Thought I'd throw my 2 cents in here. I got this set home today and have been playing with it for a while now. I'm able to get 1920 x 1080 @ 60hz resolution fine through my computer although I'm not sure whether or not it is running it as progressive. Before when I had my computer hooked up to my flat panel LCD, Nvidia controls had an option to treat it as a HDTV with various settings like 720P,1080I, etc ... I don't see that for this TV now that I'm hooked up through VGA instead of DVI.
I'm not a hi def guru so cant give you too much specifics, but DVD's off my hard drive playing in 1920 x 1080 through Nstant Media look nice, as does my older 480P JVC dvd player through component. Oblivion through my comp looked awesome ( though at that resolution I seemed to be lagging some, might be my computer... also didn't think to put it in game mode for my test ) and my PS2 looked pretty clean through component jacks. Comcast HD digital cable looks really good too, with or without the set top box ( again, through component and with the box set to 1080-I )
I don't have a DVI to HDMI cable at the moment, so haven't tried to hook my computer up that way to see if the nvidia controls would recognize it as a HDTV and give me 1080P as an option.
Brightness and colors seem ok to me, but I played with it some and haven't had my eyes calibrated lately. I'm a little short on cash at the moment, but if any calibration folks want to come play with one of these sets to give a professional opinion on them they'd be more than welcome. Not sure if there are any pros in the greater Seattle area...
The set definitely has a sweet spot in the vertical viewing angle as far are brightness. I sit about 8 to 10 feet or so from it and when I'm on the couch or in my computer desk chair its perfect, but I can see the variance as I stand up. From my kitchen counter, about 20 feet from the set, it isn't really noticable. From the side it doesn't seem as finicky, I have couches set diagonal across my room in a " V " shape towards the center of the room and with the center away from the TV. It seems watchable from all the seats, though it looks best in the middle of the room of course.
I have not seen any rainbows, but I don't believe I am overly affected by them since several of my friends have DLP's and it didn't bother me. As far as sound noise from the fans ... all I hear is my computer running as I type this and the set has been on for 5 or 6 hours now.
Advanced timing on my agp 7800GS card shows:
horizontal
front porch 48
back porch 80
Positive sync polarity
1920 active
32 sync width
66.65 khz scan rate
Vertical
front porch 3
back porch 23
Negative sync polarity
1080 active
sync width 5
59.990 refresh rate.
The box for interlaced mode is NOT checked, so I think that means it is running it in progressive. Someone more knowledgable than myself may be able to break those numbers down and tell us.
Also, there seemed to be some underscan when I tell it to auto adjust the picture under Setup and PC on the TV's menu, but resizing it and centering it with the P.Size button on the remote fixed it, and the TV is remembering it.
I don't have a camera, so no pics. Thats all I got for ya.
