I never said that. I just want my set to last a little bit longer so I can get a quality replacement. I'm hoping to get an even larger screen size for a reasonable price. So I contacted sonylistens, and got a "Event ID" number and a phone number to call. When I called (it took three different attempts to get through to someone who sounded like they were in an overseas call center), I was offered the following choices (and seven days in which to decide):
KDL46EX500 - $415 + tax
KDL55BX520 - $575 + tax

Part of me wonders if the color uniformity would be better with a EX500 or BX520 CCFL LCD rather than an edge-lit LED (everyone seems to want "thinner" sets but it's not clear to me that LED makes for a better image). That said, the 55BX520 won't fit in my entertainment center since at 52 5/8", it is too wide. I'm sending a follow-up email to sonylistens to see if I can get an offer on a 55EX720 or 55NX720 instead, though I'm not thrilled about having to spend over a thousand bucks on a replacement set at this point.

I've heard others suggest maybe getting a smaller set (like the 46" or maybe even a 40") and using it in another room and instead looking for a better replacement for the SXRD, like maybe a Panny Plasma, though their 55" models are also just a smidge too wide which makes me want to wait and see if 2012 brings models with thinner bezels and thus narrower overall dimensions. I might also look into getting the optical block repaired as others have done to see if that buys me a little more time...

Anyway, thoughts on PQ differences between the EX500, EX720, and NX720 would be appreciated. I've found helpful comparison charts (on various Amazon product pages) showing the technical differences (CCFL vs edge-lit LED vs dynamic edge-lit LED, respectively)... Just trying to decide whether to "go cheap" for another room or whether I'd be happy with an EX720 (if I can even get them to offer me one)... Any comments or suggestions?

Don't worry about the 7 days you have for accepting the offer. I was told it doesn't matter. I think that mostly pertains to the models they offered you since that could change depending on what models are available. Contact the Sony Team on Facebook, Sarah Kepler, and tell her what you're looking for in a replacement.

I had my A2000 and A10 rptv set replaced with a ex500 and ex720. Both ex500 and ex720 are awesome for 2d as the ex720 is horrible at 3d too much crosstalk.

Stick to the ex500 or ex720 for great 2d viewing.

Sorry for double posting, but:

TSM finally got the light engines for the KDS55A2000 back in stock, so I ordered one immediately. I remember seeing one rather detailed guide with pictures how to change it, anyone happened to bookmark that and can easily paste it here?

Why? Here in Finland Sony doesn't offer that good replacements. Basically I was quoted 30% off from MRSP from any EX series unit when I asked the local Sony for it. And the SXRD offers the best picture quality for my eyes.

You don't need any receipts. They will ask you to remove the tag on the rear of the TV. Tape it to a piece of paper, which will have your case number on it. Take a picture of it on the paper, placed in front of the TV, with the TV on, showing the problem you are having. You then have to mail it to them. They will then contact you.

Can any of you who have gone the Sony Listens route and received an offer tell me if only the original owner can do this? I have a co-worker who gave away his KDS 50A2000 after buying a new Samsung LED. He apparently was unaware of the green/yellow screen issue, and just kept replacing bulbs. The guy who has the TV now describes discoloration on the right side of the TV that sounds like what I have read on this thread about the optical block issue.

Can the new owner contact Sony; or must it be the original owner?

I'm reasonably sure it does not need to be the original owner. Sony does not ask to see a receipt or for any warranty information. As long as the new owner has the tag from the rear of the TV with the serial number and model number, that's all he should need. I suggest he contact Sarah Kepler from the Sony Team on Facebook. There are other reps but she seems to be able to get things done, especially if there's a problem or you have a certain request.

What's the best way to show off the green tint problem ??? Thinking of contacting Sony soon before these deals and the picture on my set get any worse ! Also should I bypass the whole email Sony thing and just contact the lady on facebook who's been mentioned on here ? Thanks in advance for any replies !

I too have the yellow/amber/green looking screen. Just became apparent over the last few months. I have replaced the bulb about 4 times now. The original lasted about 2 years. The next two about 1 year each and the current one I bought in Sept. of 2011 and it seems to be going dim quick. I sent all of my info and some pictures to the sony cares email address posted here.

The way I showed the green tint problem was taking a picture of a non-HD show, which has the black bars down the sides. You can contact Sony either way. I went with Sarah Kepler on FB.

Took a picture with my iPhone 4 with HDR on , how my eyes haven't seen this till now is beyond me . Noticed picture had a green tint while playing MW3 , but had no idea it was this bad

Was thinking of getting a sharp 735u and putting this in bedroom , now I'm thinking of just seeing what I can get to replace this from Sony .

I thought the same thing with mine. It has been looking amber/yellow to us but when I took the picture it looks really green.

Sony called me today and sent me an email with the event number and offer on my failing KDS-60a2000. KDL55BX520 - $575.00, KDL60EX720 - $1375.00. Now I just need to decide.

Thank you Tony and Chuck for the quick replies. My television was noticabley green so I did not think I could get much by selling it. I gave it away last night to someone that may take on the challenge of installing a rebuilt OB. BTW, I noticed on CraigsList that there are several for sale in my area that are very green and each seller claims that the problem is with the light bulb needing replaced for $80 - buyer beware.
