Here is the room treatments thread. Now... my speakers are kind wobbly on the carpet as well. So maybe something rigid is what I need, so long as it works the best on sound quality and vibration isolation. Did you try listening to the subdudes to see how you liked the effect?

Nope, did not listen.

Overtone,
Took Mike's advise and ordered a pair of maple boards. Check out www.timbernation.com He makes maple cabinets too. While waiting for them to arrive i have a couple of cheap boards found in the garage under the speakers. They make a huge difference in improvement in bass, upper bass, and lower mids definitation. Even the overall sound is clearer. Less of the vibration getting into my walls, floor and furniture... Will post how the maple board work.

Mike,
With the maple boards additional 3", how they affect the soundstage, imaging...etc of the 1037s?
Question for all:
the grill of the tweeter, better to be off or on. Only recently tried with them off and found more detail. Like to hear your opinion.

Actually I just measured and even on a 3" block the tweeter is at my ear level, nothing negative to report in imaging and soundstage, just the improved bass. BTW, Focal reccomends leaving covers on the drivers for best sound.

I don't see how 3'' @ the base is going to make that big of a difference, since the standard deviation of height for adults is bound to be that or probably more.

I was @ Ikea to get some cushions and came across this. Picked up 2. Will try it out now to hear the effects. 1.5'' is actually pretty thick, and these things are SOLID! I wonder if there will be any issues from bass bouncing off the boards and up. I doubt it.

Ya, my tweeters were actually more than 3" below my ears so I had room to play with.
I don't hear a bass bounce issue. On a 1.5" platform you have room for spikes to further decouple the speakers.

I have a feeling the spikes would also give the board some more stability. Anyone know a good online source for something simple to attach to the boards, and cheap?

Doesn't seem like it's doing much for the walls, but the bass seems to sound much more defined and fat sounding. I haven't A/B'ed them, and I put on a cut I haven't heard all day, so who knows if it's just placebo effect or what. I scratched them up a bit so I dunno if I can take them back, but I guess that's alright.

With a few months with the Chapter Precis integrated 2x130 watts, I can honestly say I won't ever need a new amplifier. The 1027's match with these electronical capabilities surpass anything else I've heard on any Focal model, with any amplifier. The only thing left is to add a good source for all this, with the Chapters clarity and immense control, you just have to add a CD-player to match. It brings out every nuance in such a way, and it treats the BE-tweeter with an impressive amount of resolution. Chapter Audio also has monoblocks and pre-amps that I haven't heard, but intend to.
It's pricy and you really need to look well for a dealer who carry them, but with Focal it's a clear-cut match.

Thanks for the update. It is always good to hear about new combinations that sound great. Like I said, the chapter stuff sure looks very nice. Looking forward to hearing more about this gear and how the rest of the line works with Focal.

I live in Arcadia CA. Here are some starters: L A Audio (Koreatown), Sunny Comp (covina) and Digital Ear (Tustin). I bought from LA Audio and Sunny before but I am familar with all three. Here are a couple more. I work in Carlsbad. There is also Dynamic Sound System (Carlsbad) and Audio Architec (La Jolla). Matt of Audio Architec also contributes here in this forum. I am sending you a private message to give you more background about the three in LA.

Hold everything! New Focal Electra S series shown at CEDIA. Priced between the Profile line and Electra Be line!

Pics or it didn't happen!
interesting--wondering who such a product would be aimed at--the profiles aren't exactly inexpensive to begin with and if you wanted to upgrade wouldn't one want the be tweeter? seems an odd price point to introduce a new line--would these be aimed at the HT crowd or primarily music crowd crowd primarily? In any case, cant wait to see what they look like and hear the first reports of how they sound esp compared to the be line and the profiles.

Looks to me similar to what B&W does in their Nautilus 800 series. They have a diamond line (Electra Be) and the regular aluminum (Electra S).

I think the Electra S will be exactly same as the Electra Be, with the Profile tweeter instead of the Be tweeter.

Anyone know of any dealers in northern california, bay area? I've tried the focal website but they dont list any. I also checked out the dealers link from audioplussevices, there doesnt seem to be any actual audio stores. Any help would be great. I want to buy te chorus 800 series but would like to audition them first. any help would be great. 1st post by the way!

Very interesting. Electra speaker with the profile tweeter. So a non Be version. Sort of like having the earlier versions back. ie 906, 926, 936. I am interested to see how this all plays out.
Hmm, hard to really see where such a series will fit in as the price gap between Profile and El Be isn`t really that big.
Maybe it's not about a lack of product at that price point so much as it is about there being people who want the Electra but are willing to forego the Be tweeter.
Are there any other changes besides the tweeter on the new Electra S? How do the Profile tweeters sound anyway?

I think theres some new finishes with the Electra S product. The picture looks like an Ebony wood finish. Also it looks like theres no down/front firing port. Maybe a rear port instead. In terms of new products that was all.

The new Utopia line is still a ways off.

I'm looking for ideas for a sub for my 2-channel system. I need a sub that is fast enough and blends in well so I don't know it's there. I want it to supplement not overpower the bass. My room is 2,900 cu ft, I have the focal 1037 BE's, they are enough to fill the room with bass, I'm just looking for a little more extension. Right now I'm looking at the Velodyne DD's, 12 or 15 inch.
I'm very happy with the way my system sounds now, just want to explore a bit.

if you have the scratch to get the dd series consider jl audio--MULTIPLE rave reviews--probably worth the audition. i'm also in the market for a new sub--looking at hose options also but havent been out to listen yet...supposedly for a lot less people seem to like the hsu's. let us know what pairs well with your 1037's. i'd love a pair of fathoms...

Thanks for the reply, as I look into this more and talk to other people my choices boil down to high end Rell and JL Audio. The F113 looks doable used for me as a beginner sub. I'll report back.

A JL Audio F113 turned up at Audiogon, local audio friend, so I just brought it home. This thing is a beast. I just hooked it up to try and looks/sounds like it's what I want. I gotta get some long interconnects and place it behind my listening couch and dial it in.
