The Official Sony 2006 KDS-(XX)A2000 [NO PRICE TALK] SXRD Owner's Thread - Page 464

Hi, New here,

I have a Sony TV Model KF-50WE610. I have blue dots all over the screen. I found this forum and contacted SonyListens.

Here are my offers:

KDL46EX500 for $675.00 + local sales tax
KDL55EX500 for $950.00 + local sales tax

After seeing the good offers that some of you have gotten, Im not too impressed with this offer. The guy on the phone told me that I have 7 days to decide. If after 7 days I have not decided (or declined) to call back and that the prices might drop. Have any of you waited after the 7 days and gotten a better offer?

Don

I have been trying to get my fathers Sony KDS-60A2000 replaced for the last few weeks as it is displaying a horrible case of the Green Haze problem (that I am told is a failing optical block). It's slowly getting worse and worse each week and I want him to be able to at least watch the second half of football season normally.

Each time I have called, I have been speaking to people who honestly have no idea what I am telling that or what they are telling me. Their just reading from a script and are not helpful at all. The offers I have received is either a KDL-55EX500 for $300 shipped or a KDL-60EX720 for $1200 shipped.
First thing is first: my father doesn't have the funds to justify $1200 at the moment (in-between jobs). Most of my friends say "just downgrade to the 55", it's only 5"....but as most of you know on here, going smaller is always noticeable. It's also the principle of it: he has a 60" that is failing (due entirely to faulty Sony engineering), so why should he be forced to pay a premium to get an exact size replacement?

At the very least I want to be able to talk to someone who speaks fluent English and can understand the position I am in but alas, this has not been the case so far. I have even tried emailing Sony directly but apparently they haven't felt like getting back to me even a week later. Does anyone know of a better way to approach this problem? Possibly an email address that will get me good customer service? Not sure what to do at the moment.

Thanks.

^^^Just email your event number and your situation to sonylistens@am.sony.com Im sure they can help.

@donhorn
Your WE610 is an older 720p/1080i set so the replacement offers will be more expensive compared to an A2000 1080p set.

I suggest you contact Sarah Kepler on Facebook. She is on the Sony Team and is very quick in responding once you contact her.

In regards to your argument on paying a "premium" for a TV that is faulty: You have the choice of suing Sony if you don't want to take part in their replacement program. We've all been there in the same boat as you are now. Paying $300 for a new 55" TV is a great deal. As for $1200 for the 60", umm, that's pretty steep but still a deal in it's own right. You can probably get a better offer on that one.
I'm not expecting a brand new set for free by any means, but after reading so many people having great success with getting a replacement TV of correct size for very cheap, I am just frustrated that I have not been offered a similar deal/experience. But I also know this is due to having only dealt with "customer service reps" on the phone. From everything I have been reading on the Defective Sony TV Facebook page, I should get a better offer from one of the Sony Listens reps (such as Sarah).

Hoping to hear back from her or one of her counterparts soon.

My 55HX729 ships out Thursday.

I mailed in my paper work on Friday. (Monday did not count because of the holiday) so they got it today. VERY quick turn around

So out the door $636 which includes taxes and a $80 reinstatement fee for the Lamp I bought to fix the Optical Block issue.

I was offered, after several attempts to get me to buy one of the lower end 55"-ers, the HX820 for $765 + tax. My concern is that the quality of the jpeg I printed and sent in is not very good. Do they ever deny a claim based on that, and what determines if your defective SXRD set qualifies?

My friend gave me a Sony Model # KDS-50A2000 that the bulb had burned out and he replaced the bulb and the picture was dim (normal picture ,but dim), he took the bulb back and got another but the picture is still dim. I went thru the settings and noticed the the brightness control has no effect on the picture. Any ideas as to what could cause this problem, Thanks in advance for any help...

I've never heard of anyone being turned down because of the picture they sent to Sony.

Thanks for the encouragement, Tony. Paperwork sent in; waiting to hear.

lol I can't believe I'm still the only one hear apparently with their A2000 going strong, even though I've been wishing and hoping for it to fail for a while now.

Anyways, anyone been getting HX929 offers? If mine fails anytime soon I would love to get that set.

You're not the only one. I have a 55A2020 that is still going strong with no noticeable problems.
yea, i actually ran it non stop for a couple of weeks hoping for it to finally fail, but no go. No noticeable problems yet, though as I have upgraded sets in other rooms of my house, one thing that has become noticeable is how dated the PQ is. I loved the PQ of sxrd's when they first came out, but compared to a few of the newer lcd's I have in other rooms, the sxrd no longer holds up. and as prices for 60"+ flat panels become more affordable than they were 6 years ago when I bought this set, I just want this to fail already so I can replace it.

I'm going to disagree with you. I also have a Sony 55EX500 LCD TV and still prefer to watch the SXRD. I prefer its more natural picture.

he's right. my sony ex700 replacement does not come close to the pq of my old xbr2.

if you want your sets to fail, change the bulb. that dramatically increases the rate of ob failure.

Yes, my 5 year old SXRD KDS-50A2000 went from great to yellow/green tint. Sent my email to Sony Listens, they replied, and I called. The offer was:

KDL46EX500 $100 plus sales tax
KDL55EX500 $200 plus local sales tax

I defered in order to do my homework. Either offer is a great price, but..... this model is discontinued!! It has many bad reviews......Poor quality audio, inablity to be manage audio with seperate source, poor quality outputs, distracting finishes... and thats on Sony's own site alone. Don't want to seen ungrateful, but it appears they are offering an admitted dude for thier prior dude.

So am I going to be happy with the KDL55EX500?
Are the bad reviews just overly picky persons?
Is the audio sound and management features as bad as people say?
Is the brushed frame disctracting?

My gut is to ask for another offer. Yes or no?

I've seen some good reviews for the EX500 also. I'm sure you would get used to the brushed frame as you would to a glossy black frame that many sport these days.

This is a great deal, and has a larger screen than your current set. It does have a different picture though. LCDs even when calibrated are not as "smooth" as the SXRD, but I'm sure you would still like it and it's much better than having a color tint that doesn't belong.

+1

I'd like to know as well, if anyone has been offerend a hx929 yet. (ninja edit...post #13882)

And as mentioned above, change your bulb if you haven't yet. Mine turned green within a month of changing my bulb. That was a couple months ago.

I took the 55EX500 to replace my A2000 and am pretty satisfied, considering it was only $200. Yes, the sound is much worse than the A2000, and no LCD will ever look like an SXRD. And yes, the EX500 is old, but so is your A2000. In any case, the picture quality and features are still quite good. I don't find the bezel distracting at all. Every LCD I've seen these days has a glossy bezel, so I don't understand why anyone would fault sony for that. The screen itself is matte, so that's fine.

So if you want the latest and greatest with no compromises, just open your wallet and keep trying until you get the right offer.

Does the size difference bother you at all? I know it's only 5 inches.......

from what i read, the ex500 was actually a better set than the ex700, which was sony's first model to use edge lit led, and due to that, has had several
issues.

my 60ex700 blows away my 60a2000 in just about every way
no silk screen effect - can actually enjoy hockey now
better blacks and shadow detail
better color accuarcy

never liked the "soft" picture on the a2000

the viewing angles are terrible with the ex700 but with my setup does not come into play

had noticable flashlighting for first few months but that has disappeared

IMPORTANT NOTICE

I maintain the informational web site on Sony optical block and related problems with their 2002-2007 rear projection liquid crystal TVs. Sony had been running an "optical block program" for about 1-1/2 years in which owners of these failed TVs received discounts off newer direct-view LCD TVs in exchange for a legal release. This program was abruptly terminated today, and the "I Have A Defective Sony TV" Facebook page, with tens of thousands of customer posts, was turned off.

If you have a pending settlement with Sony for a failed optical block, you should probably try to resolve it quickly, as it is unknown whether Sony will be offering any future program. There is an alternative Facebook page called "I Still Have a Defective Sony TV" that can be used for general discussion/complaints.

Hello All,

My 5 year old KDS50-A2000 was perfect until last night when the picture started to get dim and then blacked out. It would restart a few times but go black in 30 seconds or so. No red flashes until I pulled the lamp housing and re-inserted it. Looks like I need a new lamp. Can you guys recommend the best replacement? I see prices ranging from $68 with housing to $150 for lamp only and $220 with housing. Any difference between brands? What are my chances of getting back to my original picture quality?

Thanks.

I just wanted to say thanks for maintaining your website. I'm glad I was able to get in on the Sony program last year. Hopefully Sony doesn't leave the people that still own these defective sets out to dry when and if they go bad.
I feel sorry for both Sony and the owner's of these sets. It was such a promising design. Great picture and "renewable" by replacing the bulb. It's really unfortunate.

You didn't get a warning on the TV that the bulb was going out? I know I did on mine and it went out about two weeks after I got the warning. I ordered my replacement bulb off of EB, paid less than $100. You can also buy the bulbs off of Amazon. I bought the one with the housing. It wasn't that much more and I didn't have to worry about getting oil from my fingers on the bulb. Hopefully it is the bulb that you need and not something else. Your picture should be back to normal once you install the new bulb. But don't be surprised if in about six months or so, you're OB starts to go on you. Replacing the bulb seems to be one of the factors people have in common with the OB going out. If you notice a color problem: green or blue blob, problems with the tinting, etc...., that's a sign the OB is going.

Nope, never got a warning. It just started dimming, then would only stay on for 30 sec. Should I insist on a Phillips bulb? I don't know who or what "EB" is. Search by Google not getting any hits. Can you give me a clue?

Thanks
