Microsoft HD DVD Insiders Tour for AVS Forum

Hello everyone. With vacation and IFA almost out of the way, we are ready to restart the Microsoft HD DVD Insiders Tour for AVS Forum that I have promised for so long . The first one now is at CEDIA. Here are the details.

When: Sunday the 17th. Start time: 10:00am. End time: 12:00pm.
Where: The HD DVD Mobile Experience (decked out with new Marantz 1080p projector and good audio).
How: You need to RSVP. And this time, we have a better system than using PM at AVS Forum .

RSVP by Phone: 1-877-673-8368
RSVP Link: http://msevents.microsoft.com/cui/ev...7957+&x=7&y=12 (requires a Passport ID. If attendees don't want to use/create a Passport ID then they should register by phone)

Event Code: 1032307957 (required)

Questions: Please send email to avshddvd@microsoft.com. My inbox is almost full here so please don't PM on this topic.

What you can expect: I will be giving background/history on these formats, and answer any and all questions you might have about anything related to these formats. We will then have Kevin Collins on my team who is an expert on iHD and works closely with studios on title creation to talk about that end of the business. The highlight of the event is seeing unreleased movie titles that we have test discs for (and permission to show you -- usually from Warner).

Note that we can only seat 30 people. If we get 15 or less, there will be a single event. If we get more than 15, we will run two events concurrently and I will timeshare between them. So if you want to come, please RSVP asap as we can not go past the maximum count.

Note that you do not need to own an HD DVD player to come. Or be an AVS Forum member. However, we do reserve the right to approve who comes and non-forum members need to be invited by someone who is a member. I also like to avoid having a cat fight with BD fans. So if you are not interested in potentially purchasing an HD DVD player, then it does not make sense for you to attend.

So I look forward to seeing you there. The last one in LA was a lot of fun and we have learned how to fine tune things. And we all get to put a face with the words here.

We will be organizing the visits for the rest of the country later so if you can't make it to CEDIA, there will be other opportunities.

SWEET. I wish I was in Denver that week

if you ever want to come to Pittsburgh, PA would be glad to host the mobile truck.

Thanks for the offer! I don't know when we will make it to PA but priority does go up when folks help organize things for us .

Yeh, if you can tell me where I had great Cajon food there 16 years ago .

Seriously, we can come to any city if there is sufficient number of people coming, and some place would host the event with great A/V. Go ahead and browse the "Meet the cook" thread to see if others have voted for Huston and whether you can pair up with them to get us to come...

Amir:

I signed up, as I haven't had a chance to meet Kevin

Out of curiosity, will you be inviting any of those boring audio types with you too?

Best,

Best,

Oh anyone can come but our material of course will be video centeric. Kevin has done a lot to make the audio good though in the truck by begging for high-end gear from Harmon.

Amir:

That's a typo on my part. I meant to type "will you be bringing"...

I'll harass you on the truck

Cheers,

BTW:

Transcodes from WMA Lossless to AAC Lossless are painfully slow.

I'll be there. Thanks Amir for making this happen.

I will be there with a guest who is also attending Cedia (JSG) 2 total. Just registered by phone for both of us. Nice painless phone support once I had enough sense to give the event code.

Is it possible for someone to record the event and/or create a transcript/synopsis for the forum folks who can't make one of these events? I think everyone would love to hear the presenters and the question/answer sessions.

amir, based on your numbers then, I would expect NYC to happen very soon ?!?
I heard BD was doing the same thing, except of couse it was highly secrative, and therefore is not meant for public scrutiny...

I hear the truck for the BD tour has twice the capacity of the HD DVD truck

Of course they don't have enough space yet to do it justice, since that truck is still on "special order", and there won't be room for more than a few viewers, since they decided to install the entire popcorn machine and fountain drink dispenser in the box van they bought off the showroom floor, instead of just letting us bring in drinks and popcorn buckets.

I don't think so Tom. I try to be VERY candid in the event, answering questions that I do not here in public. We swear the attendees to secracy btw. For example, while we do show unreleased content, we ask that people not come and mention which movies they saw. Everyone followed the rules I am happy to say after the LA event so we are going to keep doing it this way.

Well I am just a video (and roller coaster enthusiast) and am not privy to attending CEDA, but you guys just keep doing what you are doing. Good job! It just kills me you guys can't talk about what you hear (and see!) I will wait for the crumbs that come out of CEDA. You guys always like to leak "a little." Have fun.

I'm not making it to CEDIA this year, but I hope to make a San Francisco visit.

Near downtown or out in the 'burbs by the Compaq/HP campus? (or elsewhere?)

If it was the CPQ/HPQ campus, then it was either Atchafalaya (now out of business) or Pappadeaux. Both easily beaten by places run by real Cajuns (e.g., Floyd's on Durham, Ragin' Cajun on Richmond). If you were somewhere else, then I need a few more hints. How authentic do you want to go? It's a little warm, right now, for mudbugs, but give it a few months, and they will be back in season.

Of course, if you want to put Austin on the list, I can make that, too.

Later,
Bill
