The Official Sony 2006 KDS-(XX)A2000 [NO PRICE TALK] SXRD Owner's Thread - Page 423

Just sent my serial number sticker to Sony today and will be receiving a NEW KDL-60EX500 w/ 1 year warranty for $275+tax. Cant wait!

Now I gotta find a new stand since my current stand is the one made for the 60a2000 and would look horrid being used for any other TV. Also my a2000 doesn't look all that bad after the OB replacement. Went from an all over green hue to a localized hue in the bottom left corner. I'm sure it will spread, but I hope not since I'm gonna move that TV to another room in my house.

All in all im happy that Sony is offering the buy out option. I probably would have never dealt with going to court or anything, so the TV would have just went to the junk yard and I would be out the money I paid for the TV plus another 2k for a new 60ish inch TV. Not saying I should have to pay anything and I wish they could have just fixed my a2000 correctly (or never had the problem in the first place), but overall the process has been painless and will be nice to have a new TV to play with for 300 bucks.

Sarah on Facebook was easy to deal with and made the process simple with no headaches.

Good luck everybody with your fight/replacements!

That's great mastamoon, hope you enjoy the new set

Update:

Sarah called the shop, (they're local) and they sent a pair of techs out today, this time I was home, but as soon as they walked in they saw the problems with the OB. They told me to contact Sarah again to let here know and took a picture.

I got an offer for a free EX500 60". Just mailed my paperwork via fedex with a tracking number so I had proof of delivery. Will see if sony does what it says. I'm not to excited as all I have been getting is promises on this TV. Will see...

Is your free 60EX5 a refurb w/ 6 month warranty?... They also offered me that deal but being a refurb with an even smaller warranty and being a Sony.. I had to pass. Though I did try and find an extended warranty for it but Sony wouldn't give me a replacement value on the tv so I couldn't. Think it might be smart to get an extended warranty on the new one though. Haven't read of too many issues yet with the 60EX5 but didn't have issues with my a2000 until 4 years later.

Excuse me if this has been covered before, and also for this not really pertaining to the a2000, but rather the people who have gotten replacement units for no cost.

Quick background is I received a NEW 60ex500 for NO COST to replace my 60a2000, Sarah also specified a 6 month warranty on the new unit.

HAS anyone been able to obtain an extended warranty on the replacement units, either through sony or a 3rd party company like squaretrade? The problem being I don't have a purchase price, or any supporting invoice.

Considering the msrp of the unit, and the short warranty period I'm worried what may happen a year or two down the road, and considering the no cost price of my new ex500, I would definitely be willing to spring for an extended warranty. Which I feel I should be able to purchase whether I paid for this tv or not.

Thx

Quick question to those who have accepted a replacement: did any of you have the A2000 picked up upon delivery of the replacement? Or were you allowed to keep the A2000?
They didn't want mine back, or anyone else's from all I've read.

For those of you getting your A2000's repaired / replaced...do you need to have a receipt, or is possession of the TV sufficient...there is no way I'll be able to find my paper work...

When I originally filed the claim for the first OB replacement I did reference the original receipt for the purchase date/place, and exact price. I could have probably pushed through if I didn't have the receipt but I didn't have to try.

Then for replacement, they require you to #1 remove the serial number sticker off the back of the TV. #2 take a picture of the problem WITH a piece of paper which has the claim number on it (attached to the screen seemed the most logical), so both the irregularity and the claim number are visible in the pic. Then you have to snail mail them the picture and the original serial number sticker. I also included the replacement email confirmation which had my address, ect.

Good luck if you need any more help just post up. Remember, be polite until you are getting shafted hard, only then be firm, but still polite. As with any claim, You have about 30 seconds to basically make them your friend, make them want to help you. I'm a firm believer that with CS agents, you'll catch far more flies with honey, and I've fine tuned my CS rhetoric through plenty of failures so if you need any more advice just ask.

Good luck.

Wow, a new 60EX5 for free.. I couldnt get them to budge on the price of the new unit but I would still be cautious about only getting a 6 month warranty with any TV.

I contacted squaretrade when this all started and was told they would offer a warranty on any TV, as long as you could get a replacement cost. With the refurb, Sarah would not tell me nor give me an invoice or anything that would have the replacement price of the refurb unit, so that pretty much meant no aftermarket warranty. Squaretrade said if I get the new TV, you can just take the MSRP off the Sony site and that would be sufficient enough to purchase a warranty with them. Thats why I ended up paying for a new 60EX5 instead of a refurb, JIC I wanted to buy an extended warranty. Still thinking that through.

Thanks for the reply, its reassuring. I have an email into squaretrade so hopefully I'll get the same result you did as far as using the msrp. I was thinking the msrp is the way to go but don't want to be left out to dry if I do end up having to use their warranty, then be denied if I can't come up with proof of purchase.

I had to explain 3 or 4 times the situation at hand and the guy who I spoke with via email said he finally talked with his supervisor or boss and finally understood that basically I was getting the TV as a buyout. Please let me/us know what your results are with squaretrade.

yes
no cost

90 days is a little short but you might be able to extend via a third party

Thanks., I had to do a bit of research because I havent seen a z5100 offered. So I focused on the ex500/700.

It being free seals the deal for me. I was planning on upgrading this year or the next. So it should hold me over that long.

I wish I had the original OB back in the a2000, it might have been worth something then. Now, theres to much to disclose to sell it.

Spoke with Sarah Kepler at Sony this morning; they were NOT supposed to pick the A2000 up upon delivery of the KDL-52Z51000. Glad to have gotten that cleared up.

I accepted the same deal (I have a 6 month warranty) for the KDL-52Z5100. Just arrived today; still getting it set up but looks very nice so far.

SXRD Warranty Extension Update

According to the support pages for the SXRD models, Sony has now extended the warranties of the Q006, XBR2, and A2000 models through August, and the A2020 models through December. These are the same dates in the pending class action settlement. Presumably, they did this because, due to timing issues, the settlement cannot be finalized (if the judge decides that way) until after the current expirations had been reached, and (in the case of the Q006, XBR2, and A2000 models) after the additional 2 months of coverage were already gone. The A3000 expiration date in June of 2011 was not altered.

Squaretrade obliged my request after a follow up email to them to clarify. I wanted to thank you for your info because I specifically detailed that is was a "buyout" as you stated, so i think I cut through some red tape.

The guy wrote that I could use the replacement date as my purchase date, and the original purchase price as the value. So my original 60a2000 was $2090 after talking circuit city off their high horse. Squaretrade quoted me $219 for a 3 year and $329 for a 4 year warranty, and I have 90 days after the purchase date (replacement date, which was 6-3 I believe) to obtain the warranty. I'm not sure if the extra year is worth another $110, still deciding what I want to do.

Again thanks for your info mastamoon, like I said the specific term "buyout" helped a lot.

I've got my A2000 scheduled to have the OB changed out on Monday evening. The guy coming out told me that he replaces 2-4 Sony OB's a week!
I think my replacement OB is going out again. Lower left hand corner looks funny.

How long have you had your replacement OB?
Maybe 2 weeks.
Well... the Geek Squad tech replaced the OB in my 50A2000 today. The refurbished OB that he used provided an improvement for the "yellow stain" issue that had recently started happening.

However, the replacement OB has some problems of its' own, not the least of which are inconsistent gray field reproduction. The 10% step full-field patterns that I used demonstrated a mottled gray field with subtle color variations across the entire field. Most concerning to me was a donut shaped color variation that involved the entire screen.

The Geek Squad tech was very knowledgeable and professional. After we both viewed the problems with the gray field reproduction, he said that he would be emailing his field supervisior to update her on what has happened with my A2000. He gave me her number and told me to contact her Monday.

He explained that most likely I will be given a choice of probably 3 different comparable 50" TVs to choose as a replacement.

I'll update once I know what is going to happen next.

Had my OB replaced this Friday, it lasted one day without problems... yesterday it started showing slight green haze in the lower right and upper left corners. Tested with color bars and an all white screen. Honestly so frustrated words can't express.

They rebuild the optical blocks just like Sony does.

Who among us had their OB rebuilt by Tri-State Module? I'd like to get many testimonials before going down this road. And I do hope they're not the guys currently refurbishing OB for Sony.

I got four totally crappy offers from Sony today. Gonna try and get something better, if not I'm just gonna get something of taken value and give it as a gift; then go out and buy a 75" Laservue.

Just got off the phone with Sony support after being referred there by Adam an associate of Sarah on Facebook. They offered me a tradeout of a refurbished KDL60EX500 with a 90 day warranty for my ailing 60A2000 which has a now failing 2nd OB, ie. yellow stain, for free. I then asked about a new 60EX500 and Scott quoted me $1710 wi...th a 1 year warranty, and he stated they were in short supply. I really don't get where these guys are coming from on these offers. I mean they are all over the place with their numbers. I don't really feel I should have to invest another $1700 to repalce a $2600 set just over 3 1/2 years old. I'm not quite sure how I feel about a refurb although I wouldn't incur any cost. Decisions decisions, I'm not sure really sure where to go with this. On one hand I'll at least have something that works possibly vs. a set that will have no warranty for the OB after August.

Wow that's a great offer! Adam an associate of Sarah only offered me a 60XE500 as a refurb for free! When I called in and talked to Scott at Sony support he quoted me $1710 for a new 60XE500! These guys are definitely everywhere with these offers to replace the 60A2000's! I'm not sure where to go from here....

I was offered a 40EX500 for free, 46NX700 for 460, 55EX500 for 525, and 52NX800 for $875. Or I suppose I can keep making them swap OBs and keep the local servicer in business...
