Which one would be best for the Sony KDL-52XBR3, a wall mount or a stand?
Sorry, for what I know has been posted, but what are the methods for resetting the XBR2? Is it unplug for 30 seconds? Longer? I don't mean just the settings in the menus. Thanks.

I would agree. Do not buy the XBR for the black levels. Buy it because you love not worrying about burn in, it looks great in a bright room etc and know that you are not losing much on the black level side.

Hmm, anyone know if these sets support 1080p24? I've read somewhere that it does, and somewhere that it doesn't. I plan on using a Xbox360 HDDVD drive via PC to watch movies, was wondering if 1080p24 was possible. Thanks
post #2797 of 3414
FYI 360 owners. (This is completely my opinion and observation.)

I swapped from Component to VGA for gaming (not video) testing, and I definitly noticed a difference in image quality. But, to my surprise -VGA looked worse. It wasnt as colorful or sharp. Infact, it was just muddier. I played with some of the settings to see if I could improve on the sharpness or color, and no matter what settings I used or didnt use -it never looked as good. I loaded up Gears of War and NFS: Carbon, swapped cables and in my opinion -component was much better.

Bummer. I was hopeing to free up a some component in ports so I could plug my PS2 via component in as well as my Wii.

Speaking of which, can anyone recommend a good quality and reasonably prices compoent switcher? I imagine there is a good one on New Egg or Monoprice, but when it comes to this stuff I havent a clue!

I was looking at that remote because I badly need a universal remote to replace the 249782784824 I have already. Was wondering if it had any discrete codes for the XBR2 like Video input 1, input 2, .... input 9 etc...

If you haven't purchased your 880 yet, I have one that is still in box that I am not using. If you are interested, PM me.

I assumed the 52" would be the same as the 40" and 46", so I apologize.

This is very frustrating, many owners of the 40" & 46" including myself
complained about no 1080p over component and then Sony goes and
allows 1080p over component on the 52" models.

Nice job Sony.

Excuse my ignorance but is this something that they can create a S/W patch for or is this a hardware issue?

Thanks,

If your cable box allows it you need to configure it to pass the signal through to your tv. It will depend on what box you have as to whether it allows that to happen. There will be some kind of "pass through" option in the setup menu for component conections, or if you are using a DVI connection there would be an "auto DVI" option that you would select.

I'm sure someone can be more specific if you post what cable co. and the model of your STB.

Thanks,

Yes i'm sure its possible but good luck trying to get Sony to take care of that
when they won't even acknowledge that some of these sets are having
clouding issues.

I do not nknow about your cable box but my DVR Sat box allows me to set the output resolution. The set, to my knowledge, will display all input signals at 1080p

Can someone with a xbox 360 and a vga cable please download the new dashboard update to make sure 1080p still works after they install it? I am afraid to update my console now that everything works fine.

I get a better picture if my cable box does not upscale the signal and my XBR2 does all the upscaling/deinterlacing. If you set the output resolution on the STB then the box is doing all the upscaling and the TV just deinterlaces the signal to 1080P ( TV's "native" format) so it can be displayed. Some STB's don't allow the signal to "passthrough" and in that case you have to depend on the box's electronics to do the conversion. In my case the electronics in my XBR2 are better than what the STB ( SA 3250HD) provides and I get a better picture letting the Sony do all the conversion. The downside is that there is a slight delay when switching channels of different resolutions as the Sony does it's conversion but I can take the slight delay to get a better picture.

I just tested it on my XBR3 and it worked fine.
you used the vga cable to get 1080p right? (stupid question, I know, but I want to make sure we are setup the same)
Well, I used the VGA cable and there was a single setting for 1920x1080 (no "i" or "p") -I'm assuming that's 1080p.

My box is sa 8300hd and I have it to fixed 1080i, now correct me if I am wrong, If I was to choose 1080i, 720p and put the box to auto/dvi/hdmi then the tv does the upscalling? Also I have a hdmi connection from my cable box to the tv.
Thanks......

Yes...at least that's how mine works. Using the Auto selection should let the box pass whatever the original signal is ( 480i,720P,480P, 1080i) to the Sony that will then do all the converting/deinterlacing. Using the "display" button on the Sony remote will tell you what resolution the signal that is being sent to the TV is. You will see 480i-4:3, 720P -16:9, 1080i-16:9 etc. That will confirm that the STB is passing the signal in it's original form to the Sony.

crap, did you actually test it or just see the 1080 option?! I need to know if you actually selected 1080 and it worked succesfully on the tv. Now I am scared to connect to live and get the update! I has killed teh 1080p connection on some tvs already.

JayS99,

from page 50 of the manual:

Turn on the TV, while holding down the UP arrow button on the remote, press the POWER button on the TV. (The TV will turn itself off, then back on again.) Release the UP button.

That's it...

Are there any settings on the t.v. that need to be enabled for the t.v. to do the, upscalling or is it done on its own. I also have a monster power center where I can hook up all of the devices including one for the cable, Does anyone know if you get a better cable quality running the cable directly to the stb, or filtering the signal with the powercenter..

The TV does everything automatically for you. There are a few things you can adjust like the DRC palette in the Custom settings, but otherwise the TV automatically upscales and deinterlaces the signal. I'd try both passthrough or 1080i to see which looks better to you on the 8300. I'm sure other people have/will chime in to say which method they like better.

Filtering shouldn't affect anything with a Digital TV. If anything running it through the powercenter may weaken the signal below the spec the box needs if the signal is weak.

did anyone figure out if there is a problem with 1080p via vga after the xbox 360 update today.

It was perfect before, but I want to make sure the new update didnt screw anything up before I download it.

I picked up the 40 XBR2 and couldnt be happier. Sony hit a home run with this unit. I have no cloud issues and the picture is amazing.

So, what's the buzz on these new 3000 series LCDs coming from Sony. Will these replace and obsolete the current XBRs? Anybody found and details and specs on these yet?

Nobody with any information on this? For me it's a must that the screen will accept AND output at 24Hz (or 48, 72 96Hz).

I remember reading a review, I think it was cnet.com and they stated that
it accepted 1080p/60 but not 1080p/24.

I wonder if it can be added with a FW upgrade?
