Dancing with the Stars...on ABC...in HD! - Page 161

There's a PBS special featuring the Miami Ballet dancing Ballanchine and Tharp tonight.

The teasers looked promising. This might be a really good show.

Weekly BUMP for tonight's performance show. It's Halloween. What kind of nonsense will the judges put up with this week?
Time change tonight. It's starts a half-hour later and only runs an hour and a half.

Hi, I was not feeling well the last few days so I missed posting the results from Tuesday's results show.

First of all, Justin Bieber. Is he worth all the hype? Not to me.

As for the eliminations, it came down to Nancy&Tristan and David&Kym (the bottom two) and... Bye-bye David and Kym. No championship for them and no win for Jimmy Kimmel ($1,000 down the drain. Oh well, can't win 'em all)

For the remaining five, it's two dances next week - the regular scheduled one plus the 'instant dance'.

Also, beware. Should be the return of the over-glittered ones. That's right - DanceCenter should be making its seasonal appearance right about this time next week.

Weekly BUMP for tonight's performance show. Five couples left, two dances for each. Is this Nancy Grace's last hurrah?

Nancy Grace or Hope Solo....I will say though ,Nancy has been a real trooper and has really put forth the effort.Would not be surprised to see Hope leave.
I'd be OK with either leaving

Based on what I saw tonight, I reiterate...

1) Looks like tonight was Nancy's last hurrah.
2) The mirror-ball trophy is J.R.'s to lose.
^^ I totally agree with that

Show over on the west coast. Before I get to the results...

Hope Solo. Naked. Oh Yeah!

Len Goodman. Naked. Ow! My Eyes! MY EYES!

Now on to results...
No real surprise. J.R. had 60, Nancy had 44 - difference too much to make up in audience vote. Nancy&Tristan have danced their last. But I think, like most of you do, she went a lot further than most people expected.

Semi-finals next week.
I really liked the opening all girl number, very good although IMO the all guy number wasn't quite as good. The Dance Center parts were one of the weakest I've seen but I really liked the Michael Jackson routine.
Kind of a up and down night for me but I'm glad the results were what they were. My guess is Hope or possibly Rob will go next week, Hope seems to be improving but Rob probably has more of the important female vote. I agree, Hope's photo shot was rather nice on the eyes

Weekly BUMP for Monday's performance show. It's semi-finals week. Who will be told to leave one week prior to the finals? I think it's between Rob and Hope.
Rob seems more likeable than Hope. So I am going with Hope out the door.

JR picked a fine time to get a bad foot injury. It definitely didn't help during his dancing. He and Karina tumbled all the way to third on the judges scoreboard. I think he does make it to the finals next week (with Ricki and Rob) - but then again you never know until it's announced.

Yep, Hope has none, too far behind on judges scoreboard for audience vote to make a difference.
I suspect JR would have gotten 3rd no matter what. They just would have given him a slightly bigger point spread above Hope if he'd done better.

I'm fairly certain that the judges were trying to protect Riki and Rob from Hope and not JR since they think JR's fanbase will keep him safe. Hope seems to have a very strong fan base that has managed to keep her around, so they especially needed to protect Rob who they recognize as having improved a lot more than Hope.

BTW, I vote that Karina has to wear that tango outfit from now on since it did such a fantastic job of showing off her body and moves.

My brother in law Rob K. is quietly stepping it up,I wouldn't be surprised to see him or Rikki Lake win it....

Swami jr says it again ,that Hope is gone tonite....

Yeah, Rob is the biggest improvement I've ever seen on DWTS. He did get lucky being on a season with such a large number of really bad dancers. Most seasons he would have been gone before he had a chance to get better.

And Cheryl deserves an award just for the work she's done on him this season.

Semi-finals results over on west coast.
Rob & Cheryl - did the encore dance - of course they're finalists.

Ricki & Derek - finalists.

So it came down to JR & Karina and Hope & Maks... and as expected, Hope & Maks are done.

Finals next week - one hour performance show and two hour grand finale show.
Personally I think they put JR in the bottom two as a way to rally his supporters, after all they said of the last two that one wasn't necessarily in the bottom two.
Ask me 3 weeks ago and I'd say JR had it wrapped up, now I'm not so sure. Ricki or even Rob seem to have a good shot at the mirror ball. IMO this hasn't been the best season by far for dancers but it has been the hardest to predict.
I don't have a really good feel for the fanbase, but from a pure dancing standpoint it could be anyone's game both JR and Riki have had meltdowns and could meltdown again in the finals. Although Rob would have to be extremely lucky to have both JR and Riki have big meltdowns on the same night.

I think JR might have a fanbase advantage over Riki, so I think he can afford a minor stumble and still win it.

Does anyone know how much the Pro's make for doing this show?

IF you believe the answers that Google turns up then it's slowly increased from union scale at ~$1000/episode to ~$5000/episode now.

Or 1/10th(or less) what each of the two hosts probably makes

I guess it is still a matter of supply and demand. I am sure there are countless talented dancers who would gladly like to earn that kind of money. I would imagine dancers unlike many other performers are not paid much in comparison.

It does appear the pro dancers are starting to develop their own fan base and this is why the money is going up. It's all about who brings in the viewers.

The notoriety they receive is priceless. Check out the number of dance studios combined they now operate... must in the hundreds.

Amazing isn't it? Most people can probably name more of the pro dancers on DWTS than they can their kids school teachers or local politicians.

Yep. Unless you're headlining a show, most dancers get union scale. So the DWTS Pros are getting paid much better than the average hoofer.

It's still not a lot of money, but as others have mentioned there are also a lot of perks. There's the name recognition that has allowed them to open studios and for get parts in commercials like Edyta and Julianne (and IIRC Karina and Maks). And to get choreography/dancing gigs on other shows, like Karina and Maks on the Emmy's and Louis on SYTYCD Plus I've seen them showered will very expensive gifts from their celebrity partners.

Plus I'd argue that the name recognition helped both Jonathon and Anna win American titles. Which further helps then get lucrative consulting/teaching jobs.

Weekly BUMP for Monday's performance show. Final one for this season. Promise!

It's finals week - JR Martinez, Rob Kardashian and Ricki Lake - the last 3 celebs standing! Four dances this week! Can JR recover from his ankle injury to claim victory? Will Rob continue his improvement to pull off the upset? Will Ricki have the stamina to survive?

Tune in tonight and tomorrow to find out.

Note: tonight's performance show is one hour only. Grand finale results show on Tuesday will be two hours.
Pretty good finals but still not up to the level of some past seasons. Rob getting a 30 for that number? Give me a break. He's very much improved but still looks pretty stiff at times. Typical DWTS planned judging nonsense.
