Hello All,

Been lurking for some time now and this forum has been really helpful.

I have a defective KAS-60A2000 that is going green. I didn't even know there was a problem until I looked for recommendations from this site. Anyway, I thought I missed the boat with the SONY accommodation, but tried to see what can be done anyway.

After asking about more options after they gave me an original offer, I was given these choices as replacements:

KDL60EX720 - $1375
KDL60NX720 - $1486

KDL55EX720 - $795
KDL55NX720 - $995

And even 2 new models there are not any reviews out yet:

KDL55HX750 - $922
KDL55EX640 - $776

Since my living room is wider than it is deep, I really think I would not be happy with a 55", so I am leaning towards a 60." I have an ethernet port nearby so wireless is not a deciding factor.

I have 3 windows with a decent amount of sunlight coming in on the right hand side, so glare is a factor. From reading the NX720 and EX720 threads, it is confusing as to whether or not the Gorilla Glass handles reflections/light well. This TV will be wall mounted with tilt only.

I watch mostly HD on Comcast and regular DVDs. I do not have a Blue-Ray or 3D Blue-Ray, but will most likely do so in the near future. I just want to have the better 3D option when I do dabble into 3D.

It seems that most people are happier with the NX720 over the EX720 due to clouding/flashlighting. I have a Samsung that does this and it does bother me so I'd like to go the best rout to try and avoid. I am aware that most LED's have these issues, just trying to make the smarter decision.

It looks to me like the KDL60NX720 is the better deal/choice, but I wanted some opinions. I have seen them both at Sears recently and they look very similar minus the Gorilla Glass.

Finally, there are no reviews yet for the HX750 or EX640, so not sure what those would be like.

Would anyone try to steer me in a different direction?

When did you receive your offer for the 60NX720 ?? I was told as recently as this week that it was unavailable ?

I received it yesterday as I expressed my desire to have a 60" and then displeasure on $1375 for the 60EX720. You can get it on Amazon for $1539 and finance it 24 months.

I'm going to call Monday , I was told they would not be offering the 60NX720 as they had run out of supply and would not be replenishing it ( maybe its because I have a 60A2020 ) . I also don't want to go lower than a 60". But I have to admit the lil video on youtube I've seen on the 55HX850 and 55HX750 have me intrigued .

You sound like you and I think alike concerning these deals. I'm wondering if the NX720 is really that much better overall than the EX720 as far as screen uniformity and 3D, or if people just like the NX720 because it is "sexier".

Also would like to hear from someone who has both (if there is such a person) and how the glare was.

What looks to be the better deal?

Finally, do you have a link to the HX750 YouTube video?

I got the kdl55 hx729 because of the x-reality pro engine dual chip. Other than that, all the specs seem the same. I was ok going to a 55" from a 60". I think the 750 just replaces the 729 as a new model year maybe?
The kdl55hx729 also has an 18 month warranty as opposed to 12 months on the others.

Yes I really dont want to go smaller than 60" as my living room is wider than it is deep. Also, it seems that a lot of these reviews say the NX720 has a limited viewing angle, which kinda scares me. The KDS-60A2000 did well in this regard, and we bought it for this reason and because it had a matte screen.

Not sure if anyone on here has/had both the NX720 and EX720, but some feedback I'd like to see would be:

1. Does the Gorilla Glass on the NX270 play nice with windows nearby (I have 3 on the right of where the TV would be). Some people say it does good with reflections, others say it is poor. Is it any better or worse than the EX720?

2. Is 3D really that bad on these Sony's? Is 3D on the NX720 a ton better than the EX720? There are quite a few discrepancies from posts in this regard.

3. Is the 60NX720 price I was offered the best deal I was offered? Seems so according to Amazon prices.

Just type HX750 , trust me there aren't many , lol ..... I contacted David Katzmaier from cnet on twitter and he said it should be a good tv , he said he would be reviewing it sometime in the next 2 weeks ... I like you don't want to settle for a smaller set but I also am such a stickler for the littlest things . If the crosstalk in 3D on the NX and EX is really as bad as they say it is on there threads it would just drive me mad , lol ..... These flat panels look so much smaller cause there all screen , I went to best buy and saw a sharp 70inch and still found it looking smaller than my SXRD , guess its something you get used to . By the way if sharp had a 80" 3Dtv right now , discount or not from Sony , i would've went sharp .....

I Got my EX640 as a warranty replacement for my KDS-55A2000 that was turning green as well and so far I can say the picture is amazing!! I have had it for 4 days now so haven't really played with many options yet and also haven't had a chance to fine tune it but so far am very happy. I was going to upsize and if this hadn't been offered free I would have gone bigger but this TV should keep me happy for quite awhile. Now here's to hoping it lasts!!

Wow you got it free as a replacement? Good for you.

Is it thin? Reason I ask is because it looks like companies are going retro. Perhaps they came to the conclusion that there is too much panel ununiformity when going too thin. From what I gather, this is the main reason why there is a lot of clouding/flashlighting on last years thin LEDs.

Any clouding/flashlighting on the 640? Any gripes?

I checked out the EX720 and NX720 side by side at BB , I was surprised both sets weren't on torch mode . The NX720 by far looked like the better tv , the gorilla glass does seem to improve the contrast from what my eyes could see . Unfortunately from what I've read on here is that 3D on these 2 sets are just horrible , seems the true 240hz sets don't have the same problems . If it wasnt for that id easily go for the 60NX720 the 2D picture is really nice . I'm stuck between a rock and a hard place , I don't want to lose the extra 5" on the set , but I sure as hell am not gonna to lower my standards on picture quality . Even if it's only on something like 3D , which I'm probably only gonna to use with the kids . Seems like the 55HX729 is the safest bet , with the 55HX750 a wild card cause so little is known on it . I change my mind every day since I started this process so what do I know , LOL

I can honestly say I may never use the 3D but its nice to have. The specs otherwise I think are superior and I viewed all models at local stores.

Just to let you know the 2011 and prior 3D problems are supposedly corrected. With the 2012 models. The 2012 3D specs have changed.

gungadin19 if you don't mind me asking what date did you receive your offer for the 60NX720 ? I called today and they gave me the old song and dance that the 60NX720 is longer available and that they don't have any in there warehouse .

Congrats , hope you love it . Right now I'm having hard time deciding in what I want , if the 60NX720 was still available it would be a no brainer for me as going to a 55 would bother me to much I think ( before I even found out about this program I had already convinced my wife to let me purchase the sharp 70" 735u ) . My recliner seat is 12 feet from my SXRD and every other seat is a lil bit farther with the biggest distance about 15ft . So a reduction in screen size would really bug me I think .

I think you may have misunderstood me. I meant new 2012 models not carry over prior models. I hope I am wrong. Give SONY Tech Support a call.

Hi all...long time owner of a KDS-60A2000, and recent "victim" of the "green blob" syndrome as well. I've been reading MANY web sites on this, and a LARGE PERCENTAGE of the pages here, and finally called Sony for the first time this morning. I got the same two initial offers, as most of the recent others have:

KDL60EX720 - $1375 plus tax
KDL55BX520 - $575 plus tax

I agree with almost all the others here...I don't really want to give up the 5" of screen size that we're used to having (had the 60A for almost SIX years now!), and also don't want to give up picture quality either, so neither of these options sound very appealing to me. I've done more research since making initial contact, and tomorrow I'm going "TV shopping" to see these and other models first hand.

Once I go see these in person, I'm going to call Sony back and ask about the "better" models that some of you have been offered...as of now, my FIRST and SECOND preferences are as follows:

(1st) KDL60NX720 - $1486 plus tax
(2nd) KDL55HX729 - $925 plus tax

I'll let you know how it goes!

Good luck on getting them to offer you the 60NX720 , I called earlier today and was told it was not being made available because they have run out inventory and are now bringing in the 2012 models which had a total of 0 60" models announced at CES earlier this year . Only 60" I have had offered to me is the EX720 which to me for lack of a better word is just "BLAH" lol . The 65" inch sets are being held for those that bought bigger than 60" SXRD's that are bound to fail also . I told them I don't mind paying more and taking a less of a discount for one of the 65" but there not trying to hear it . Once again good luck , keep us posted on how your dealings with Sony go .

We suffered a lightening strike that fried our blu-ray player, DirecTv DVR, and damaged a perfectly functional KDS-50A2000. The red power LED blinks 5 times and the tv won't power up. I did try a replacement bulb but it had no effect. Any suggestions about what to do? I don't think I want to spend a lot of money attempting to repair a 6 year old tv...

That sucks. Sorry to hear it. I agree it probably wouldn't be worth fixing. You might want to have a tech come out just to find out what it would cost to repair. I found this old post on another website dealing with the same issue: http://www.fixya.com/search/p514034-...2000_red_light

Did you have your components connected to a surge suppressor? Some of the better ones come with a warranty if your electronics get fried while connected to one.

I currently have a 60A2000 that's going yellow. With this replacement, they initially offered:

KDL55BX520 for $575.00 + local sales tax
KDL60EX720 for $1375.00 + local sales tax

I wasn't too keen on either of those models, but with the help of Sarah on Facebook, I got offers on 2 other models:

KDL55HX729 for $925.00 + local sales tax
KDL55NX720 would cost you $995.00 + tax

I'm having a hard time deciding on which one of these to go with.

Also, I bought a lamp last year and I got them to pro-rate the cost of that lamp! I bought it on amazon last year for $94, and the prorated amount is $76. So, if you recently bought a lamp and are going through this replacement, make sure to bring it up.

Anyway, I've been doing a lot of research between the HX729 and NX720 and was hoping I could get some user feedback between the two to help my decision.

Got my replacement tv delivered today ( HX750 ), I made a delivery appointment for Friday , my wife just called me and said they delivered it early . I told her to inspect the box and take it out and plug it in . Delivery guy said that he was only to deliver it to front of the house and that's all . Is this how sony delivers all there replacement sets ??? What happens if something is wrong with the set ? Who do I call the delivery company or Sony ??

If something is wrong with it I would imagine you would do the same thing you do with any delivery...call the company you bought it from. Mine was dropped off just inside my front door. I signed for it, the delivery guy left, and I set it up. Everything was fine in my case.

My HX750 was was delivered to the inside of our home by a dedicated Sony transport firm. Ordinary freight companies generally deliver curbside or to a warehouse dock. Although our new Sony's are very light I recommend you file a complaint with the carrier and especially Sony.
