No idea. Looks pretty nice, though.

...except for the Sirius satellite radio. I mean, really.... Rotel creating a product that tunes in 32k satellite radio?
Rotel emailed me in may that it was set for a june release... well, guess that was throw out the window
post #4 of 30
The first time I recall a date for release of the RT-1084 was September of last year. It's running way behind.
any update? What is the current projection for the future of HD radio?
In general, next year is projected to be the "establishment' period. The list of stations converted/upgraded to HD Radio should reach the 50% mark by years end at the current pace.

I've watched the list go from less than a single web-page at the start of this year to 15 pages on my PC (I wish I had counted them originally).

The Rotel RT-1084 HD Radio/FM/AM tuner has just been listed on their website, and is probably available to order from their authorized dealers:

http://www.rotel.com/products/specs/rt1084.htm

I wonder what the retail cost will be?
Pretty cool that they included full specifications for the analog as well as digital portions of the tuner. You rarely see specifications on today's products.
799 or 899 I believe. Apparently, available now.
HD radio only on the S/PDIF outs.

I didn't say that correctly.

The S/PDIF output is HD radio only.
what does the switched out do?
It sounds amazingly good.
It's been on for a few hours now and works well.
It's able to receive stations in HD that the Sangean HDT-1 can't lock in.
First Impressions: Heavy cabinet. Beautifully made gear.
Doesn't need Sirius at all.
I think the Sirius thing was an incredibly stupid idea.
The digital out is for both Analog and Digital stations.
I noticed that the Digital out is about +10dB compared to the analog out, anyone else noticed this problem? Also, after being in standby overnight, my unit have problems turning on using the remote. Sometimes it did turn on the output but not the display, other times it did nothing.
It does sound good and the sensitivity is very good.
It ain't a "problem". Digital doesn't have a "level". It passes the decoded bitstream through. Maximum "level" (all 16 bits exercised) will result in the same "volume" from your HD tuner, as from any other digital device (cd player, dat, computer sound card) playing a 0dbfs (all bits exercised) signal. The level discrepency, if any, is in your amplifier and level it is set to reproduce digital signals vs. those that come in on the analog jacks (at the nominal "standard" of 2v peak-to-peak for a 0dbfs signal.

Again, this ain't a "problem". It's why God invented volume controls!
I don't think so. All my other digital incoming datastreams (4 sources) are approximately at normal fixed analog level.
I just noticed that I had attuned the analog tuner input -12db so both the digital out and analog out are way high compared to other sources.

I would like to check one out: any place in NJ that has one?

please PM me

Thanks

I wish the damn thing tuned XM rather than Sirius. The Sirius codec sounds horrid to me.
I will trade someone my HDT-1X so that I can try the Rotel. . Anyone wanna trade?
I just learned of this tuner and will purchase one immediately. And I'm doing primarily for the integrated Sirius capability.

I have Sirius in my vehicle and love it. Sirius's brand new all Grateful Dead channel (32) is being launched next Friday (9/7) and now I MUST have it at home, too!

Have been looking for an integrated AM/FM/Sirius tuner to incorporate into my home theater system and the RT-1084 is prefect! It's the only one I can find that allows all tuners (AM/FM/Sirius) to output on the same jacks (which is the meaning of the "switched outputs", by the way).

Apparently, one still needs a Sirius decoder to work with the RT-1084, who's output connects to the Rt-1084 "din" jack on the rear panel.

There are a couple other AM/FM/Sirius tuners out there (see the Sirius website) but all seem to have separate outputs for AM/FM and Sirius.
I was looking at this too: for now I have separates: the Sangean HDT -1X and Sirius HR-S550 (both work great and together cost half of the Rotel)

You have to buy the Sirius cards separately: I think they are $50.00 ea

I did read a comment about the Rotel on another site:

RTI site

I am not sure, but I thought the DIN connector was for serial RS232 control of each tuner module?

Why Satellite Radio, anyway?

If all you want is the same band, over and over, isn't that what CDs are for? Radio should be VARIETY and NEW.

I'm not sure if I understand you. If you are saying that Sat radio plays the same music over and over, I haven't found that to be true. Quite the opposite, actually. I have a hard time trying to find a music radio station (AM or FM) that plays music I like without assuming that I want to hear the same (old) songs over and over.

With Sat radio I've found a station that plays stuff I like without repeating songs all the time. (I can find that too, on Sat if I wanted to, because I guess some people like "familiarity.") I also hear stuff on my Sat radio I haven't heard before, but would probably like, just like in the "old days" of FM radio.

I haven't given up on radio yet, I just don't use it for music when I have a choice. I'm also giving HD Radio a try to see how it does. FYI, I've got a CD player in the car, but don't use it all that much. (I use it a lot less now that I have Sat radio.)

I did not buy the Rotel RT1084 HD since I thought the price was too high and I'm not interested in SIRIUS.(I have an XM Tuner in the house and SIRIUS in the car.) Instead I bought the Sangean HDT-1X Tuner. What am I losing out on by not having the ROTEL?

Isn't that really besides the point for purposes of this thread?
Radio should be "variety" and "new"? Uh...how would you explain the success of oldies stations?

Familiar music=MEMORIES. Nothing brings back MEMORIES like a tune that was playing "back in the day".

I think you're right. I bought the HDT-1 Tuner( I gave it to my nephew.) and the HDT-1X Tuner and I'm still ahead $400 by not buying the Rotel RT 1084.

I just bought the 1084 after considering xm satellite, squeezebox duet,
sonus and the sangean HDT1x. Got pissed at xm after they wouldn't allow one license to access both my car and home (car has xm built in). Told me i would need to buy a receiver and move back and forth, bypassing my built in car receiver. Ruled out the squeezebox and sonus since
i don't particularly want to burn my CDs to the computer and internet
radio sound quality is poor. Listened to the 1084 and the Sangean and
both are very good with an edge to the Rotel. Main reason i chose the Rotel is because it matches the looks of my Musical Fidelity A5 amp and CD player. Gotta say, HD radio was a great choice. I live in Denver and most stations have an HD signal, but best of all they broadcast 2 stations...the regular commercial BS and a non commercial simulcast. We have couple of really good commercial free stations and the sound quality is excellent. If i had known about the commercial free stations i would have bought one much earlier. I have no use for the Sirius though. Rotel says they will soon come out with an HD radio without the Sirius. It'll probably be about $600 ish.
