Seeing as one of those quotes was directed at me, the 804's, Electra's and Alto's were all in the same room running from the same equipment, the speakers were just swapped out. I'm not sure of the exact model numbers but the CD player and integrated were some very expensive Sim Audio stuff and the speaker cables were Siltech, not sure which model though. I'm not sure what was used as interconnects. The Paradigm comparison was not done that day but based on my past experience of auditioning the S8 and the 804 Diamond in that room, my preference was actually the 804. At that time there was a 804S as well, I preferred the S8 over the 804S. So perhaps if I heard the S8 and the Electra together I may have to rescind my remarks in lumping them into the same category but both still lack that wow this takes things to the next level feeling I get from the Alto and 802's. If the Alto had the performance in the highs that the diamond has which is my preference then I would give the clear advantage to the Alto over the 802 due to a more complete package from top to bottom. I actually got to listen to the Alto again yesterday and I do really enjoy the mid range. I described it as fluid and warm earlier and that's still my impression but I would have to add musical to the description. It could end up being that over extended listening sessions I might tend to prefer the Alto rather than it being a toss up between it and the 802. On a side note the people who have heard the 802 and 800, those that hear a difference between them seem to always say that the mids in the 800's are much better then the 802's. If that's the case then maybe the 800's bring more fluidity than what I describe the 802 as having thus closing the differences to the Alto even more then in that case the Alto would be more of a competitor to the 800 I guess than the 802's. But since I haven't heard the 800 (yet) I can only use my 802 as the benchmark, such is life, limited to only what we have experienced. That will change in a few days as I will know how the 800 compares to the 802's, for my sake I hope I notice a difference, I bought the 800's unheard and unseen so it could turn out to be the biggest financial blunder I have ever made, I get sick thinking about it.
