Bulk music transcoding?

I have a bunch o' music stored on my system as FLAC... I'd like to convert to WMA Lossless as well so that I can use multiple devices without having to rip again.

Are there any tools that I can use to convert between these. Likely, I'll have to use a .WAV intermediate file which doesn't bother me in the least.

XP Pro and I do have J River Media Center if that matters.

Cheers,

Someone just posted this link in another thread, so I haven't tested the app...but it looks like it will do bulk conversion:

John-

I think you can do this with J.River Media Center 11. I've used it to convert from flac to WMA lossless, but I never tried saving the original file.

After you select the tracks form the library, pick 'Tools/Library Tools/Convert Format...' from the pulldown menus (or just right click on the tracks and pick 'Library Tools/Convert Format...'). Then pick the 'Options' button within the Convert Files dialog box. Make sure the radio box for "Send original file to the Recycle Bin" is NOT set. Then specify the location you want for the WMA Lossless file and pick 'OK'. Then make sure you have the new format set to WMA Lossless and pick 'Start'.

Greg,

Thanks... I'll try that after I'm done moving Audio from spindle to spindle.

I love this era of cheap disk space

what were you wanting to play the music on that you need to duplicate your collection for?
as I will be re-ripping my collection to FLAC.

I have a Roku Photobridge, as well as a Receiver and other devices...

Rip once, transcode multiple times

As an FYI, J River is doing a great job on ripping, not so great on the bulk transcoding. So I'm going to try one of the other suggested tools.

John-
FYI, wondered how you stored your surround music. And what do you think about the new Fraunhofer MP3 surround. I've been ripping all my DTS CD's into this format for playback on my HTPC at 256kbps via the winamp plugin.

I second this recommendation. It has support for bulk conversion. Plus, it integrates itself seemlessly into Windows (highlight files in Windows, right-click, and select convert!). Plus it also supports FLAC.
