Audio, most definitly share what these sound like. Like you, I think they will be a great option for that price point.
I am sure he would not mind ,

I bought a set of Focal Chorus S recently and I'm pretty satisfied with that, it has great mid-high sound but somewhat lacking bass, however I can't comment much because I'm new in audio (HT audio) things, but I'm curious how will Chorus S series compete with B&W 600 series 3, can anybody give a general thought about these 2 sets?

Hi MikeDuke I am in the process of auditioning 1027s, DynAudio, Vienna Acoustics and Aerial. I cannot find a dealer other than Tweeter in the Philly area that has them. Trying to get a dealer list from Focal is like pulling teeth. I did hear them @ Tweeter with Krell gear and they sounded promising. Any Ideas where else I can go?

Thanks

Lou

I may be way off base, but my gut says Focal would not match up well with Krell.

Krell and Focal surprisingly pair up very well.

The Krell bass really helps even out the dynamic highs of the Focals.

Go to the audioplus services website, and they have contact information for all the regional reps. Email the rep for your area, and they will tell you who has them for demo.

You will be hard pressed to do a price to price comparison between Dyn and Focal because the Dynaudio 5.4 are a bit more than the Focals. I can tell you that between the two you have the two best sub 10K speakers on the market.

I had a chance to hear the KAV-400xi and a 1027Be in a decent environment. It sounded good. I didn't bring an AP1, but as far as I could tell, the Krell was doing its job just fine.

Lou,
I got mine here
http://www.outlookaudio.com/
That is the store. I got the floor model so he may not have any in the store, but try and call anyway.

Also this is the site for the company that distributes JM Labs in the U.S
http://www.audioplusservices.com/
You can search for dealers there.

MikeDuke,

i'll call them tomorrow. They do not even show up when you do a query on audioplus's web site.

Good info thanks.

I am with you on that. The only problem is that the only thing cooler would be the Alto or more likely, Nova Utopia's. Not going to happen anytime soon. The 1027's are plenty good.

Any word on the replacements for the Cobalt series? A regional Audioplus rep mentioned to me a couple of months ago that they would be out this fall sometime. So far I have only seen information on the Chrorus 800 line but not about the new Cobalts. (if that is what they will be called.)

No, my understanding was they both would be coming out with a new line. Chorus has always been the entry level with the Cobalts being the next line up from them. I heard this from at least a couple of AudioPlus reps that I exchanged emails with and my local Tweeter salesman.

The Chorus 800 line is the replacement line for the Cobalts. Their price points match, plus they are a few extras.

I am hoping that our Chorus 800 order shipped today as planned. They look incredible.

Yeah I had audioplus rep clarify his previous statement. I still think it is a questionable marketing strategy that the Chorus series will basically be divided into two. Including the previous Chrous series at the 700 level and the new 800V line. The 700 series is supposed to be replaced later this year also. It just seems odd that they would not have come up with a different name rather than lumping them under the old Chorus series. But I guess as long as this new Chorus 800 series is as good as advertised then it will not matter. It is nice to finally see they will offer a bi-pole dipole speaker. I just hope they intend to offer them in the wood grain finish. I only have seen them in black online.

I dont think Chorus are the replacement for the Cobals since they use the polyglass speaker cones vs the W sandwitch cones of the Cobalts. Chorus has always used polyglass. Moreover the price of the 3 driver Cobalt is still higher than the one of the three driver Chorus. The only difference is the tweeter but even the newer one does not have the top end frequency response of the tioxid used in the Cobalt and previous generation Elektra. I personaly think the only 'real' step up tweeter is the Beryllium one used in the Utopias. My oh my how those sound wiith Krell gear.....

Alright just got our Focal demo models. Best "metal dome" tweeter I have ever heard. Dynamic and crystal clear highs with no fatigue whatsoever. For all you Focal owners or lookers, these things kick butt. These make other metal domes sound like Klipsch. I am sold on the inverted dome. Cant wait to get our Utopia stuff. Gotta love those French!

FYI Chorus 800 speakers should get to me by next Tuesday or Wednesday. As soon as I receive them I will give my listening impression.

I am very excited about this line. They should get even better in a week or so.
Very good stuff Audio. And do make sure you keep us informed on what you think of them. As I have always said, I love JM and always will. They know how to make a great speaker. How far up the Utopia food chain are you going? Will you have Grand's? Those are just insane. Great speaker. The tweeter is what sold me on JM. I just never have heard anything that good before.
Has anyone heard the CC1000be yet? I would like to hear some of your feed back since I want to upgrade from the chorus CC700s. I'm still wondering why the CC1000be is so pricey compare relatively with many other center speaker out there. For example, some of best Paradigm, PSB, and B&W center speaker maybe around 1k. I meant CC1000be must be extremely sound good to stay at 2.6k !
an upgrade from cc700s to a cc1000be is a huge step forward

with good electronics you will notice the effortless dialog, faster and cleaner sound, bigger dynamic range and smooth highs

not to mention the better cabinet construction and materials, crossover components, driver design and cone materials selected
post #54 of 6426
the best of b&w is htm1d easily 3 times more expensive than the cc1000be

For right now, we are probably only going to start with the Micro, and Diva models as I would imagine these are the most popular, by we do a lot of high end custom work so its nice to know that we can cater to any budget. The Micro Utopia is one of the best speakers I have ever heard.
hey AA

wonder if you know the stands for micro be has 2 versions?

perhaps one versiion was for the old micro and a modified new one for micro be?

An upgrade to the 1000 center will be HUGE. When I went from my Def Tec C/L/R 1000 to the 901 center I could not believe the difference. Soundtracks and vocals just jumoed off the screen. Spoken words were much much cleaner. Considering that about 60% of what you see on the screen comes out of the center speaker, getting a good one is important.
Audio,
The Diva is a great speaker. I have heard it many times. It was one that I wanted but now I don't need to get it . I have not heard the micro in a long time though. Good to start off that way and see what kind of interest is generated.

AudioArchitect,
I've just come back from viewing the new 800V range and I'm impressed. I've booked a demo with some Naim gear on Friday but I'd be very interested in your findings/opinions when you try them out.

Cheers
Dave

Funny story about Naim. When I talked to the Focal rep last time we talked about good gear to match up with the speakers. He said the only product that didnt work good with Focal was Naim.

Anyway, I should have those 800's in early next week. I will post my impressions, and pics if I can figure out how!?
