Lots of talent on the women's side this season. I think we're going to see another season where the most talented dancer (Zendaya) finishes second or third because the slightly less talented dancers (Pickler and Ali) have bigger fan bases.
I thought Victor was slightly underscored compared to Sean and especially Lisa who got the same score of 18 with a huge stumble at the start whereas the worst thing that Victor did was not fully committing to every move and leaving them looking half-hearted. Victor should have gotten a 19 compared to Lisa or Lisa should have gotten a 17.
i'm OK, with adding a contemporary dance in general, but I don't like the idea of it happening in the first week. I still prefer the idea of getting to see everyone do one Latin and one Standard dance before the first elimination. And adding lifts with a contemporary dance in the first week is a big penalty for the older dancers. They should really save the lifts for the second half of the season otherwise they might not ever get any older celebs to sign up for the show after this season.
That being said, Dorothy did a respectable job with her contemp dance but her lack of back and leg hyper-extension, which is to be expected in a woman pushing 60, was very noticeable. But, If Jerry Springer of Buzz Aldrin had drawn contemporary in their first week, it would've made DL's routine look pretty decent by comparison.
After noticing how huge Zedaya's feet are, I wondered if they used the fog machine intentionally to hide her feet.
Almost a perfect dancer's body, except for those enormous flat feet. Actually, they really only looked bad when she's standing flat-footed.
If she can toe dance on those giant stilts, she would probably look really good in classical ballet since it would add another foot to her already unusually long leg lines and her toe point was decent looking. And her foot size shouldn't matter when she's wearing heels for the ballroom dances.
