Just bought Samsung5678W, Screen looks grainy, help please

Hello all,

I'm new to these forums so i hope i posted in the right section... i just ordered and received a Samsung HL-R5678W, unpacked it, set it all up with my xbox 360 and turned it on.

I was going around the Xbox Dashboard (kind of like the a menu for the xbox) and I noticed right away, the screen looks like its covered with condensation... like when you take a soda out of the freezer and leave it out for a few minutes; it looks like it has water droplets all over the whole thing. Picture is crystal clear though, but i just keep noticing it looks like a layer of droplets covering the picture....

Is there some protective layer i'm supposed to take off? Or is this how its supposed to look, and it just takes some getting used to? Please let me know... Thanks!

Did you ever find a resolution to this? I just bought a Samsung HL-T4675S and I have the exact same issue you described.

Does this happen with all sources? Have you tried DVD's or HD broadcasts?
How are you connecting the XBOX? Have you tried adjusting any of the user settings? Changing the picture modes?

Mine has happened with the following sources:

1. DVD connected with composite cables (haven't had time to pick up some component cables yet)

2. HD OTA

3. Nintendo Wii with composite cables.

I'm hoping this is something that can be fixed by using component or HDMI cables and tweaking the calibration of the TV. I am currently getting a calibration DVD from Amazon. I will post my results once it arrives.

Also, tomorrow I'm having digital cable w/ HD installed for I'm hoping that having it connected via HDMI will be better than OTA.

Would you describe the screen as having a "sparkley" look to it, especially during bright scenes? If so you are probably describing "silk screen effect" which you tend to get somewhat on DLP displays. Not sure if that is what you are describing but I thought I would ask.

...and I've noticed that it looks a little grainy in very-high-light areas, but I sure would never describe that as looking as if "...its (sic) covered with condensation... like when you take a soda out of the freezer and leave it out for a few minutes; it looks like (sic) it has water droplets all over the whole thing." I'd MUCH rather see that graininess than the pixelation of LCDs.

Yeah, this is totally the silk screen effect. It's funny, I've never really noticed it with DLP displays before I bought this one. After some calibration it's not too noticeable though unless the picture gets very light.

Yes, it is the silk screen effect. It has to do with the material and plastic they make the screens with. I have the hlt4675s and i noticed the same thing. I stated in another post that i fixed this by setting the dnle on and the picture mode to movie. You may need to change the color, tint etc... also.
