I was able to take a breif look at the KDS-R60XBR2 today at ABC Warehouse. Interestingly, they had it set up right next to a 60XBR1. I looked at them both side by side, and could not really see much of a difference with the somewhat fuzzy HD signal that was fed into all of the TVs on display. One thing I noticed with the XBR2 was after powering it down it took a long time (it seemed ridiculous how long) to power back up. This may have been because the TV had not gone through the initial setup process, because when it did power up, the setup menu appeared. I tried powering down the XBR1, and it booted up much faster. I did not notice any color changes during the power up on either model. One thing for sure is the pedestal size has changed on the XBR2. It is 4" wider and an inch deeper. It definitely won't fit the old stand without some kind of modification. As for looks, it looks just like the XBR1, almost no difference unless you really split hairs. The XBR2 adds some nice features like the DRC modes and palette. I didn't have the time to look at these closely ,and DRC mode 2 was not available for the source that was playing. The picture on the XBR2 was a little less yellow and a little more red, but this could have been the way the picture was adjusted. I didn't have the time to compare the setup menu on both TVs. Also, the XBR2 picture was at MAX and brightness at 50%. Both sets looked to be equally bright, but I am not sure what the XBR1's picture settings were. Overall, it's a classy looking set like the XBR1, but I couldn't see much difference between the picture quality. By the way, I don't own either set yet, but I am leaning toward the 70XBR2.
