just had my OB replaced to address the bluish black issue...now I have black blacks with green stains (thanks Sony!).

I think I'm double screwed as my other tv is the 60XBR2.

Hey Goatse, did they even offer you the 65" LCD as an option?

Seriously, would you really want another Sony? I'd rather punch myself in the nuts before buying another tv they have.

Been reading here about the Samsung b750. Went and looked at it over the weekend and it seems to be a pretty decent set. Can be any worse than what I have, can it?

I finally got around to calling the two TV repair shops that Sony gave me for warranty repairs on my OB.

Both are like 100 miles away. WTF Sony!

Debating calling them back or just going to buy another TV. Although having it fixed and trying to sell it for a bargain price would still happen. I wouldn't lie to any potential buyer, but would make them a good deal. Heck, maybe just try to sell it broken even and let someone else worry about it.

Off to research a different TV.....and certainly not a SONY!

guy, ya gotta at lease make sony swap out the ob. sony needs to suffer the full consequences of building and marketing these defective sets.

don't let them off the hook. that is just what they are hoping most owners do

Turn on a grey screen and I guarantee you see green and pink anomalies.

KDS3000
Replacement OBs from Sony now show green tinge and get worse w/ time.
Going for number 8, I know.
The girl reading the notes at Service Net says the last company who tried to repair it (Elwin TV) said the set was unrepairable and refused to do any more work on it.
The company SN originally used, Suzor, has already replaced 2 OBs and a video board in 2008 and will replace another along with other undisclosed parts next week.
I wonder how many they will replace before giving up? Their longest lasting OB was 7 months, the shortest 1 month. I consider it a challenge at this point.
How many OBs can I replace before the end of warranty in 2011!!!!! 17 or 18 if I work quick.

This is great. I admire this. I have had quite a few replaced as well. They will just keep doing it because its Sony and they are dumb. They could have saved themselves money buy just giving you a full refund. I would have done the same but just cant afford to keep taking off of work to get the repairs done. Good luck.

A break in the case. They dont want to repair the set and have sent it to claims. A final determination will be made within 24 hours...more to follow.

I tried to get Sony to make me an offer on a new set but they said no. They would only give me another optical block replacement. I have had one OB replaced so this would be the second one. Who do I talk to at Sony in order to get them to make me an offer on a new set? I tried to ask for someone higher up but she said that there was no one above her. Yeah sure. Thanks for any help.

Unless they've replaced several OB they won't offer you a discount on a new set. Just a few days ago they did make an offer on my set but only gave me discount on a 52" which is not an acceptable size. I rejected it immediately. They then said that my file would be reviewed by tech department to see if they will replace the ob again..wtf?!?

So it sounds like their position is take the 52" or nothing...

Replace OBs until they cry "uncle". Start now!

They won't for now. My request for replacement OB #3 is under review by management since I rejected their offer for a 52" set.

I'm actually looking into just getting a new set on my dime even though I have EW through BB and the Sony offer. I can't keep disappearing from work so they can play musical optical blocks. I just don't know what I will do with a 52" set, I need at least a 65"!!!!

Thanks iove and fpconvert for your input. I may go ahead and get another OB replaced.

Not true. Sony Canada made no attempt to repair my 60A2000, their first response on receipt of my claim was to offer a 55v5100 for $600 (plus tax) delivered to my door.

Maybe it's because it's Sony Canada?
Perhaps it is the extended warranty some people still have - Sony burning up the warranty companies money before theirs?

Not too happy about the smaller screen size but the 120hz (24 fps for bluray ) and 4 hdmi inputs helps. And they are leaving the 60A for me, will send the ob to Tri State once I get it out......after Christmas most likely.

Sony told me they nolonger had 55inch in the warehouse and not stocking anymore since new models are coming in couple months. I'd never pay 1200dollars for a 52inch, rather get a plasma. XBR tvs are over priced for what you get, i don't need any of the internet features.

If you want the 52" you should give them a call back. My offer was less than $600+ tax IIRC.

thats was probably the v5100. They could only offer me the xbr9.

for those of us who may be getting a buyout offer, can anyone explain the
differences in the various sony models being offered to sxrd owners.

from what i can see, sony has a "v" line of sets, a "z" line of sets, and the
xbr line of sets.

presumably sony still makes the xbr their top of the line sets, but who knows
anymore.

anyone knowledgeable about the advantages and disadvantages of each model
and which model sxrd owners stuck with defective sets should be trying to get? from

I feel like an idiot, but I've just spent 20 mins trying to find recommendations for a vendor for a new lamp for a 50A2000, but so far, I'm coming up with people talking about it, but not recommending WHERE to get them.

Any recommendations, else I am at the mercy of google search ads.

This is a much covered subject and you don't usually have to look more than a page back in any of the many SXRD threads fro info. Anyway, there are numerous places and numerous prices, especially depending on whether you want just the bulb and if its Osram or Philips. I just bought a Philips with housing (new) from River Valley Electronics through eBay for $130. They have the Osram for a bit less and bulbs only for even less.

They never offered me the xbr9! lol! Sony must make random offers to different people.

Repair man left today and, as I guessed, a new OB is needed. After the last one (the third) I've still pink, blue and dog piss yellow color blobs across the screen. And, as an added bonus just for being a numpty and buying another Sony even though I should have known better, the convergence is knackered beyond specs. The repair man said I should get a call tomorrow from his supervisor and I'll be informed as to what is going to happen at this point (after the third attempted repair, supposedly I get to do the no lemon thingy). Should be interesting conversation tomorrow. Just hope it's over with and I can get rid of this thing. Sony should be ashamed of themselves.
My warranty company answer to a non repairable tv should arrive by friday. The lemon clause says they can replace the set with something of "like grade (sony does not make a 60" lcd) or quality"(hope like hell it's not the same quality as this POS).
They can also claim the unavailability of functional parts to repair and reimburse to the full retail price paid. That's what I would prefer but it is their option.
