Panasonic 42PX25 Horizontal Position Skewed..HELP

Came back from a trip and noticed my TH-42PX25 had some issues when viewing a dvd. The Horizontal position on any 480i source was skewed to the left (i.e. the picture was shifted to the left and a part of the screen on the right was now black)

Assumed it was the DVD player, but when I changed it and used another the same issue. Move around to all the inputs and the same problem. The HDMI input is the only one which is working fine, no issues with positioning or color.

I know that their is a horizontal adjustment within the service menu, but I don't think this is the problem. My fear is that one of the boards has died.

Trying to figure out what that board might cost and how much a repair would be in New York City. I have a few calls in to service technicians, but wanted to throw it out to the board to see if anyone has any experience with this issue.

Any suggestions or tips on what I could possibly try to reset the screen on these sources and/or trusty worthy repairs specialist in NYC is much apprecaited.

Appreciate the quick response.

Very similar except the entire remaining picture would be shifted over also.
For example, in your picture the first football player would be cut off slightly to the left and about 1/5 of the right hand side is all black as indicated in your picture.

Again the HDMI picture is perfect, I have done a firmware update and unplugged the set from the wall for several hours to reset, but no luck. Any thoughts?

It is similar to that, except the black bar is on the right, and I wouldn't be able to see the "Extra" sign on the bottom left as that part of the picture would be off the screen

Sorry, I meant to say right.

Unfortunately this is usually caused by a defective DG Board.

My advice is to call Panasonic Plasma Concierge at 1-800-973-4390 to explain that you have an older model with a known issue and see if they can repair your plasma out-of-warranty for free.

I have TH-42PX25 factory service manual maybe helpful to you - it has hundreds of pages on how to enter service mode on plasma, how to adjust pretty much everything, block diagram, schematic diagram, troubleshooting tips, etc. don't have the time to go through it now.

I got hundreds of Panasonic, Pioneer, LG, Zenith plasma TV factory service manuals in an auction, and some LCD service manuals, and some NEC, Samsung, Toshiba, Hitachi, Daewoo plasma tv factory service manuals. Reading some of those really helped me learning how plasma works - for example, how pixels get the brightness info and how they light up, was the brightness controled by width of pulse, or by voltage, etc....

Well, great news....ended up buying the Test piece and it actually fixed the problem on the first try. Many thanks to BruZZi for all the help and crabbon for the notes on how to use the test jig. Which Panasonic Model do you have???

thanks to the info on this site, i finally fixed my tv! i ordered the test jig from panasonic, when i got it it took me about 3 min to go through the steps. once it was done my tv looked good as new!! thanks!!

Hi guys,
I am not an AV type person, but I do love my tv. I have the TH-37PD25UP and the picture is skewed. I had done some research and found online that is needed a firmware upgrade but none of the Panasonic dealers I called were familiar with the issue. How do I get my hands on one of these jigs? Do you have to be a dealer or repair shop to get one? I am in the NYC area and would appreciate any guidance. I am reluctant to pay hundreds for diagnostics when I know what is wrong and have little confidence in the repair shops I have spoken to. Thanks in advance.....

The part number on the one i bought from panny is TNPX25jig. It cost me $38 and has been a real lifesaver as I have 94 of these tv's @Jacksonville municipal stadium.

Hey. Is there anyone out there that is willing to copy their working firmware to my test jig? I got the jig and accidentally copied the bad firmware to the jig instead the other way around. Model on my tv is th-42px25. I will ship jig to ur house and include cash to ship back?
