Dancing with the Stars...on ABC...in HD! - Page 174

In light of what happened in Boston, we needed last night's show.

In essence, the side-by-side with the pro dancers worked very well, especially for the top performers (Jacoby, Zendaya, Kellie, Aly). For the bottom performers (DL, Andy) not so well.

No surprise there, Dinger; that was pretty much the reslt we all expected.

The only remaining female contestants are among those top performers, so we can expect to see a man voted out in tonight's results: maybe Andy or D,L., or maybe Victor or Ingo or Sean.  There will surely be several weeks running of male castoffs before any of the last three females (almost said "women" but one of them is a minor) leaves.

(Hmm.  If Hughley went by his first name instead of his initials, would he have been paired with a different pro so as not to have a team called "Darryl and Cheryl"?  Heck, they've yet to pair any Jim or Tim with Kym Johnson, and she's had three Davids.)

I don't think Aly can improve enough to make it to the finals. Z & K are still getting better. I think Jacoby is untouchable on the male side and he does put on a show. He'll be there and probably win it, though probably won't get as many 10s. The rest are fodder.

Dancing wise it's Zendaya's to lose. Fan wise she won queen if I'm not mistaken so she has a fan base as does Jacoby (won king?). Aly will probably be most improved and Kellie happens to be my favorite (to watch). I found her refreshing on Idol and seeing her breakdown at the CMA awards it's hard not to wish her well.

Yeah that matches my take on things at this point. I suspect Z will get the highest judges scores in the finals and J will either be second or third depending on how well K does and it'll come down to whether J has a big enough voting margin over Z to overcome the judges scores.

Although, I wouldn't be surprised if K manages to pull down the best judges scores, Especially since she has Derek doing the choreography in the freestyle round which the judges will probably like better than anything Karina or Val come up with.

Results show now over on the west coast...

Jacoby got his wish - to dance the encore on Tuesday night's show.

The bottom three - Ingo&Kym (saved), Victor&Lindsay, DL&Cheryl.

Best line of the night, by Andy (after learning next week will have team dances, led by Kellie&Derek and Zendaya&Val - Team Paso vs. Team Samba)...

"I'm hoping to be on Kellie's team, so we can call it Team PicklerDick" (which scared the wits out of Brooke and left Tom without a comeback line)

Final results - bye-bye, DL&Cheryl, even though he picked up the intensity over the last two weeks.

I was expecting Jacoby to do an even better job last night, but if anything, his feet were even worse than on Monday. Karina really needs to whip him into shape.

Weekly BUMP for tonight's performance show. With the two weakest dancers (Lisa and DL) now gone, who do you think will be next to go? Or next to surprise?

Logic says Andy or Victor. They're the low hanging fruit anyway. Darkhorse? Ingo maybe.

Some musings from last night...

Zendaya and Kellie are separating themselves as leaders of the remaining dancers. Alexandra lost a little bit and Jacoby is starting to fade (pigeon toes and all).

The remaining guys (Andy, Ingo, Sean and Victor) will fall over the next few weeks. With four weeks left, there will be one double elimination to get down to the requisite three finalists in week 10.

I think Victor goes tonight - lowest score on his individual dance (tied with Andy) and he was on the losing team (Team Paso) for the group dance. Zendaya didn't help herself much by being captain of that mess. It looks like they peaked early in their practice and lost it during the performance, while Team Samba had initial issues during practice but got them resolved by performance time.

The 10s were flying for Zendaya and Kellie - Len not giving a 10 for Zendaya was kind of expected, but Carrie Ann being a nitpicker for spacing issues between Kellie&Derek (costing them a point) during their quickstep was surprising, as well as Len giving his first 10.

Stevie Wonder was fun to listen to, but what happened to that country guy (sorry, name escapes me now) - he did the opening number and wasn't seen the rest of the show.

Hunter Hayes, maybe he had to catch a plane.  He is opening for Carrie Underwood tonight (4/23) in Houston.

Minor surprise, Team Paso got voted to do the encore - I guess they liked the hunk celebrities (and Zendaya) over the babe celebrities.

No surprise on the elimination - Victor&Lindsay. I don't think either had the fan base (Lindsay especially because she's the newbie pro).

Latin night next week.

Humdinger70 must be busy with real life, because the usual Monday bump post isn't here yet.  Well, I'll step in.

Latin night tonight.

No, I'm still here. I don't post at the same time every Monday, it just depends on when I can get to it.

Let's make it official. Weekly BUMP for tonight's performance show.

All righty then, as "dattier" noted, it's Latin night with live music from some guy I've never heard of (a far cry from Stevie Wonder last week). Who has the sensuous moves and who will look like a stiff? Tune in and find out.

Right.  As I said, you were busy with real life.

I'd never heard of Juanes before either, but I heard of Stevie Wonder fifty-odd years ago when "Fingertips Part 2" was getting radio play.

An early result. One couple would be given immunity from elimination based on their judges' scores. Kellie&Derek and Alexandra&Mark tied for the top with 29 points (seems Len and Carrie Ann agree to disagree - when one gives a 10, the other gives a 9). By rule, in that case, the couple with the highest cumulative judges score would win out so,

Kellie&Derek are SAFE - no worry for them during tonight's elimination show, they will dance next week (which is why their phone number didn't show up during the end of show recap).

Same can't be said for Andy&Sharna - for them, I think it's finally over.

That was bold of Val (and possibly of Zendaya, but we don't know how much input she had in the decision) to select Jacoby and Karina as their dance-off opponents instead of the easier remaining marks (Ingo and Kym, or Sean and Peta), but it paid off, not only for Zendaya to get an advantage over Jacoby, but also for Ingo, who probably would not have gotten the bonus points if he and Kym had faced Zendaya and Val or Jacoby and Karina.

Then again, it was thoughtful of Jacoby (and possibly of Karina, though likewise we don't know how much input she had in the decision) to select jive rather than making Valentin rumba with a minor.  Keeping the rumba PG-rated could have hamstrung them.

What did they have to lose? Neither couple is in danger of elimination. The move was calculated to score audience approval and more fans...and to score points with the Derek haters...that little zing there in the balcony. I enjoyed the side by side...not sure if I agreed with the judges.

Probably nothing; you're right.  [no-longer-a-spoiler]And it's a few minutes too soon on the West Coast to say they didn't lose anything and that the choice didn't affect who went home tonight.[/no-longer-a-spoiler]

I don't remember the zing in the balcony, nor was I aware that there were a significant contingent of Derek haters.  They must have been either thrilled or bored when he took Season 12 off.

Andy&Sharna were in the 'in jeopardy' group, as expected. So were Ingo&Kym and Jacoby&Karina (oh-oh, he's starting to fade).

Anyway, as I guessed, eliminated were... Andy&Sharna.

Next week, trio dances return for the six remaining couples. No mention of a double elimination - they have to do it next week or the week after.

Go to the DTWS board...there are always active threads from those that claim the fix is always in for the guy, gets the best partners, gets overscored vs. their favorites...that he's a pompous ass. His defenders kick in about 50% of the time. Personally, I think his routines always show more imagination and choreaography slanted to make his partners appear better than they really are. He is a huge advantage. When he takes risks, the judges slap him down, but at least for me, I enjoy those numbers the most. Hasn't taken any big ones this year. Anyway, there's a vocal contingent that will vote for anyone except Derek.
Hough does seem to get many of the best partners, and I've noticed that too; but if he's a pompous ass, he reins it in when the cameras are running.

Seems to me he takes those risks only in the last several weeks, as with Shawn Johnson last season, so we're not there yet in Season 16.  But by the same token, he's almost always around that late every season.

Between the Houghs (Derek and sister Julianne) and Mark Ballas (surrogate brother?), they've won 7 of the 15 mirror balls. So whatever they're doing works.

Some weirdness in tonight's scoring.

Finally, the first perfect score (and only one) - Zendaya, Val and Gleb for their trio salsa.

But the weirdness was the dichotomy of Kellie, Derek and Tristan's paso doble (which had the nice touch of appearing to start right at the end of Kellie&Derek's foxtrot) - 10-7-10. eek.gif
Haven't seen that before, plus Len got all blustery and put out a word about Bruno that needed to be bleeped. eek.gif

I think Sean can start concentrating on his nuptials with Catherine because I think he's done.

EDIT: There was no mention of a double elimination. They either do it next week or they go into the finale week with 4 couples, which I don't think has happened before.

I sure thought that paso was going to get all 10s and Len was actually pretty generous last night, not sure what struck him so wrong about it confused.gif
While I'm not the biggest fan of Jacoby I sure though his paso was going to get at least one 10.......
Yes I think either Sean or Ingo will go, Sean is slightly worse but may have a bigger fan base, either way I'd be OK.
