The Official Yamaha RX-V1700/RX-V2700 Thread - Page 176

I purchased a rx v2700 replacing my Pioneer Elite vsx21. Now my question is does this receiver need to be on if I just want to watch T.V. with no surround sound? I got it hooked up thru hdmi to my Direct tv. I would appreciate any help. Thanks
post #5252 of 5350
Yes, the the 1700/2700 must be on to pass any signal. It has no "passive" signal ability.

Ok...thanks for the reply

I'm thinking about purchasing a Yamaha rx-v2700 for around £200 with a box manual etc. Works perfectly. Just wondering if its a good receiver and worth the price I'm paying?

Plan to use the receiver for sound mostly. Video connection will be directly between source. Feel the receiver is out dated in the video quality department.. Since it mainly for sound to power 5 Bose cube speakers and a passive bass module from an AM6ii. I feel its more than enough to power the speakers and a big jamo speaker.

Should I go for it?

so choices are
Demon AVR 4306 - £299
Onkyo tx-sr807-300tx-sr807- £300
Yamaha RX V2700 - £200
Yes, I think it is a great AVR for that price, especially for your stated usage (bypassing video on AVR). In fact, it's really overkill for the lowly Bose cubes. But will work fine.

Pretty amazing actually. After all these years the 2700 still fetches a decent price on the used market ($300 US approx). Still using mine almost a decade later as my main AV system/hub with no need nor interest in upgrading. It just keeps on playin'!

Enjoy! smile.gif

Great, cheers for the input. Just what I needed to hear.

Decided on the yamaha then. Will be picking it up tomorrow and Looking forward to enjoying it. Only Wish I signed up here earlier, would have saved me allot of time and money.

Unfortunately I wasn't well aware of Bose products until recently, learnt allot. As my first proper sound system I'm sure I'll be happy since I'll be upgrading from a 10 year old technics hi-fi . good for now. At least I know where to come next time I need help deciding. Keep it up gents!

Talk soon

Might be able to sell your Bose cubes for the same (if not more) than what it would cost to replace them for much better speakers. You can buy the Energy Take 5 Classic 5.1 system new for $350, which will outperform the Bose cubes by a long shot!
Thanks for the advice. Will keep that in mind for the future. Very tempted to sell. I'll prob keep for a while as I've made the effort getting it now.

Anyway the seller turned down the yamaha offer right at the end as she only wanted cash which Gabe me reason to believe something wasn't right all of this after she refunded my PayPal. Strange people.

So I have finnaly bitten the bullet and bought a demon 4306. Hope I made the right choice

Have a good week end everyone

I do own a RX-V2700 and have some questions regarding its HDMI compatibility.

Is the receiver able to handle/forward HDMI 1.3 and 1.4 signals?

As I know at least 1.3 is needed for 3D.

Which one is the newest firmware for the 2700?

regards,

alexander

No, it will not pass 3D signals. Best is to get a dual HDMI out BD player (one to TV, one to 2700 for audio). Or an HDMI splitter.

Current FW is 0044.
FIRMWARE VERIFICATION CONFIRMATION:
To verify the firmware version, please follow the listed steps below.
1. Make sure that the MASTER ON/OFF switch is turned OFF.
2. Press the MASTER ON/OFF key of the main unit while simultaneously
pressing the STRAIGHT key of the main unit. Then the ADVANCED SET-UP
mode is activated.
3. Wait 2 minutes while the receiver processes the firmware version.
4. Hold down the Enhanced Button for approximately 5 seconds.

many thanks for your reply!

so my firmware is already the latest one.

what about using an optical toslink cable for audio?

Toslink for audio is fine, with two caveats....
1. Does player support HDMI out to TV and Toslink to AVR simultaneously?
2. You will only get lossy (standard DVD audio) from HD/Blu-ray media, no HD/hi-res lossless audio.

My brother got given one of these Yamaha RX-V2700 receivers by a mate who claimed it stopped putting out sound.
It still functioned but according to him just no sound on any speakers (not sure if he ever tried the headphone socket)
Anyway my brother is not really interested in it and wanted to give it to me but he's taken it to a mate of his first who's a electronics repair guy
Just wondering if you have heard of this problem before or not
Hopefully it's an easy fix
Any recommendations appreciated

Hard to say why an AVR just won't play audio. Could be any number of things. Amps, relays, fuses, solder joints, board, etc..
Over driven, crossed wires, electrical strike..... may be fried or just in a self protection mode. Could even be the user tried custom settings and switched around the input assignments. Who knows.

But I'd start with doing a Factory Reset and then Self Diagnostics as per the Service Manual.

Hi, I have inherited an rx v2700 with the remote control missing. I would like to set up zones 2&3 using the sp1&2 internal amps. Normally this would be done via the GUI, but the GUI needs the remote to drive it. I have tried the yamaha av controller app, but this is not compatible with the rx v2700. Any ideas please?
You could use the Receiver Manager application if you have a PC with a serial port. It gives you access to all the settings. The serial cable needs to be the NULL modem (crossover) variety. There's probably a link to the application somewhere in this thread, but if you can't find it I have it somewhere.
Thanks Krik, this sounds like what I need. The only links that I can find to this software are out of date. Could you, or anyone else, upload the software or email to me please?
The latest version of RM that I know of for the 1700 is 1.02. I can upload that tonight, unless someone else has a newer version.
OK, here's the latest RM I have for the 1700. There's some documentation included, but it's a fairly intuitive program.

RcvMgr1700.v1.02.zip 1413k .zip file

That post says nothing actually. It als contains some links of closed websites.

Are there any release notes ? Why Yamaha doesn't provide a link for a firmware ...

Anyway thanks.

It answers your main questions, whether your FW is up to date, what was updated, where to obtain it (Yamaha). You can search this or other forums for "0044" to hopefully find a newer link to the actual FW. Or I can email you the 0044 update with instructions, it's about 5 mb's.

I would appreciate an email with the files.

Many thanks

Yeah, just checked mine, same error. I never use the 2700 for internet radio anymore so I had not tried it in ages. Tried contacting both Yamaha and vTuner?

We (there is another thread in a german hifi forum) did contact vTuner and Yamaha, vTuner support today said:

Quote:
We have forwarded the issue to our Team and they are currently checking the old devices of Yamaha.
Thank you for informing us, and we apologize for the inconvenience.

Some of us traced the traffic between the Yamaha devices and radioyamaha.vtuner.com so we could see that something happens, but not what´s wrong. Maybe it´s a "IIS/ASP thing" the older devices don´t understand - most important thing, it works again!

It could be helpful, if other Users with vTuner problems also contact vTuner and Yamaha support.
