Just in case any fellow XBR 2/3 owners are not aware...the Star Wars movies are on MAXHD today. Looks really good.

Hello to you lucky XBR owners. I hope to join you guys this weekend. Please excuse my question if it has been asked before. I did scan the older post but might have missed this one.

What is the difference between the KDL-46XBR2 and the KDL-46XBR3. Anything of significance?

Thanks for your time.

PHP Code:
[Boggie Dog]difference between the KDL-46XBR2 and the KDL-46XBR3.

Think I found the answer to my question from an earlier post
Seems the answer is just the surround on the set.

If this is not correct please post the correct info.

Thanks

Lumpy

Service Menu entry was not necessary. This set has all you need in the
User menu.

1. Gloss black bezel-surround on the XBR3, the XBR2 comes standard with brushed chrome bezel, and you can order replacement bezels in any of 5 colors (at $250 a pop!).

2. XBR3 has an 18 month mfgrs. warranty, XBR2 has a 12 month.

3. XBR3 costs $300 more.

That's it!

After a couple of months debating on what new TV to get (replacing a 2 year old Maxent EDTV plasma...) I finally broke down and bought the KDL-40XBR2!

The sales guy at the Sony Style store said the same things that you said above about the XBR2 vs. XBR3. Having the bezel be "polished piano black" instead of silver just isn't worth $300... There was even a $300 gift card for buying the TV, so I ended up getting the 5-year warranty for free

I'm still going through all of the different settings and options, but thus far the KDL-40XBR2 is turning out to be an awesome purchase!

My son has been complaining that his XBOX seems to freeze with the new display. The major change here has been increasing output resolution to 1080i over the xbox component cable.

Anybody have an suggestions or thoughts about what is possibly going on? I am starting to think that the issue is that he is maxing out the xbox, and that the issue has nothing to do with the display. Your thoughts?

originalsnuffy,

I doubt that your son is maxing out the xbox. These things were made to be played on for hours at a time. There are days when I've logged serious hours on my set playing the 360 and I have had no issues. That being said, it could be that your xbox 360 is overheating if it is in a confined area or you have a defective unit.

I have friends that have had many freezing issues with their 360's and I have had next to none with mine. Just as with anything electronic, sometimes you get a good one, sometimes you don't. I would call 1-800-4-myxbox and see if the techs can help you out. You may be able to get a free 360 sent back to you if your console is truly going bad. Microsoft is generally pretty good about fixing problems for you.

Good luck

I agree w/slapshot's observations. In addition, is the TV set to Game Mode? All bets are off if the set is in anything other than Game mode - too much video processing going on with the other TV modes. Game mode is specifically there to reduce lag and frame-rate hits on the display while gaming...just something to check.

also to note about the freezing issue, I heard that some are experiencing less than desired results after downloading the fall update. Microsoft is said to have released or will release soon a "patch" to make the update work better (and hopefully fix the 1080p vga issue for us XBR2 owners!)

If you have a cloudy or uneven backlight in your XBR2/3 please vote in this poll and/or post! Thanks!

Hi, my first post in the forums. I have XBR2 and the 360, but my image seems to have blur sometimes, as well as when I play Dead Rising.

I put Game Mode On, and I played around with some picture settings, so I am just wondering if anyone can give me their settings for a better picture.

thank you

No blur on mine using Components, XBOX 360 set at 1080i, TV set w/ Game Mode On. So far only played Need For Speed Carbon, Gears of War, Marvel Ultimate Alliance. No problems, works great.

Oh, also, I have been using the settings posted by petmic10 (although it was for HD sources) and it works good so far. Until petmic10 posts his XBOX360 settings I'm happy with how it is now.

thank you for the quick reply, can you provide a link to petmic10's settings?

I would greatly appreciate it!

Einz,

What you are most likely seeing is supposed to be there. In many cases, developers intentionally put in motion blur to enhance realism. For instance, when there are fast moving images, it would be nearly impossible for some type of motion blur to not be there and the picture to still look realistic. Just like when you wave your hand in front of your face really fast...you'll see a blury image. It's not the tv, just the nature of a fast moving image. This tv is as good if not better than other HDTV's I have seen in it's ability to show a fast moving picture.

yeah i know that, but I just want the maximum quality out of my HDTV... cos the other guy said that he has no blur what so ever playing the same game, while I do get it. I am just scared (cos I am not that yet familiar with HDTVs) that I have messed up some settings maybe, and its not looking as best as it should.

I purchased the KDL-XB2 40 inch display one week ago. No cloudiness or bad pixels however, on day 2, a thin black horizontal line appeared as I was changing settings. This was present on all inputs. This persisted even after unplugging the TV for a while. I was prepared to return the set but the next day for unexplained reasons the line disappeared while watching a program on TV. Has anyone else notice this problem? Any suggestions on what to do next? The television is a remarkable display otherwise.

First I've heard of this. If it happens again take a picture of the problem and schedule an exchange.

hey all,ive just gotten my xbr3 today and so far so good...........
on a no signal screen i dont notice any cloudiness at all.......and no bad pixels!!!
the upper left side seems just slightly lighter.....but not enough to be bothersome....as i watched batman beyond just to make sure

just trying a classic.....looks really good and its only s-video!!

guitar hero 2 looked great!!!!!! connected componant

and just for good measure the 360 dash.....looking great in componant

it just so happened that i had a pioneer 930hd which i returned for this set.....

to me comparing plasma to lcd is like comparing apples to oranges......you cant really............both have benifits and losses......nothings perfect

i got rid of my pio because the image retension was driving me crazy......and i hated playing a game and constantly watching the clock..........also it ruled out hooking my pc up to it also..........it was just a serious hassle....

the lcd on the other hand as i have shown makes video games look great!!! honestly gutar hero blew me away as 1. i never would dare play it that bright on my plasma and 2. for some reason ......every game on the ps2 looked bad on it......looks way better on the lcd......no idea about that one......

regular tv looks pretty bad......but i expected it to.......it did on the pioneer too....

hd tv was a worry for me.....but honestly inhd looked just awesome........putting my mind at ease....

im still on the process of tweaking and my photo skills are a little lacking so forgive me......

i did notice however that ive been playing my dvds through my 360 using componant...........this is probably the only thing i think the plasma would win in.....ive tried a couple of dvds.....and they all have a grainey look to them......perhaps im missing a setting or somethings..........

was going to hook up my pc.......but my vga cable is like 2 feet short!!!!

maybe next time!!!

I have the KDL40XBR2 and I noticed that if I look through the top vents, I can see a flashing amber light inside the tv, near the middle. Does anyone know what this light is for?
yea same here
its prolly normal
i have a radeon x850 video card......

and when i hook it up via vga and choose 1080p 60hz
i get the image displayed.......and the tv sees it as 1080p
but on the left side the image is missing like 8 inches???

has anyone else had this problem?
