Has anyone tried the new firmware update (0044). What is it for?

I and a few others have updated to the 0044 FW without issue. We have yet to see any Yamaha documentation as to what this FW update provides in improved features or functions (which is quite odd).

Some are reporting that the only "improvement" they see is a very slight speed increase in Networking GUI and Internet Radio buffering, and they are only guessing to this perceived improvement. I don't use the Networking function and I cannot see any buffering speed increase in Internet Radio use.

Previous FW updates (prior to 0044 FW) included fixes or improvements for Networking with WMP11 and SACD LFE issues.

I need a little help, if i have hdmi in (both d.v.d. and cable) into the 2700 why would the setup menu for hdmi (through, 1080i, 720 ect.) and hdmi aspect be grayed out on the setup menu. Is it the way I have it connected or do I have the settings wrong on the 2700 or my cable box.

Thanks for any help.

Your cable box should provide you with the ability to show all of the formats its supports and your TV supports. If its a Scientific Atlanta, turn the box off and then Press Info & Guide at the same time to set up your box. this should allow pass through the 2700 ( assuming you do not have IT doing any scaling) right to the TV. The TV will find the signal and make the correct selection based on what is being broadcast.

I have HDMI out of the cable box, into the 2700 HDMI #1 "IN" for the TV. The onscreen selection for TV as HDMI #1... no upscaling. I take the HDMI OUTPUT of the 2700 and feed it into the HDMI input of the TV.

Thanks Mikl. By any chance, do you have any further info or docs regarding the 0044 update? I have seen nothing from Yamaha about this update.

Mikl provided the FW Update link in this post:
http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showp...postcount=4182

However, there is no Yamaha documentation with this update (what it is, what it fixes, how to install, etc..). Here are the FW Update instructions as per the Yamaha document included in the previous 0038 FW Update:

INSTALLATION DIRECTIONS:
1. Connect the power cable of the main unit to the AC outlet.
2. Please make sure that the MASTER ON/OFF switch is turned OFF.
3. Press the MASTER ON/OFF key of the main unit while simultaneously
pressing the STRAIGHT key of the main unit. Then the ADVANCED SET-UP
mode is activated.
4. Press the NIGHT key of the main unit for about 5 seconds.
5. Turn the PROGRAM know to select USB.
6. Press the NIGHT key on the main unit.
7. Insert the USB flash memory to the USB terminal of the main unit. (Writing of the
firmware is started. It takes about 10 seconds before the writing is started.)
8. When writing of the firmware is completed, the power of the main unit turns
OFF/ON automatically and back to the normal mode.
NOTE:
The Firmware Update process will take approximately 45 minutes to complete. Once the update is
complete, the receiver will shut down and then power back on by itself to show completion of the update.

FIRMWARE VERIFICATION CONFIRMATION:
To verify the firmware version, please follow the listed steps below.
1. Please make sure that the MASTER ON/OFF switch is turned OFF.
2. Press the MASTER ON/OFF key of the main unit while simultaneously
pressing the STRAIGHT key of the main unit. Then the ADVANCED SET-UP
mode is activated.
3. Wait 2 minutes while the receiver processes the firmware version.
4. Hold down the Enhanced Button for approximately 5 seconds.

NOTE: I'd suggest you do the FW verification first, write down your current version, then check again after updating.

The same time yamaha announced a lot of updates for old lines x61/x700 with name "YPAO test tone may become excessively loud "
Due to wrong addresses there are exist description for 1700 series, but not for 2700
Check it

But changes were in all 5 sections of FW

What is it you are having trouble with? FW Update? Self Diagnostics adding SCII and AAC? Or just plain Dolby not working on a particular source?

Not displaying Dolby Digital on front reciever panel from any source. It did it once (in big letters across front of display) for some reason with cable but on rebooting reciever it went away. I assume if it does not say DD on front it's not playing in DD. I usually keep it in streight PCM or "movie standard". I'm trying to get the least processed sound from surround signals, cable, blue ray etc. I notice that streight PCM is only 2 channel

Make sure your remote slider is in AMP position, then press #6 (Sur. Decode).
If the source is truly DD the front panel will display Dolby Digital and all five speakers will light.
If the source is two ch., the front panel will display PLII and only two speakers will light. You can press #7 (SELECT) to go through the various surround programs.

It's up to you
If you are not tester, install the latest one

This update seems to cure the out of phase detection. Hard to say for sure, but I did not get that error like I usually do.

It still detects speakers I think should be small as large.

For most CE devices FW Updates are almost always complete FW versions with all previous updates & fixes included. The units existing FW is completely wiped out (erased) and the FW Update (new FW) is then loaded.

I think K052/L047/4.1r is the FW result after running the 0038 FW Update so it looks like you have a later FW than the 0038 that Yamaha is sending you.

The 0044 FW should read: R061/L047/4.5r

I really don't get it.

It is on AMP. Here is MY remote. Maybe they made different ones for the 2700. The numbers don't corralate with mine.

This is one I found on the net. The markings are different.
The second remote is mine. I'm surprised they shipped different remote versions with the 2700.

There must be a button on your remote that allows you to scroll through the various DSP's (PLII Movie, PLII Music, Neo Movie, Neo Music, CSII Movie, CSII Music, etc....) when a 2ch source is input. Maybe pressing DECODE several times??

There is a way to overlay a DSP on a DD source, but I've never tried that.

I wonder if your remote is even the correct remote as it has a BD/HD DVD button for an AVR that does not do BD/HD DVD decoding?
Did you buy this 2700 new and unopened? Used? Open box? Demo?

EDIT: You got the wrong remote. You have the RX-V3800 remote. Note the "3D DSP" button, that's an 1800/3800 feature, not a 1700/2700 feature. I just checked both European & US manuals for each of 2700 & 3800 and the manual remote diagrams show the same remote for both regions.
Both 2700 manuals show my remote, both 3800 manuals show your remote.

Your RAV369 model remote is deffinately for the RX-V3800, see list of all Yamaha remote model #'s by AVR model #'s):
You will have to select AC Receivers from the drop down list.

Yeah, mine is the RAV362 and my AVR unit is US model. What is the difference between the 362 & 363? Both are mentioned in many locations but (based on poor quality online pics) I cannot see a difference in buttons?
Difference is XM & RDS button's names only
Please double check in SM (posted recently here)

THANKS for the help.
