Force DVI resync on ATI card

I've just bought my first HDTV after several years with my HTPC. It's a Sony SXRD KDS-50A2000, which I have connected to my HTPC's ATI 9600 DVI port via a 50' DVI to HDMI cable from Monoprice. The image is spectacular from live and recorded HD from my Fusion HDTV card and very good from DVD. There are a few problems I could use the expert help of this forum's members on.

1) a significant annoyance to me (and very inconvient for others) is that if I switch from the Video 7 source to another source then back, the SXRD looses sync and just displays a black screen. To resync, I have to go to the HDTV in a different room, where there the old CRT monitor is, kill and restart the program (Fusion HDTV or Media Player) or, if I was just viewing email etc, start then kill a video, to get the SXRD to resync. Others without the second display, have been forced to disconnect the HDMI and reconnect it. So the question is,

is there a way to force a resync of the DVI signal via a keyboard entry?

2) while the new SXRD is supposed to have 1080p capability, and, when set for that my ATI 9600 properly detects the display, the TV says it's an unsupported connection. Switching to 1080i (30 hz) works great, except:

3) there is significant overscan, which is a minor concern when just viewing video, but, will be a more significant concern if I try running many other programs here as the bottom and top of the display which are clipped is where the window and program controls tend to be. I've read that the ATI cards in 1080i mode are known for this and that they don't exibit this problem in 1080p mode. So, issue 2 and 3 are related and result in a compound question:

is there a way set the ATI so the SXRD will accept it's 1080p (60hz) signal, or, to adjust the 1080i signal to not overscan?

Thanks for your help.

I have the exact same setup and the exact same problem. Does anyone have a solution. All help is greatly appreciated.

I no longer have this problem. Unfortunately, I don't know specifically what I did to resolve it. I know I've downloaded the latest Catalyst Control Center from ATI, have Theater Mode set for Full Screen and to match the video source, in Monitor Attributes I have "Use EDID" checked, and in Digital Panel Properties have Image Scaling set to "Scale Image to full panel size" and both DVI Settings unchecked.

Good Luck

ATI fixed the sync problem which was in their drivers quite a while ago so getting the latest drivers solved it for you.

You will have to use overscan compensation in the CCC to eliminate the effect of overscan by your TV. You can also use a thid party application called Powerstrip to cause your output to be underscannedso as to give the appearance of 1"1 pixel mapping.
However, if you really want 1:1 pixel mapping you can prpbably get it it your TV also supports a VGA interface since the VGA interface is acting just like a PC monitor and therfore does not overscan its input like it does when eumlating a CRT TV.

The A2000 VGA supports 1366x768 as it's maximum resolution.
A better solution is to set the ATI DVI port in CCC for 1080 resolution then select the custom desktop resolution of 1776x1000 so the desktop doesn't get clipped by the overscan.

Do the latest Cat drivers offer a way to force DVI output on?

Hello,
This issue is still current with some TV's. I still have this issue with a Sony KDL-46X3100 (XBR4).

This is due to the newer HDMI chips requiring the source to continously announce its presence to the TV, if not the TV drops the connection.
ATI have mentioned that this issue should be fixed in CAT 8.5 released in a week or two which would be fantastic as I have had this issue since october last year.

One option is to buy a DVI-Detective from Gefen, if you have a HDCP display make sure you get the HDCP compatible version otherwise it will not work when playing BD or HD-DVD.

second option which I currently use is setting up a hotkey to change resolution or refresh rate, since I run my TV at 1080x1920 I find changing refresh as the easiest to implement without all the icons rearranging themselves.
I use hotkey master which allows me to switch from 50hz to 24hz and vice versa (between BD mode 24p and normal TV viewing 50hz), this is enough to resync the connection and bring the TV out of hibernation. the only drawback is you need to switch it back to the refresh rate you wish to use eg 50/60hz or 24hz requiring an extra keystoke, but this is easy for the kids to work out and saves them needing to either restart the PC or pull out and replug the hDMI cable to obtain a picture.
Therefore all it is just a simple matter of pressing ALT-A for 24hz, up comes picture, then ALT-S to switch back to 50hz.

This so far is the easiest solution until a new CAT driver fixes this issue.
