Planar Xscreen for lit rooms

Hehe, I see someone else was reading Endaget this morning. I saw that and immediately jumped over here. I know that there were several people experimenting with mirrors and sheet glass in the DIY section also.

What's up with this XScreen from Planar? How come there's not a single review or personal account of this screen having been seen anywhere on the web? Seems a bit fishy to me.

I'd buy this for up to 4K in a heartbeat *if* it actually worked.

Anyone know what the real deal is?

It has been discussed here. People who have actually seen it are not impressed.

They also don't give one iota of real info on how it works or how well it works.

Too small for me, anyway.

Many thanks for the review link. In fact I have bought the Xscreen myself and it has really worked well in my livingroom where I cannot control ambient light (can only close curtains, and light still comes in anyway). Although the viewing cone is limited to approximately 45 degrees but hell, my couch and sofa are in front of the screen anyway so it doesn't really make a difference.

Sweet. Can you give us a review with screen shots? How well does it work. Do you know how different the viewing cone is from the Hipower? Do you have any other screens you can compare against? How big of a screen did you get? Where did you get it?

I live in the UK and purchased my 80" Xscreen with CSE solutions www.csesolutions.co.uk. I must say that it has replaced my living room Plasma quite comfortably and since I use it on a daily basis - watch cable, play games, etc etc, it really suits my life-style. Considering it looks like a plasma as well, I see it as a nice decor for the living room. As for the difference between the hi-power and the xscreen, I felt that the xscreen picture quality was much better both in the dark and in ambient light situations (although price is also quite a bit more). This is probably because the gain of the hi-power is 2.8 while the Xscreen is 2.0 which according to my dealer, a 2.0 gain is optimum. The 2.0 gain was also much better to watch in the dark because 2.8 was a bit too bright for me (at night). All in all I feel the Xscreen was very remarkable both in the dark and with ambient light.

The downside of the screen is that the viewing cone is around 45 degrees so the couch needs to be somewhat in front of the screen but I had no problems with this cause I normally watch from the front anyway. My 2 cents..

If anyone in the CT area wants to see a 100" Xscreen and a Planar 7130 projector, I would be happy to give a demo.

How can I get a demo in San Diego? I signed up to be contact on the Planar web site, but no love.

For current owners: can you ceiling mount with the XScreen? Most folks say that it must be mounted behind and *just* above the audience's heads.
