I'm starting to get the picture dialed in - it's nice and sharp with good source material.

The writing it very sharp and clear when I'm watching it from where I sit. I just wanted to see it was that clear up close and I saw the green and red over and under the white. I'm wondering if it is affecting the picture from where I view it even though I can't see it directly. I'm not sure if this is an exchange issue or not. It has been perfect in every way so far. I almost wish I had not checked not. I remember reading in some earlier posts that convergence issus on an LCoS set is very common.

Yes it is 'normal' and common when looking for convergence errors to see a little color outlining (various colors in various places over the screen) when looking within a few feet. What matters is whether you can see this on fine writing from NORMAL viewing distance. If not then its nothing to worry about.

There is more to the service menu.
I think the above are just the settings from the regular menu.
Will post more soon.

I am trying to get into the PANEL section to play with my convergence settings. How do you get to PANEL? I don't see it on my tv when I scroll the service menu and I don't see it on this list. THANKS! EDIT: I found out to use the JUMP key to get the panel section. I changed the red by one pixel, and it now looks almost perfect. You guys saved me a service call.

Is there any way to adjust the tilt angle of the picture without calling a tech (service menu settings?) So does anyone know what the "Pack ID" is? Seems to tell you if the setting is per input or per resolution. If you switch input or resolution and the Pack ID is the same, the setting will be the same. Note that after switching it'll still show you the old Pack ID and setting until you switch to another setting and then back again.

Chroma delay - used to fix colors being horizontally offset from the luma information in the picture - 720p was the worst offender before this fix. Note this isn't the same as misconvergence.

I found my set needed those exact same adjustments. PC at 720p wasn't almost unusable before. Now it's perfect

Thanks lovingdvd for the reply. I just wanted to be sure. I know I read in some other posts where people were seeing this and it was suggested that if it was over a few pixels that they should return the sets. I can't really tell how may pixels it is over but I do not see it more than a few feet away if I'm looking a the credits on movies on INHD HD broadcasts.

So I was stupid enough to start messing with some service menu settings without first writing them all down. It seemed that a lot of the settings werent really doing anything I could notice. Then I ran in to a setting that is called STILL.
So I tried turning it on and not nothing seemed to happen. Then I tried turning it off but I couldnt. So then I started freaking out and trying to get out of that option and I couldnt eather. I though that something crashed? but then I tried to display something moving on the tv and it was not moving. Thats when I realize that the STILL option freezes the screen on the current frame. I wa about to turn off my tv, but then I thought, what if that will keep it in still mode, I will never be able to turn it off. I knew that I was not too far away from the STILL option in the menu, so I started to blindly move arround the menu turning somethin on and then off. And suddenly I got lucky and turned the STILL setting off. Man I had sweat beeding on my forehead. So then I restarted my TV thinking that everything is ok. But in the back of my mind I still thought that something might be wrong, eventhough I cant see it. Upon restart I had my PC displayed on the screen, and somehow I noticed that when I was moving my mouse cursor arround, there would be some weird motion blur ghosting on the screen. I could have sworn that I never saw that before. It would just turn on and off every couple of seconds. I though it could have been like that from the beginning and I just hadnt noticed it. So then I proceded to do motion graphics tests to see if this was only isolated to the cursor, but it wasnt. I tried playing a dvd but could not see the same problem. So then I decided to go back to the service menu to see if I had accidentaly turned on some option that was close to the STILL option. And that is exactly what it was, it turns out I had turned on some option that could not be noticed untill something was moving on the screen. So now its all fixed........I hope.

I believe that if you mess things up in service menu but don't actually SAVE them, you can just unplug the set after proper shut down and cool down cycle and it goes back to normal??

As a quick test at one point I made a change in the service menu and turned the set off and then right back on and it kept the setting. The next time I turned the set off for a while and came back to it, it had reverted. I can't say for sure but based on this it looks like to reset you just need to turn the set off and wait for the cool down period to finish - unplugging doesn't seem needed. Don't depend on this - but this is what I casually observed.

On the A-10 I had been told unsaved changes would hold till a power interuption, but I am not sure. I guess it can't hurt to kill the power to the set for a while, after cooldown, just to be sure you erase your mistakes.

I have my HTPC hooked up via DVI to HDMI and have powerstrip to get the right resolution on the screen from the PC, however, I have noticed that the picture on the screen isn't exactly "crisp" as a computer monitor would be, I understand that this would not be perfect.. but I think this TV is capable of better.. does anybody else have their pc hooked up to this TV and if so, what settings are they using?? to read text at 1920x1080.. I find I have to squint and it starts hurting my eyes (and don't start thinking I have eye problems...) I just want to know the best picture I can get from my pc.. thanks a lot for the help!!!!

I have the same situation. I have my pc hooked up to the tv via dvi->hdmi cable. First of all I had to change my resolution to 1840x1016 to get rid of the overscan. And you are right I also have to squint, seems like the text is blurry. I also did some pattern testing through photoshop and noticed that the rgb pixels get really offset towards the corners. But even in the middle its not perfect. Is this something that a proffecional would be able to adjust in the service menu?

What do you mean by save them. Is there a special way to save the options? Do I have to press some button to save them?

I set mine to about 1827x1020.. I have the weirdest thing happen, as time goes on the picture shifts itself to the left.. then I hit powerstrip to open and it goes back to the nominal position, I hope this is software related.. which I am sure it is...

anyways.. we need a clearer picture... I would expect this TV to display text better... anyways.. do anybody have any advice or help to settings for a HTPC?

JasonWW,
I have a Motorola 6412 HD DVR and I can't find any "pass through" mode. Do you know if this model has one? Even with it set on 1080i it still looks very good but maybe I could do better if I was able let my A2000 do the upconverting. Thanks.

Saving the settings means using the write option to save them. You press mute then enter and it will save the settings for you.

Can anybody answer this about Color Matrix?

I'm using a HDMI connection from a PC at 1080p, should I set the setting of 1080p Color Matrix at ITU601 or ITU709?

Thanks

Use ITU709 for HD sources, and ITU601 for SD sources.

Hello..

I had the same question until I found the correct setting (for my setup anyway)..

I used Avia Color decoder check patterns, looked thru my green filter, and found that ITU601 for 1080p input was dead on.. I tried the other, but the green totally shifted in wrong direction..

I'm using my Anthem D2 to upscale my 480i (thru HDMI) to 1080p output with 4:4:4: color system..

Hope this helps..

The Comcast DVR unfortunately offers no pass through mode. You have to manually change the setting between say 720p and 1080i depending on the channel you are watching if you want to A2000 to do the processing. Unfortunately not only is manually changing it a PITA, but it also is not even possible when you are recording something unless you are ok with cancelling the recording.

I just set my tv to CNET's suggestions. I don't like detail enhancer, and edge enhancer set to OFF as they suggested though...having them on sharpens the picture a bit to my eyes. The complaint I have is that when I set IRIS to MIN I end up with a color uniformity issue...the left half of the screen runs a bit green, and the right half a bit purple. Quite obvious on white or light scenes. If I set the Iris back to AUTO 2 the issue is not noticible. Any idea what is going on here? The set looks great otherwise...I guess I can just use AUTO 2 all the time, and forget the MIN setting they suggested if I have to. My guess is the convergence varies across the screen, and somehow the lower iris shows it more.

Which means your settings must be very close to mine.

Thanks lovingdvd for the info on the Motorola 6412. Maybe Comcast(now TWC) can come up with a newer DVR that allows pass through.

My TWC uses the SA 8300HD. It does pass through. Have you asked them what boxes they carry?
Would anyone have good settings for HD and SD using the dish vip622 dvr. I watch TV in the full mode, and SD images look pretty bad. I wish the box had a pass through setting. I don't know if any of this has anything to do with the fact that I live in hawaii. Any help would do. Thanks

I just heard that sony says that the tv might get damadged if you hook up a pc to it through the hdmi connection? Is this true? What kind of damadge could it possibly do?

If you guys have a chance set your iris to LOW or MIN and let me know if you see any color uniformity problems. Mine shows a slight green tint on left side and slight pinkish on right side..very obvious on B&W programs. If I run Auto Iris or use the vivid mode the condition is not noticeable. I am debating whether to exchange the set or live with it as is. Would be nice to know if this is a common issue to most.

I've got it on low and have the slightest green tint near the left edge. I haven't seen if different iris settings make a difference, but I'll check when I get home tonight.

Much more obvious to me with black and white, too.

Many of us are running are PCs through HDMI. They more than likely tell you not to do it because they don't want to have to support PCs with infinite video card and driver problems.

The only way I can think of that you could possibly damager a set is by tweaking the display timings using Powerstrip, however most TVs will display "unsupported signal" or something similar if you give them a weird signal.

I have my whole home theater (including my A2000) plugged right into my Panamax M4300-EX home theater power conditioner. Are you saying that this type of power strip will ruin my TV?
