My guess is the theatrical aspect of the dance over powered the dancing itself to the point he felt cheated... as she is talented gimmicks only cheapens the performance. Now if George Hamilton had performed such he would have been fine with it.

What happened to Len, he lost his mind, Kellie was amazing. How did he not see something that the other two did?

While I'm not the biggest fan of Jacoby I sure though his paso was going to get at least one 10.......
Yes I think either Sean or Ingo will go, Sean is slightly worse but may have a bigger fan base, either way I'd be OK.

Agreed on the Paso trio. It was at least the equal of Zendaya's trio dance, if not better. Kelley was ferocious as were Derek and Tristan. Len has one of these tirades about Derek every season but last night's was so over the top that it was embarrassing. Whatever issues he had with the choreography, it was not deserving of a 3 point ding. It will only serve to get Kelley more votes (which she should). She is a wonderful dancer with great precision and when she sells the routine emotionally, IMHO, she is at the top of charts this season.

Uh oh, looks like the 'vote for the worst' crew is back as Dialidol.com has Sean&Peta leading in the call in votes. If so, Ingo&Kym look like they're going to be out tonight (doesn't really matter as it was going to be one of the two either way). It looks like the women are way ahead of the men and they (Alexandra, Kellie and Zendaya) will be the last three standing.

Results show now over on the west coast.

They love pulling surprises on us don't they. Kellie&Derek were in jeopardy, Ingo&Kym were safe.

I loved the Macy's Stars of Dance number - an homage to Fred Astaire doing his "Dancing on the Ceiling" (the rotating room with the camera at a fixed perspective).

Dialidol got it wrong, final three were Kellie&Derek, Sean&Peta and Jacoby&Karina. Kellie&Derek were (finally) pronounced safe.

Going out - Sean&Peta (as expected). Semi-finals next week. Still five couples and no mention of a double elimination for next week, Will they go to the finals week with 4 couples instead of the usual 3? I guess we'll have to wait until next Tuesday to find out.
Perhaps because i saw Fred Astaire's version as a yougster and didn't know how it was done, but his will always be the best.
The last two weeks, after one of the three couples in jeopardy was announced as safe after all, the remaining ones were identified as the bottom two.  Last night Burke-Charvet stated that the last two were "not necessarily the bottom two."

So if a couple is announced to be in jeopardy and then not eliminated, it's no indication that their total score was third-to-last or second-to-last.  It's hard to believe that the other two couples in jeopardy last night were actually outscored by Rademacher and Johnson.  Perhaps Jones and Smirnoff were selected by lot while Pickler and Hough were put there as further punishment from Goodman for Hough's choreography Monday.

As far as the last goes, DwtS is supposed to be a dancing competition among the celebrities, not a choregraphy competition among the professional partners. Three points off (plus, possibly, time in the jeopardy cooler) for the contestant because of the pro's choices?  Not right.  Maybe the judges should get to review the choreography in advance and give input to the pros if they feel it doesn't meet the standards for that particular dance.

After all, Astaire will always get the credit as the person who thought of it and figured out how to do it (without CGI -- which didn't yet exist -- or even a green screen, which I believe did).  Last night's step forward in the effect came in having two dancers who at times seemed to be pulled toward different directions of gravity, and in doing it live so that it had to work in one take with no breaks and no edits.

Upfronts Pregame Analysis: Is ABC in Danger of Becoming the New NBC?
By Josef Adalian, Vulture.com - May 7, 2013

Biggest Headache
Dancing With the Stars has been a reliable Monday-Tuesday tentpole for years, but the oxygen has completely gone out of the show. Unless it actually manages to cast real stars, or convinces Reese Witherspoon to compete, it seems unlikely that DWTS will return to super-hit status in the very near future. Though the show's not likely to be canceled anytime soon (it still brings in a large number of older viewers), it'll be interesting to see if ABC decides to cut DWTS back to once a year, perhaps shifting it to later in the season.

I have to agree. It's been a success, I think far beyond ABC's own expectations. Yes, the viewing audience has always tended to skew to an older demographic, but 25 million viewers is 25 million viewers. It's been a fun run, but the end is nearer than the beginning.

Cut it back to once a year (spring seems to be the best place for it) and maybe announce a finale for the show - do the competition, name a winner, but then have a 2-hour special bringing back past celebrity dancers and pros (I'm sure we'd love to see Edyta again! smile.gif) for some fun performances. Maybe even get Tom and Brooke to take turns on the floor one last time, or even getting the judges to strut their stuff.

I agree, any other show that got 25M viewers would be considered a great hit! AFA the older demographic, as long as having the younger singers and dance styles doesn't seem to attract the younger viewers I'd say stop trying to pander to that demographic and give the people that actually watch the show what they want. I'd much prefer to see the traditional dance styles and singers, if I wanted to see hip hop, African Jazz or Contemporary I'd watch SYTYCD(which I do) but keep DWTS as it was and stop pandering to a audience who apparently doesn't want to watch. All they seem to be doing is alienating the one audience group that actually watch the show.
Most kids don't like this show, my teenagers who are probably a prime demographic never really watch DWTS, they may watch a music act thats popular if I call them to the room but they'd never dream of watching the show for the dances. I called them in the room to watch the box dance mentioned above and while they thought it was cool they were out of the room as soon as it was over.......

Weekly BUMP for tonight's performance show.

Semi-finals this week. No mention of a double elimination, so they might go with 4 in the finals.

Waiting on when DanceCenter makes its seasonal appearance. tongue.gif

And tout for "So You Think You Can Dance" season 10 premiere on FOX Tuesday and Wednesday night.

(that's where all these Lindsey, Whitney, Chelsea, Dmitry, Twitch, Allison, etc., dancers come from)

Yes. 4 couples in next week's finals. No double elimination.

Role reversal - Jacoby&Karina outscored Zendaya&Val (59 to 55). eek.gif
post #5234 of 5463

Anyone think having four finalist pretty much guarantees a Jacoby win? The judges scores will be irrelevant (as usual) as with the high scores and the number of dances the scores typically end up so close their 50% of the vote will be virtually tied. So the viewers get to pick the winner. I would have to think Aly and Zendaya are splitting fans and if one was dropped the other would get the others votes. Perhaps Kellie as well but to a lesser degree. Which leaves Jacoby left with all of his demographics.

Assuming Ingo goes home I think Jacoby will hard to beat fan wise...

Unfortunately I agree even though personally I think other than Ingo, Jacoby is the weakest dancer left frown.gif

Technically, I think most would agree. Like singing competitions it's more than pure technical ability and based on the dance style he can perform rather well and his been improving. Maybe in the future two champs... King and Queen followed by a dance off... judges decision.

Change for next season. Looks like they'll stick with the two cycles per year, but the Tuesday results show has been axed.

Our other dance show(So you think you can dance) also axed their result show a few cycles back. I for one will miss it, I liked the professional dance and song routines they had on Tuesday but usually scanned past the repeats of previous nights dances since I'd already seen them and just the night before.

Results from results show (sorry I'm late with this)...

It was DWTS 300th show last night.

It came down to Zendaya&Val and Ingo&Kym in jeopardy. Final elimination - Ingo&Kym.
So [alphabetically] it's Coleman, Jones, Peckler Pickler, and Raisman to the finish line.

Edit: sorry for the typo.

I'm not sure if they made it clear: Was Zendaya & Val "in the bottom two" or just "in jeopardy"?
They said Zendaya & Val were not necessarily in the bottom two, I think they were just playin' with them smile.gif
post #5244 of 5463
it's anybody's game. Whichever couple the audience steps up for, will win it. Normally, I'd think the football guy would win it and he may, but he's competing against an Olympian. Z & K both appeal, Z with the younger demo and parents that think she's genuine and K with middle America that love that she's country strong. I'm not sure you can pick this one unless one of the dancers tanks.

Weekly BUMP for tonight's performance show (season finale).

4 couples, who has it in them to win it all?
Has the show ever made mention of the fact that Kellie Pickler has entertained the troops overseas during six USO tours?

First night of finals is over. Jacoby Jones didn't help himself much if he wants to win.

Interestingly, Kellie&Derek, instead of 'supersizing' their freestyle, actually downsized it to concentrate on dance and not gimmicks. Worked well, perfect score of 30.

Total of judges scores after night one: Zendaya&Val - 65, Kellie&Derek - 64, Aly&Mark - 61, Jacoby&Karina - 56.
Thought Kellie and Derek's freestyle was the dance of the season....hope it paid off in votes. That was after I though Aly and Mark's was the best freestyle I'd seen in years.

Peckler?
Pickler, of course ... thanks for catching the typo, Jim.  I've amended the original.

It's probably her first name that gets mistyped or misspelled more often: as impressed as the studio audience was with her freestyle dance last night, I wouldn't be surprised if she lost the Twitter vote for tonight's encore because too many of her votes were cast for #encoreKelly instead of #encoreKellie, unless the DWTS staff anticipate that and count both for her.
