I recommend subwoofers that are actually based on tower speaker bass. For example, the RBH SX-1010N sub is actually just the dual 10" woofers portion from the $15K RBH T-30 tower. So imagine taking just that portion from the tower and using it as a sub. You get bass that is as tight, punchy, fast, accurate, and most importantly MUSICAL as the bass from the tower itself. Bass that does not sound like subwoofer bass, but like tower speaker bass, except just more quantity of bass and same quality of bass.
And since everyone believes that all amps sound differently
, you can use your own high quality amps for the subwoofer and not be limited to a class-D pro plate amp stuffed inside the sub cabinet.
For high quality amps for both speakers and subs, I recommend ATI. They make amps for the likes of Mark Levinson, Lexicon, JBL Synthesis, Cary Audio, Theta Digital. So if you believe in "synergy"
, then ATI amps are very "synergistic" with Harman speakers.
The ATI AT2000 & AT3000 fully balanced amps would be great. You can get those ATI amps for much lower prices than retail from a nice dealer.
I use high quality ATI amps for all my RBH SX-1010N and Funk Audio 18.0 passive subs, and man, these subs sound incredibly MUSICAL as if the bass came from the Salon2s themselves, except with more quantity of bass, of course.
