Well, called $hitachi again earlier today since the promised upgrade card never arrived this week. The "CSR du jour" told me flat out that .0055 version does not address the flicker, and that they are still working on it. Big surprise to hear a different story from a different CSR
I also asked WTF they don't post their software updates on a website instead of hundreds of people waiting to share just a few SD cards. Their response? "We don't trust customers to download the right software". Well, maybe they're right as only a GD IDIOT would buy such a POS product (present AVS company excluded)...
So I asked him to pass me to Customer Relations as I was basically thru with $hitachi and the BS waiting because "we're working on it".
Talked to one CR rep who was not very helpful, so I asked for her supervisor. Finally talked to a man who half-seemed to care, so I clearly explained that I was thru waiting and that I wanted either a 100% refund, trade for a current model, or lose a customer and referrals for life. I don't care about how many "good" sets are out there if they don't stand behind the ones that aren't usable. Any decent company with half-brained management should be WAAAY more responsive than these idiots.
He said he would investigate what he could do, but said they could not do a return authorization with Video Only (VO policy, so lesson learned about buying from there). He also downplayed trading to a current model because "we can't guarantee that the new one won't have the flicker too". WTF?!?!! JFC, FIX THE GD PROBLEM ALREADY!! FIRE ALL THE CURRENT GD ENGINEERS AS THEY OBVIOUSLY DON'T KNOW WHAT THE F! THEY'RE DOING!!! I'll be glad
to take the chance with a new model as 1) there is the known SM menu fix here which seems to work for most current models, and 2) IT CAN'T BE ANY WORSE THAN I HAVE NOW!!!!
I truly HATE $hitachi for this defect, not having the brains to fix it, and not giving a rat's a$$ about losing a customer and referrals for life - no more excuses. I ADVISE ANYONE CONSIDERING $HITACHI TO PASS RIGHT ON BY.
I WILL NO LONGER RECOMMEND $HITACHI TO FAMILY, FRIENDS OR COLLEAGUES.
I SHOULD HAVE BOUGHT THE SAMSUNG 4253 INSTEAD...
