Everyone,

can you tell me if the logitech Z5500 will decode TrueHD 5.1. it supports DD/DTS decoding. there are inputs for 6 channel direct, will it work with X/A1?

after looking around a bit, it looks like the logitech will do DD+ and TrueHD if the toshiba does the decoding. I just need RCA to mini jacks for the discrete outputs on the toshiba.

I'm curious about this myself. I'm guessing it wouldn't since there are three jacks (one for the fronts, one for the rears and one for the sub) instead of 5. It would be great if it could though since I already have the system and find it to be more than enough for my current needs.

Three 2 RCA-to-mini cables should work just fine. The audio gets sent straight to the amp.

yep .. and choose the "6 channel Direct" function for "input"

I have the Logitech and it works great with the Tosh. I don't use the Logitech speakers though and changed them out for Athena. The Logitech sub is a bit mushy but does the job. I have pc, hdtv and the Tosh hooked up to the Z5500.

Yea, like was mentioned above, the control pod cannot do the decoding but if you use the analog inputs and let the Toshiba do the work you should be fine.

So you need cables that have 2 rca into one mini. Fronts go into 1 jack, rears into another and the sub into the last. What about the centre speaker?

How do you know if you're getting dd+ or another hd sound format.....what should it say on the receiver?

The sub channel is split with the center. To know that you're listening to the advanced codecs, just verify it on the player itself. The receiver is simply taking the audio and sending it for amplification in a direct path. So whatever the receiver always says when you select the 6-channel input is what the receiver will say when it is receiving multichannel analog audio from the Toshiba.

I just looked and noticed that the centre/sub go into the same jack. I'm surprised that it works properly with two speakers going into one jack. Can anyone explain this? Same with the fronts and rears I would've thought there would at least be some signal loss. Are these cables common at futureshop for instance...I assume radio shack (circuit city) would have them but I think the quality might be questionable.

most RCA cables carry two signal, one for the sub and one for the center channel. if you dont hear any center channel sound you connect the RCA backwards on your toshiba.

question now is, where can i find good RCA to mini cables, ie gold plated, etc, all i have are cheapo ones.

From my X-Fi Elite Pro sound card, I use one of these for the front left and front right channels. The 7 ft. Belkin cables found here should do just as well. If you do an internet search on these cables, you should find a good price.

got my xa1 yesterday. everything was setup correctly and i wasnt getting any center channel audio, it was a pain taking the tosh out of the cabinent, checked connection and still no dialog, checked setup menus etc. couldnt figure it out, till i went back to the logitech reciever,

note to anyone using Z5500, make sure you input is set to six channel direct AND you have the effects off, it will think the signal is pro logic or other preset and mess up all the audio channels. learned this after a hour of troubleshooting.

Hi,
I'm a little confused by these different cables. How would I get truehd audio from the Creative X-Fi card to the Logitech Z5500 speakers?
Thanks
Well the only way you would get TrueHD from the X-Fi is if you have some other program such as PowerDVD or WinDVD doing software decoding of the TrueHD track. Then you would just use some of the converter cables mentioned in the above post and run them to the control pod.
Yes I have the software but the cable I have is the standard black, green and orange supplied with the card. Is this not the right sort?

Also does the X-Fi card need specific settings to work. For example what should my SPDIF input settings be?

Do you guys notice a difference between DD+, True HD using the analogs and just standard downconverted DD+ over coax/toslink? I have the HD A1 and z5500 and have a tough time noticing any difference at all.

This may be a bit off topic for the thread, but I was looking to buy the Logitech X-540 set, and use it with my HD-A1. I'm under the impression that if I get the mini jack to RCA converters, I should be able to plug the speakers into the analog output of my HD-A1. Then, the orange connectr (sub and center) will just output one or the other so that one out is sub and the other is center? Thanks for the help! Also - as long as I can get DD/+ or DTS, I'm happy. 5.1 is 5.1.
