Does anyone have a template available or know where I can locate one? Is it possible that someone here who might possess one, have a full sized copy made and sent to me. I certainly would cover any expense involved as well as any reasonable compensation for doing this. I have two sets of the Ultima Embrace already but I really need the template for a home builder. I'm located in Florida. A response would be greatly appreciated. Regards, Kim

There is a person selling a pair including the templates on Audiogon. Maybe they would help you out.

Kim,

Thanks for the kind words. It was no problem at all. I have been an AVS member for many years and have found that most of the members are very helpful.

Something is happening in the Revel upper series speakers (salons2, studios2 and gems2), several dealers are selling their stocks in Audiogon now..... Something is coming soon ..... Series 3 maybe?

Yeah, I've picked up a pair of Salon2's and a Voice2 that were dealer demo's off of Audiogon. Great deals to be had, but I've wondered if something's coming down the pike. However, I wonder how much better they could be than the current Ultima2 offerings. And with the prices that I got my Revels at, which look brand new and are already broken in, I'm glad I'm in the market to upgrade to Revels now.

I doubt it. The Performa line is older and would probably be replaced first. Look at the stuff the Revel just brought out - a refresh of their much older architectural line.

With the rough economy dealers are struggling. Stocks of these high end speakers represent critical working capital that may be financed. Selling them allows you to use the money to stay afloat.

Take advantage of the good prices if you can. There is a lot of used/demo stuff going at bargain basement prices, not just Revels.

Hard to find Revel dealer though. I searched their site for Dallas, and didn't find much, some installer shops, but had difficulty identifying a dealer with speakers set up to audition. I'd like to hear F12 and F32.

I picked up a pair of new gem2s with stands for $5950 in January. Haven't taken them out of their boxes yet as been too busy at work but was happy at that price. Needed to move back to stand mounts for smaller room as my older Studio (v1) wouldnt work in new space.

Now works quietened down, I've been thinking about updating my front end electronics as I've seen some good prices around recently. Currently have Bel Canto Ref1000's and a Meridian 861 (v4) driven by a Sonos front end (the Meridian digital buffering helps a lot!) but not sure I really "need" to.

As you say, if you have money and security, its a buyers market right now

Man, I would have opened them babies right up. 9 months, you have some serious willpower.

Audio Concepts had Revel in Dallas but I don't see it on their website. I think maybe they replaced them with Wilson. My guess is that high end audio shops are fewer and fewer as time goes on, with the slow economy accelerating the process. There isn't good news on anything relating to music, whether it be the diminishing number of clubs to hear live music, orchestras in financial trouble, slowing recorded music sales, the demise of Telarc for classical music http://www.avguide.com/blog/the-last-days-telarc, etc.

Anyone know the sales numbers for Revel compared to other speaker manufacturers? I'm guessing they are pretty small.

All the best,
gtrman

I've noticed over the last 2 years Revels, JBL Everest II being sold online. And that was never seen before. I've seen Salon2 going for as low as $12,000/pr, and the Everest II as low as $22,000/ea, just this week.

High end shops are most certainly disappearing. When I was still living in NW Nevada, I had to go to SF to audition the Salon2/Gem2. And they were the only models that dealer had for audition.

In the world of audio, more and more, people are buying speaker systems, w/o an audition first. Something unheard of only a couple of decades ago. Which is always the case with ID brands, and Harman brands are becoming the same way, buy first, then audition.

Whoa - I'm going to CES!!

I'm supposed to be going to see all the new hi-tech devices like tablets and phones. But hopefully, I'll be able to get over to the hi-fi stuff too and Revel (of course).

If you think about it, this sales strategy seems right in line with harman's mantra... "the measurements speak for themselves" etc.

It's nice to see them still standing amongst all the economic upheaval that's gone on over the last few years. Hope they can hang in there.

You aren't kidding. Just put together a new system consisting of:

Revel Salon 2s that were used for a whopping three weeks by someone who found his "Holy Grail" speakers immediately thereafter;

Plinius M8 pre-amp, barely used;

Plinius SB-301 power amp, dealer demo;

Ayre C-5xeMP dealer demo; and

custom Furutech interconnects, speaker cables and power cords.

Total cost to me: just under $26K. Total list: just under $50K.

There are of course warranty issues vis-avis the Plinius pre-amp and the Salon 2s, i.e. I don't have any. But I'm less than 100 miles away from Revel's Massachusetts facility, so at least if something blows I can box 'em up and get them there without shipping.

But if you are liquid and don't mind assuming a little risk for used equipment, now is absolutely the time to strike. I was told by the guy who sold me the Plinius power amp that business is starting to pick up for him out in LA, so I wouldn't count on the current doldrums lasting forever. There are all kinds of values on Audiogon to be had, as well as dealer demo bargains.

I am kind of interested what people would consider an optimal distance to be seated from Salon 2's, given the high tweeter height. I realize there is no absolute correct answer.

I currently have a pair of salon 2's for L/R, and 3 Studio 2's for C/SR/SL duty. I may ultimately try a Salon 2 for the center, but that is a separate question. In my current room of about 25 x 13, I have them along the long wall. I am only 5'6", so I am actually sitting too close to the speakers I think. But I am moving to a new house and the system will go into a larger room, about 35 x 19', which will give me more room to play in. Probably it will be most convenient to set up the front speakers along the short wall in the new room.

So I am wondering how far you have the back of your Salon 2s from the front wall, and how far you sit from the front of the Salons 2s. To get the best depth of imaging and to deal with the high tweeter axis and multiple drivers.

I will probably set up the speakers and then decide what to do about a display. I have a 60" Kuro currently, but may go to a projector setup in the new room.

Being your new room will be 35' long, might as well setup the Salon2 right. When I auditioned them in SF they had them at least 8' out from the back wall. I know it was farther than I had my system, which was 4.5' out.
And with 19' width you will be able to have them at least 5' from the side walls, which is the distance I had in a 17.5' wide room.

As for the seating, I'd say no closer than 10'. Which would give you a 9 x 10 x 10 triangle if you place the Salons 5' from the side walls. The more room you give the Salon2, the bigger the soundstage, both depth and width. Sitting 12' back would not be too far. I'd say you don't want the Salons any closer to the side walls than 4'.
In the case of that dealer in SF, they had the Voice2 just out in front of the wall mounted flat panel.

Thanks for your help. I thought I wanted the Salon2s quite a bit out from the back wall, to maximize stage depth. The only issue is the further back I go, the bigger I will have to go with the display once I set that up. Interesting they put the center close to the front wall, I would think you would want it equidistant along with the right and left speakers.

As for the screen, I had a 65" rp HD and I sat between 10~12 back. Depending on the screen size, either place it on a stand and bring it forward, or if really large then wall mounted.
One weekend I pushed my main L/R out from 4.5 ft to 8 ft and pushed back the seat by the same difference. Which in that room, placed the seat inline with an 8'-8" x 7'-0" archway (the archway was 20 ft back from the end wall). On certain recordings, the soundstage got to be quite deep. Other recordings, it had no affect.

As for the placement of the center it makes no difference. All AVRs, pre/pros set the distances from the main seat with the channels set in pairs, except for the center channel.
