Is there a sound quality difference between using L/R preamp-out connections vs. LFE-out connection?

I currently use LFE-out, but want to use L/R preamp-out to activate the s/w instead. My preamp (Anthem AVM50v) processes my phono-out through internal ADC (to use Anthem Room Correction), and I want to keep the analog signal as pristine as possible. Only way to do this seems to be to bypass the ADC, which in turn means no ARC or s/w LFE out, so leaves me with no choice but to wire s/w directly using L/R preamp-outs.

I would normally try this out before asking, but I do not have long enough cables to experiment. Before I plop down $, I thought I'd ask you experts

Trying to find out which line of Focal speakers would be a good match for my Arcam AVR 600? Looking to do a 5.1 system. Want something that is great with both movies and music. What should I take a look at?

FWIW, I have an Arcam AVR350 pushing a Profile 918/cc908 front stage. I ended up adding an Emotiva 3-ch power amp to the mix to take some strain off the AVR. With the 600 having more power than the 350, this might be a good match. If you were to get into the Electra line, you would probably need some external amps to at least drive the fronts....

Should be just fine for anything in the Chorus line.

Here is a review of the Electra 1028Be and its buddies....

I would say that is a very good review overall. I am still anxious to get my chorus 705's for surrounds. But I still love my 1027's .

I found it to be a little 'movie heavy'
There wasn't really much about how they performed with music.

I read another review that mentioned there was an improvement over the sound of the 1027's, but I have heard neither so I have no input on this one...

I am not sure about the price but from my experience of the lower level Focals (816W & 826W) with a Denon 4308 I think you will need more power to drive them properly. After a number of power amps I have settled on a 2nd hand Rotel 968 (?) 5 channel power amp in-front of the Denon to drive my 5.1 system.

You should be able to get a decent 2, 3 or 5 channel power amp for not a huge amount, just do research as to what will work best and be prepared to swap it out for another altenative later like I did.

Unfortunately it is a Home Theater magazine so it would make sense that they would lean to that side. I would also say that there is more then likely an improvement over the 1027's. I had the 927's which have the same size drivers as the 1027's yet the 1027's are better in just about every way. The 1028's have the same size mid and bass driver and I think the tweeter is a bit bigger. The 1027 had a 1 in tweeter and the 1028 has a 1 1/4" tweeter. Plus it is a generation ahead and I am sure they worked on the crossovers as well. So I would guess that the 1028's would sound "better".

I recently purchased a set of Focal Speakers to be driven with marantz sr7005.
I heard they work well together.

My question is, what kind of stand should i look for or diy, to use with center CC800V? I don't think Focal have one for center.

There are no holes on the bottom or back of the speaker, so how to make it stable?

Thanx..

Thank you for your information, anyway, i was got 1007Be, that all performance for very prefect! It provide Hi-end and enough Bass!

And Denon 3808 was easy drive it!

Can I keep the LFE and low-level RCA inputs plugged in at the same time?

I would use LFE for home theater, and low-level RCA for pure audio. My A/V processor does an ADC-DAC conversion for music and I want to keep my audio path free of the additional processing.

Leaves me with no choice but to connect the sub in both ways, and I want to make sure I don't blow the sub in home-theater mode (i.e., with juice coming to the sub from both the LFE and low-level RCA inputs)

Hi, having an issue running Audyssey with my 826w. I keep getting a phase warning but I have them wired correctly. According to Audyssey FAQ this may be because of the speaker manufacturer internal design. Anyone experience this with thier Focals?

From Audyssey
It's actually a Phase Warning and not an error. It can be triggered by how the speaker interacts with the room and also due to intentional design decisions made by the speaker maker, particularly when there are multiple drivers involved. It is there to have you check the wiring on the back of the speaker and the back of the amp. If it is correct on both ends, then simply hit Skip and proceed. It has no effect on the resulting room correction filters.

As per my PM, just swap the inputs (red/black to black/red) to the 826Ws and then rerun Audyssey - the problem went away for me during testing.

Im leaning towards a Focal Chorus 836v and 800 series 5.1 setup, mainly for HT and some music. HT 80% music 20%

Amp choices:

Pio Elite SC-37
Denon AVR-4311
Marantz SR7005

Any suggestion would be much appreciated.
I'm using the sr7005 with the 826w and think it sounds great. Recently switched from an Onkyo and it was as if a veil was lifted from my Focals in terms of clarity especially in direct or 2 channel stereo modes.

im thinking of getting the marantz av7005 instead of the anthem mrx500 now, hhhmmm

I just purchased a set of Focal Electra 1027s fronts. I was wondering where I can grab a Focal Electra cc1000s or CC1000BE center for a good price. My local dealer is asking for $2500 and $3200. I think it is a bit too expensive. I checked audiogon already and I can't find one. If anyone has one for sell, please pm me.
cmchen0, if you have the time (and patience) I'd just wait until one comes for sale. It took me a while to find my Focals through the used market. Couldn't be happier...

I have 816S's, what center will get me a close match since I don't want to pay or spend the time looking for the matching one?

They are going to be hard to find I think. I bought one in a premium finish and it was in the higher end of what you quoted. I think the retail when new was close to $2700. I got one of the very last ones direct from the company itself.
Well, what do you know, I guess this just popped uphttp://www.audiogon.com/cgi-bin/cls....-cc-electra-10(edit-sold)
Even if it does not match your finish, mine does not, I would jump on that. I just re-read and I think, now reading it you are saying that you have the 1027s series, not Be series right? If I am right then you need a "S" center. If that is true then I think the price that dealer quoted you is way off base. This site http://www.tweakshop.com/1000S.html
has it listed for much less. They seem to be pretty accurate on retail pricing.

It probably runs more than I want to spend. This is just for a bedroom setup. My budget is under $200. Also I have the older model 816S's not the 816V.

What about Boston Acoustics VRC since it is under $200 and free shipping from onecall.com?

Using a Marantz receiver SR7005 the max power output on stereo bi-amping is 220w per speaker... do you think 826V fits better for a setup over 836V, since this last one may be harder to manage for this amp.

Bear in mind, recommended power for 836V is up to 300w, while for 826V is up to 250w. So im guessing with an amp that limited on power output, I may not get the benefit on the 836's over the 826's.

What do you think about?

I think that bi-amping a 7005 will not double the power to the speaker. In fact it may produce less power since you will be driving more of the amps.
Also think neither the 826 or 836 can be bi-amped.

I didnt say "double". I said 220w, you may check receiver specs if you doubt.

So, are you suggesting I can not take benefit of the rest of power from the receiver and get the most of both amp and speakers when on stereo mode? what a waste of resources and money in that case...
