Which Panny display is better.

The Panasonic 50PHD8UK or the Panasonic TH50PX60U?

I have the opportunity to trade my 60U in for the 8UK. Like most I love the look of the 8UK. My concern is the whether or not the picture quality is better on the 9th generation 60U. I’m also concerned with image retention.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Interesting question as I am just about ready to buy the Panasonic TH-50PX60U myself.

I ultimately decided to stay away from the commercial Plasma's, but I do know that many prefer them over the retail units like the 60U.

I have a 60U and have not seen the 8UK, so I can't answer your primary question. But here are a few things you will lose going to the 8UK:

- The tuner
- The ability to stretch/zoom 720p and 1080i content.
- Built-in HDMI inputs
- Included stand
- 1 yr in-home warranty

The big gains, AFAIK, are:

- Better looks
- More configurability
- VGA input
- Settings remembered per input

Good luck with the decision!

I do not think I would trade a 9th gen panel for an 8th gen, but that's just me.

PQ is improved, but only marginally. The 8UK is infinitely more adjustable.
Image retention is equal (essentially non-existant) on both.
