that the same movie i saw so many years ago?

Yep, that's the one.

Seems no one who saw it as a kid forgot it.

I saw this movie when it came out and was riveted. It is like a equel to Gallipoli and focuses on the campaigns during WWI and Bersheba. The last part of the movie will have your neck hair raised during the famous charge against the machine guns of the turks. I had to buy it from Hong Kong on ebay because no dvd is out yet and my vhs copy died. The reviews on ebay about PQ are over stated, it's definitely very watchable and is directed by Simon Wincer.

I don't know if it's been mentioned (did a search and no results), but Swimming Pool is an excellent movie.

Yeh, I put Happy Accidents on my Netflix queue because of this thread and watched it last week. It was very good. Marisa Tomei of course is easy on the eyes as well. The story was well done and both of the lead actors did a great job. It reveals just enough as you go to make the ending work.

that was a great movie in the theater - I saw that one in one of those artsy theaters back around early 1980s. I'm not sure how good of a movie it is, alot of its appeal was its cinematography. I thought Gallipoli was better (only saw it on TV/DVD/VHS).

Saint and Solders was a good flick but not exactly unknown - it got nominated for several awards at the time.

i think maybe a movie like the original (not the crap re-make - shoot James Cain please) "Lathe of Heaven" staring Bruce Davison (of "Ben" fame) should be nominated for the best unknown and little scene movie.

.............

or to get artsy fartsy - the works of Frederic Back ("Man who Planted Trees/ Crac/The Mighty River") fame. they often say the artist is never appreciated while he is still living, sadly this seems to be a truth.

"patterns" - Rod Serling's first movie is another one that few have scene and is hard to find. the master archive is poor and it is a test of will to watch the movie due to its scratches and blurryness, but it is one of the best movies I've seen, and Rod Serling was an unappreciated God in movie making my opinion. Stared Van Heflin(sp).

"Thursday" with mickey rourke, thomas jane and aaron eckhart. Great and really rare, hard to find movie(someone bids 250$ on dvd in ebay), but someone made man's work and put it on youtube.

An Australian movie from a few years back, The Castle, is my favorite comedy of all time.

Found 'Outsourced' by accident while browsing Netflix & found it to be quite a funny little cross-cultural romantic-comedy. For the most part, the movie doesn't feel forced & has a satisfying ending. If you enjoyed 'Monsoon Wedding', 'Bend it Like Beckham' & similar movies, you may enjoy this one. Good Bollywood soundtrack as well.

Thanks, I'll have to check it out; 'Monsoon Wedding' was excellent, as was 'Bend it Like Beckham'!

I watched Outsourced (I think via watch instantly on my TivoHD). It was a cute movie, worth a watch as long as you're in the mood for it. Sometimes "cute" doesn't cut it.

Some of the recent posts have mentioned movies that I like a lot, including The Spanish Prisoner, House of Games, and the thoroughly charming Bend it Like Beckham. As some of you know, I am a big David Mamet fan, so my fondness for The Spanish Prisoner and House of Games should come as no surprise. I fell in love with the then very young Keira Knightly as a result of her luminous performance in Bend it Like Beckham. She has already been nominated for one Oscar and I will be surprised if she doesn't end up winning at least one.

Here are three of my favorite off-beat movies that grow on you:

Bagdad Cafe (Out of Rosenheim)
http://us.imdb.com/title/tt0095801/

Death to Smoochy
http://us.imdb.com/title/tt0266452/

Down with Love
http://us.imdb.com/title/tt0309530/

October Sky
http://us.imdb.com/title/tt0132477/

I've watched these movies dozens of times and they have become old friends, getting better with age.

I liked Bagdad Cafe a lot, too. It was a strange but interesting little film and the seldom seen German actress, Marianne Sägebrecht, was a delight. I also liked October Sky. It was a terrific story, based on Homer Hickman's memoir of the same name and rarity of rarities, the movie did the book justice.

I was not terribly impressed with Down with Love. It seemed to me to be just one more Renée Zellweger romantic comedy, with all that implies. I haven't seen Death to Smoochy but may give it a shot based on your recommendation.

gwsat - I hope you like Death to Smoochy. It's definitely off-beat, and not for everyone. Approach it with an open mind, and I'll keep my fingers crossed.

I love Death for Smoochy. Ed Norton really can do comedy as well as he can do drama. He's great in this one, as are almost all the folks in this one. Some people really hate it, but I think it's hilarious. Robin Williams is great as the deranged ex-host.

Boiler Room for a great performance by vin Diesel who went in the wrong direction with his career after this.

+1 to Salton Sea. My favorite Kilmer flick after Real genius.
+1 on the Apostle.

Have to add this one:
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0101458/
Until the End of the World.

And this one:
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0255195/
The Goddess of 1967, can't say much on the audio but the visuals are in full effect.

Finally, this one moved into my Top 10 of 1000 very near the top:
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1183252/
Chocolate. I was blown away by this movie. Up there with Old Boy and as touching as I am Sam, seriously. A child and the unconditional love for a parent. Very nice indeed.

That was good, but I also loved him in Spartan...If you have not seen it, it is a must see.

Someone mentioned The Last Seduction, but I'll second it.
I'll add The Underneath and Lantana

"The Heart is a Lonely Hunter" (1968), a bit more serious than some of the above. Alan Arkin (Little Miss Sunshine) as a deaf mute, who's silent kindness draws others broken in body and spirit. With Cicely Tyson (The Autobiography of Miss Jane Pittman) and Percy Rodrigues (Star Trek: The Original Series - Court Martial episode). Movie debuts of a teen-age Sandra Locke (Every Which Way But Loose) and Stacey Keach (Mike Hammer). Well worth the watch.

Bringing Up Baby is my favorite movie and was very popular in its day but this generation mostly hasn`t heard of it. I ran into someone the other day who didn`t know who Cary Grant was.

Difficult to say if you've heard of these movies but here goes:

Two danish movies, not sure how they are subtitled/dubbed etc.

Festen (The Celebration): http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0154420/
Tragic and funny at the same time.

I Kina spiser de hunde (In China They Eat Dogs): http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0180748/
More or less a action packed comedy.

Fire in the sky: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0106912/
Off beat UFO movie.

Gleaming the cube: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0097438/
I'm not really a scater but liked this movie as a kid and still like it.

Pump up the volume: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0100436/
Another Christian Slater movie I really like.

The Signal: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0780607/
Weird zoombie movie

La sirène rouge: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0254775/

I'll add more if I can think of them.
