Being a neophyte owner of the 60A2000, I appreciate the feedback and posts on this site. It is certainly helping me learn how to take better advantage of this nice set.
My wife and I have been together for 12+ years and this is the first TV set that we have ever purchased. Our original TV set 12 years ago was a gifted 21" CRT to my wife for her college graduation and then the second set a whopping 27" we got free from a neighbor who remarried and her and her new husband had 5 or so TV sets between the two of them and he bought a nice small LCD HDTV. The funny thing is that they offered us both a 27" and a 33" and we took the 27" because the 33" would not fit our entertainment stand.
I somewhat digress. Anyway, the feedback is helping me feel even better about the decision and I finally took the plunge, called DirecTV, and they're coming out Tuesday (fingers crossed) to hook up HD. This will be our first HD experience believe it or not up close and personal and my coworkers at work are already telling me once you see it you won't go back. I felt the same about broadband internet and look forward to the same for HD!!!
I did want to say that I really just called DirecTV to inquire about costs and had some questions about their options for HD and and OTA antenna. I'm glad I talked to one of the tech reps because he informed me that we were 1 year into our 2 year agreement and they would offer several "anniversary offers" if we would renew for another 2 years. Since we're currently happy with DirecTV and open to continuing our account with them, this was a-ok to us if they were any good. Thus, asking about the offers for HD, he said they could offer coming out, replacing my SD dish with the HD dish, a "free" HD receiver, and no charge install just for committing to another 2 years. Then programming is of course $9.99 per month which includes local channels (nbc, abc, and fox I think) plus 6-7 others plus plans to add 1-2 more fairly soon. Since I was considering buying an OTA antenna and cabling, etc. to hook that up myself that seemed with some digging like it was going to cost about $100 or so plus my time to hook up. So, I said what the heck sign me up. I tell this offer mainly to make people aware that they will do this _even_ when the first rep I talked to kept telling me it would be $70 or more for just the install plus other costs and then I talked to the tech rep. Note, I am quite picky and detail oriented and asked to make sure the dish upgrade, the new HD receiver, the install, and relocation of existing receiver was all free and he kept assuring me that it was. We will see if it plays out as discussed but long story short Tuesday is 3 days too far ahead right now!!!
Thanks again and I will try to post some HD pics after Tuesday.
cheers and thanks,
p.s. If others are interested, call and ask about any "anniversary" offer icon or link that will show up on your account for them to click and tell you what is available. The first rep mentioned nothing about these offers. I know it's really about another 2 year commitment and good marketing but hey nothing wrong with that if they continue to provide good programming at a reasonable price.
