The Official 2006 KDS-R(XX)XBR2 STAND search...

After the success of my first ever thread "Sony A2000 vs XBR2" (thanks to you all), thought it was time for another one....and also because I need a little help...

Recently received an email from Texas Tapeworks with pictures of the new XBR2s WITH the new stand ......Enlarged the picture of the XBR2 and STAND and through a little rusty algebra was able to conclude that the dimensions will be (roughly) W 78.5" x H 14.5" x D 24".... obviously designed to accomodate the 70XBR2 but IMO WAY TOO BIG for the 60XBR2 (for those of us already near our space limit...(ie trying to put it in a corner without it sticking 4 feet out into the room ...)...did I mention that the new stand is RECTANGULAR not TRAPEZOIDAL like the XBR1 stands which were rather corner friendly.... ARGGHHHH! any suggestions on a corner friendly stand for the 60XBR2???

Discussions on any stands for the 60 or 70 are welcome, as well as links to where you found them.... heck, throw in some pics of your XBR1 or A2000 on a stand if you just want to show off! I believe all of this would help those of us looking for a stand....
Thanks Again!

Here is a pic of the stand recommended for the 60XBR1....my lovely girlfriend affectionately refers to it as the "Scarface stand"....too much glass and Miami Vice-ish "plasticky" silver....
Indeed corner friendly, and I'm assuming it would fit the XBR2, but after her conceding to my choice of "an obnoxiously large" TV (60XBR2), I have wisely allowed the veto on the Scarface stand... Didn't really love it anyhow....
open to all suggetsions! thanks again...

I have the recomended stand for the 60A2000. I dont know if its the same stand or not but the are some nice functions to it. It has little insets for the feet of the tv so that it fits exactly where its suppose to and guide holes in the back. It also has a strap on the back that clips into your tv so that it cant slide or fall over. It is about 18 inches tall so if you do get a different stand keep in mind the correct hieght for a 60 incher. The only thing that I dont really like about it is that there inst a whole lot of space on the shelves if you have more than 4 components like I do. It is a nice stand albeit overpriced a bit at $ 499. I just wanted the stand that matched and made the tv the correct height.

Do we know the footprint of the XBR2 yet?
I need to know if my center channel will fit. I need 8.5" high and 14" deep. I'm pretty sure the depth will be ok, but I've seen some of these stands where there is a support bar going down the back that halves the depth.

So lets get some basic information:

1.) you want something that will fit in a corner moderately well.

2.) Do you prefer tinted, clear, cmoked, or frosted glass?

3.) Do you have a needed height?

4.) Do you have a wanted layer/level? aka... is a three level stand okay, or do you want just one/two?

5.) what kind of material would you prefer?

6.) what color finish would you prefer? Is two tone okay? (wood with black acent, etc...)

Someone in another thread wondered if the old XBR1 stand (the one designed for a 60" set) would work with the new 60" XBR2 (which has an official stand designed for a 70" set). I thought that was a neat suggestion, though I'm not sure if the XBR2 footprint is the same or not.
Provided it's the same dimensions as the XBR1s, which it looks to be, we could just use the XBR1 stands which actually look good and fit the TV well.

I find this new stand to look too big, bulky, and obscenely unattractive...
This new XBR2 stand doesn't look like it has much of a WAF. I think it might look better with the 70XBR2 as the edges would probably line up with the ears.

I very much like my A2000 stand. It fits the 60" perfectly and is very secure. If you need extra height, you can remove the top glass shelf which leaves a lot of room. The rear has a large hole between the supports, so if you had a REALLY long center it can stick out the back.

Thanks,
Mike

Does anybody have the size of the base? I have looked on Sony's web site and just see the normal sizes listed.

XRR2, just the base.

Thanks

this stand isn't too bad.

I'll be using a Wood-tech MGV63 stand for my 60" XBR2

anyone have any links to or info on the actual footprint dimensions for the 60"XBR2?
thanks

I like the look of the 70XBR2 without side speakers, but I think the Sony stand is really ugly. I found this elegant stand (click here for BDI stand website) in gloss black which matches the glossy appearing bezel of the 70. It also has a center shelf which the Sony stand does not have. The website has a smaller version of this stand for 60" sets.

Here's a Photoshop composite image:

Yup, that's the one I'm getting for the 70" XBR2 - someone posted that in another thread. It's only 19" high, but the adjustable middle shelf means most center channels will still fit. Kind of pricey, but at least it looks good.

i really like the 9639 they have in esspresso with the frosted top. it mathces most of my other tables perfectly. i'll probably get this for the 60.

After reviewing the two stands side-by-side, my opinion is the new stand, SURS51U, does not look as nice as the SUGW12. I called Sony and they "thought" the SUGW12 would work with either the XBR1 or XBR2. On my way to buy the SUGW12 stand for $299 at ABC Warehouse. Thanks for posting the pictures of them.

If you are cheap, here's a stand at BB that should work. I used a less deep version for my 60A200. Rough specs: 58Wx23Hx25D with rear corners "clipped" about half-way deep. Silver and glass. Holds 200 lbs TV, 50lbs per shelf. Three devices on each of two open glass shelves beneath. It pretty much matches Sony silver. $300 list.

trobinson71,

I am in the same boat as you. I more than likely have to consider putting it in a corner, but having it stick out 4 feet is absurd. Have you or anyone else considered putting it off-center in the corner so you can push it back more? I know it sounds like a stupid question, but I am interested in the answer, and waiting for news of these tvs has me going

paddlefoot-
the off-center thing won't work for me....i'm a very symmetric type 'o guy
balance in all things, grasshopper....this is the way....
found a few stands that may work I'll put a post with links together soon....

I purchased one of the few SUGW12 stands left (13 left in the warehouse) last night for $340 + tax. This was the best price I could find anywhere. I'm double-checking with Sony that it will work with the KDS-R60XBR2. If you are considering this stand, you may want to buy it now before they are no longer available. Thanks for the pics of the new stand, it helped me to decide now.

Has anyone obtained the dimensions for where the XBR2's pedestal sits on the new SU-RX51U stand? I'm trying to determine if the indented area on the top of the stand is the same as the SUGW12 stand. The specs for the XBR2 dimensions are exactly the same width and depth as the XBR1 (1674 mm and 514 mm respectively). Only the Height has changed from 1009 mm to 1016 mm). This leads me to believe that the XBR2 pedestal size may be identical to the XBR1. I'm planning to use the XBR2 with the SUGW12 stand. No one at Sony seems to be able to answer this question yet...Also, why is the SU-RX51U the same stand for both the 60XBR2 and 70XBR2? It seems the 60 inch model would require a smaller stand.
