Dancing with the Stars...on ABC...in HD! - Page 152

Huge surprise that Kirsti and Ralph turned in the best performances! Hines Ward looks more like a dad from the PTA than an all-star wide receiver.
To say that the dancing ability of the new group is underwhelming would be a gross understatement.

Of course, as I complain often, we need to distinguish a celebrity dancing well with a celebrity scoring well. I think Kirstie was clearly the best, I was disappointed yet again (though not surprised) that the "judges" scored Ralph as well as they did. I thought he was middling in a bad bunch.

But that's what the producers want, no doubt, spirited debate.

I, for one, am glad that we have a group of dance newbies without two or three ringers who are immediately (and forever) head and shoulders above the rest. With growth in performance and improvement in technique, anyone can win it (maybe not the radio comedian).

Totally agree! I can watch professionals dance if I wish. This show is about watching people who have at least some degree of celebrity success struggle to improve in a completely new arena.

I really enjoyed the show also because this season, unlike the last two, I find everyone at least somewhat likable and interesting. Even though I must be getting old and out of touch because I only recognized 4 of the stars! (Hines Ward, Chris Jericho, Kirstie Alley, and Ralph Macchio)

Some observations:

1 or 2 of Petra's points were charity. Not a big deal since it doesn't count for much at this point. Also, I was surprised after hearing on this forum about her high hotness quotient how little she interested me in that regard. In terms of attractiveness I rank her just above Wendy and Kirstie, and below the other stars and pros. She seems to be a sweet and caring woman, however, and I hope her dancing improves.

Ralph completely surprised me! 27 years later and he still acts like the shy innocent kid, but he put on a good show on the dance floor. I was cringing, expecting a crane kick at any moment, but thankfully they saved that for another dance - oh yes, it's coming, trust me.

Kirstie also shocked me! I almost turned it off and went to bed because I assumed her dance would be horrible. How she could manage that footwork, I don't know, but it was impressive. I think she will struggle with other dances which emphasize more of the upper body, but I can't wait to see her quickstep. Oh, and she still looks like she swallowed the Stay-Puft Marshmallow Man.

Best Dress - Cheryl Burke. (Admittedly I am HIGHLY biased in her regard, however, I still think I'm right.)

Making Old Men Feel Dirty Award - Chelsea Kane. What a bubbly little cutie!

The "Who?" Prize - "Radio Guy", which is apparently his official title since the host kept referring to him as such. I guess I'm not the only one who doesn't know his name.

Hines Ward I predict will be the best football player to participate in the show thus far. I know that Jerry Rice came in third, but I had to stop watching him because he just never could dance well and only the fans kept him in. I think Hines has the potential to win it all.

And there might be a lot of dark-horse candidates too, like Hines, Wendy and Kirstie.

I'm going to have to indulge in "tooting my own horn" a little bit.

Except for Ray, I think I called it pretty well in this post. With the best call being Kirstie for the dark-horse candidate, which I based on my believe that people often underestimate her.

In fact, I think there's even more potential for improvements than I originally thought. Ralph, Hines, Chendra and Chelsie seem to have some natural talent and should be capable of lots of improvement. And I'll go out on a limb and speculate that with just one break-through and an enthusiastic audience response, Romeo's ego will kick in and he'll want to start moving those hips and become a serious contender.

I think Chendra is actually a lot better than she showed last night. It looked to me like she had a stumble in the middle and then got up in her head and had trouble the rest of the dance.

Heck, I don't even think that Mike is completely hopeless. With a lot of work he might end up a middle of the pack contestant. But he probably won't get the chance. Like Dr Drew's earlier partner, Adam Carolla, it looks like Mike will be one of the first to go.

FYI, on his show Monday night, Jimmy Kimmel (before the Charlie Sheen antics) predicted that Hines Ward will be the season 12 winner.

So far, with one exception (Ian Zering (sp?)), Jimmy's pick has always made the final three, and he's correctly predicted the winner 4 times.

Don't forget that Emmitt Smith actually won. And Warren Sapp also scored a 2nd place.

And don't forget Jason Taylor. He finished second also (season 6 when Kristi Yamaguchi won) - much to the consternation of his Miami Dolphins boss Bill Parcells. Gave Edyta her highest place finish during her long tenure on the show.

If you didn't watch Inside The NFL on Showtime this past season, they had a show where Jason was a guest - and he and Warren were comparing notes - Paso Doble vs. Quickstep (or some combination). Very funny bit. When Jason was announced as a guest, I wondered if he and Warren would do some stuff based on DWTS. They didn't disappoint.

At least we don't have to put up with Palin ..

Macchio for the win ..

Nothing here about the show except the yearly: Thank you Kym and Brooke for the eye candy. Another great season.

I sure miss Edyta "the body" Śliwińska and the peppy Julianne.

WABC-DT NYC FiOS TV

I'm watching the rebroadcast and there is a slight echo on all the taped segments and any voices.
Was it happening on the live broadcast?
I was watching the live broadcast last monday, in Albany, GA on WTVM via Mediacom. I did not notice any such echoes.

Weekly BUMP for tonight's performance show. Can Kirstie keep up the good work, or will she wilt under the pressure to learn a new dance in 4 days (as opposed to the three weeks just prior to the season premiere)?
Maybe DWTS has jumped the shark. I came here and NO postings the day after the show.

Anna looked wonderful, and I just love her personality.

I found the whole "tomboy" thing with Kendra a little tiresome, I mean, seriously?

Hines Ward is the best dancer thus far.

Ralph Macchio is endearing; somehow he is still a shy, innocent little kid at his age.

Petra is not a very good dancer, though I like her attitude.

I predict the 3 finalists will be Chelsea, Ralph, and Hines, with Chris Jericho as the dark horse.

I think it's Kirstie's to lose. She will win, as Mac already called it. As long as she remains the enjoyable underdog, keeping people laughing, she will continue to win support. She can dance and she is entertaining.

Hines will be a close 2nd

Ralph and Romeo will pull up for third and fourth.

I hope that Wendy Williams is cut first. She is annoying.

And as much as she says that she cares, it doesn't show in her dances. It looks like she's just taking the steps and hoping it's over soon.

Now 10:17 PM PDT on the left coast and...

pretty much as expected. Mike Catherwood (and Lacey Schwimmer) the first to get the boot. Boo hoo, it's back to Dr. Drew for Psycho Mike.

For those who were rooting for Wendy Williams to go, she and Tony got the last 'save' of the night and will advance to week 3.

Well, aside from his mother, he wasn't too well known. But he seemed to be interesting. This show probably could have given his career a big boost, buh bye.

That singer last night (name?), wasn't he the tough guy who recently beat up a dressing room-- and a petite woman. Nice lip synch job. How fake was that? After the song was over, he was saying thanks but his mic was never on, to begin with.
Did Catherwood remind anyone else of Kenny Mayne (voice and intonation-wise, not dancing)?

There just don't seem to be any contestants who engender strong emotions in the audience, either way. The "judges" are becoming caricatures of themselves as they steer the results (as is the case in every reality show). I will say the first two weeks have been pretty unpredictable, as Chris and Hines really didn't do well in week 1 but, IMO, were the best dancers this week (and dancing non-Latin-Rhythym, surprisingly), while Kirstie stumbled (ha-ha). Who knows what will happen next week?

Chris Brown I think is his name; could not understand after what he did on the dressing room he still manage to show his nauseating persona on ABC what in the world there projecting. Looks like he love to hit women and what ever is around them. That's what sell TV this days obnoxious attitude.

Well I for one am enjoying the season. As we've stated, the regularness of the competitors is nice. Williams has to go next, she brings nothing to the table expect maybe a knife, fork and napkin.
I'm pretty sure that W. Williams is a man!

As the competion heats up and the rehersals get more and more grueling, I wonder if Kirstie can keep it up .. she has surprised me, however ..

I'm still thinking Ralph Macchio for the win ..
Wendy may not be trying very hard, but based on Tony's reaction, she's no where near as bad as Kate Gosselin, since Tony seems much happier this season.

One shudders to think that it would even be possible for anyone to eclipse the miserable atrocity that was the "dancing" Gosselin.

^^ Master P disagrees!

Oh, and why does the show hate Lacy? She always gets bums.

Glad Kym has a good partner. She's delicious.
