I watched part of Reign of Fire the other night on some HD channel and I was really glad I had a 61" tv, dragons require a big tv
post #5192 of 6610
I recommend using a video card with a large heatsink in place of a fan. I use the ASUS EN8600GT Silent connected using a DVI-to-HDMI cable. I'm running on Vista with the latest drivers so that I can adjust the overscan. Earlier versions of the drivers from NVidia didn't have that capability.

That movie is one of my favorite 'bad' movies, looks great in blu-ray on this set!

For all the JVC D'ILA lovers here: does that fact that Sony killed off rear projection LCD make you afraid that JVC might do the same with D'ILA?
Why would that be a problem or issue if it were true for current JVC owners? Who declared rear projection LCOS was dead?
Who knows? Maybe it'll last forever and won't die like Sony rear projection SXRD did?

RP is going away. Anybody that thinks differently is in denial. I like the technology so I am glad I got one before it happens.

Won't help me on my next purchase though.

Annoying, but easily fixed.

I've just had this happen as well, and I do believe it is an HDCP issue as well. It happened just after my Sony BluRay player locked up connected via HDMI, after I reset the BluRay player I had the green dots. Power on/off the TV and they are now gone.

I've had my 56FC97 that I bought at Costco a year and a week ago. It has been absolutely flawless! We've logged over 4,400 hours of viewing on it (I work rotating shifts so it gets a lot of near 24 hour runs on some weeks) and it's still on the original bulb!

I bought a backup bulb for $160 and have it ready to install when this one goes. That way I'll have service while the failed one is on its way back for its one time factory warranty replacement.

My whole family is still in awe of this set... none of us take it for granted. It serves as an XBox 360 display monitor almost half the time. It's a great companion to the 360, IMO.

I've got a Mac Mini running into my HD61GN97 using the Apple DVI to HDMI adapter, no problems at all - looks great.

I am having an issue with noise out of the TV. It's been doing it for awhile, but I've noticed it becoming more frequent lately. It's the fan kicking in whenever there are large amounts of black on the screen, but it makes a really loud, almost grinding-type noise - so loud it usually drowns out the audio from whatever I'm watching.

Is there a way to fix this myself, or will I have to have someone come work on the TV? I've already checked the air intakes and exhaust - all clear.

what kind of deals are people getting on replacement bulbs?

Well, I got my HD-65S998 as a replacement for my HD-70FH97 recently and the two TS-CL110 bulbs don't go with the 65S998. Now i've got two NIB bulbs up for grabs.

I don't look for deals. I prefer to buy at reputable retailers. Too many cheap knockoffs out there.

Thanks macmonkey, I finally got mine working. I think it was the cable I was using. Sorry to here about the fan noise. If your tv is still under warranty, I would have the fan replaced, it should be something they could fix on site.

Thanks,
JRad

deals doesn't predicate only cheap knockoffs, i was trying to survey what the going rate was that people were paying for new bulbs

Yep. When RP technology is completely gone, though, flat panel/direct view tech will hopefully meet or exceed what we have now.

Oil is going away too. Anyone that thinks differently is in denial.

If you take this survey from JVC it will give you a coupon code good for 20% off parts & accesories at the JVC store, which means 20% off a bulb

http://survey.satisfusion.com/Ultima...09&invid=23235

Which would be an OEM bulb from JVC for $160

I have an HD-56FN97. Does anyone know if this TV will support any formats such as 1080p/24 or 1080p/60? I get a lot of motion blur with camera panning. I have a Toshiba HD-A2 HD-DVD player hooked up via HDMI.

...

Doubt it. The quotes I've read indicate that the general buying public is more interested in style (flat panels) than substance (better black levels, etc).

Probably the next time that style and substance will converge is when large cost-effective OLED panels become a reality (prediction based on current announcements: at least half a decade away).

Yes, 1080p/60 is the native format of the display, 24p it cannot do.

I'm considering this TV, but one important question I have: does it have the ability to do DIRECT input switching (ie: switching to a desired input by the direct use of a remote code). I have a harmony remote, so it doesn't have to be a button on the factory remote, but TVs that force you to toggle through the available inputs drive me nuts.
You have to toggle.

Motion blur? Make sure your sharpness is at zero. I have ths combo and don't think I have once noticed motion blur.

Thanks for the quick reply, that's what I was looking for.

Another quick question: the FC doesn't have D-SUB VGA input, but can you hook up a PC via a DVI to HDMI connector?

yeah apparently you can, but you'll need powerstrip to play with the output settings to get the overscan and what not right, just search this thread for powerstrip, or the other settings/owner thread about this line for it

Actually, you may not need PowerStrip, at least not if you're using Vista (I suspect it doesn't work on Vista anyway). I'm running Vista with an nVidia card and using the latest nVidia driver and I'm able to adjust the overscan using the nVidia control panel. Works pretty well.

You might have different results with XP or another OS, however.

I got a Harmony remote recently and haven't been very happy with the results when used with my HD-70FH97. Here's what I have connected:
  • Video 1 - DISH Network Receiver
  • Digital 1 - HD-DVD Player
  • Digital 2 - HTPC (Windows Media Center)
I have a "Watch TV" activity that is supposed to switch the input to Digital 2 (and switch the audio on my AV receiver). I get the following variety of behaviors:
  • TV turns off (when it was previously on)
  • TV turns on and switches to correct input
  • TV turns on and switches to incorrect input (e.g. Digital 1)
  • TV stays on and switches to correct input
  • TV stays on and switches to incorrect input (e.g. Digital 1)
I've selected the correct input when programming the activity but I'm not getting consistent behavior, so my family is getting frustrated with me. Has anyone gotten the Harmony remote to work reliably with this TV?

Note that some of these same problems also occur on the AV receiver. I am posting here to focus on the TV aspect. Let me know if I really need to post elsewhere.

Thanks,
David
