I need help understanding and setting up the zone 2 & 3 outputs for remote speakers
. I am not a novice by any standard, but this situation has me stumped.
I find myself on the other side of the fence for change!
I own a 2700, which until recently was used solely as a 5.1 HTR, Paradigm front, center, surrounds, AV123 MFW-15 Sub, Oppo 983 DVD, SA 8300 Box , everything via HDMI and Kimber 8TC for speaker wiring.
To insure none of gear was damaged during my move from New York, I temporarily set up a the system to listen and view it in the family room using a 5.1 setup with cables running all over the place to temporarily placed speakers. I popped a copy of the EAGLES "FAREWELL TOUR" into the OPPO and got into the groove....Everything worked as it should.
I moved to new larger home which the former owner wired the Living & Dining room with pairs of Advent built -in wall speakers, controlled by individual Niles rheostats to control the audio level. I have tested the wall speakers using a tone generator and the FM signal from a Sansui G901 Receiver. The speakers are operating correctly and Niles volume control functions correctly.
Following the 2700's manual, I attached room one to zone SP1 and room two to zone SP2 speaker terminals. On the GUI I set the amps to INTERNAL, Room one to ZONE SP1, Room two to ZONE SP2.
The source was the audio from the OPTICAL output of my DISH Network 722K DVR cable box playing Sirius satellite 2 channel audio via the Flat Screen speakers (at the moment- Wife acceptance factor intervening over Paradigm/sub placement in the family room). I tested the Optical cable in another setup and it passed muster. So the cable isn't the issue.
When I selected the DBS/SAT as the source for SP1 or even SP2, NO AUDIO was produced! I tried using just one zone at a time and still no sound.
What am I doing wrong or missing? Shouldn't I be able to select an input which has a viable source and sent that out to SP1 or SP@ just by turning those amps on in the GUI and use the small remote to control them?
The main amps were shut off during these trials.
Today I will try to use the Coaxial output from the SAT BOX, and feed that signal to the COAX input of the 2700 and use the Yammies main amps feeding the Remote speakers to see what happens in that configuration.<<<</b> Here is an update since I wrote the above request. I hooked up the both sets of remote speakers independently to the main Left & Right front channels and used the Tuner output to feed them. they worked just fine and the Niles level control did its job. So now I'm certain the 2700 is capable of feeding the background music speakers in the Living & Dining room.
However, when I again tried to use the signal from the Optical output of the Satellite box to any of the optical inputs of the 2700, still no sound whether I used the main channel amps or the SP1 /SP2 amps.
Frustrated in Colorado---
I'm confident that TOBY10 or my neighbor MichaelJHuman among others will have the solution!
