CRT's arent Dead!!!!!!!

Hi guys, i've been a member for a while but i haven't done alot of posting. I read about all these new projection technologies being this and that, SO much better than CRT. I want to start this thread for CRT owners to post their screenshots. This may not be the place for it, but we need to heard and seen. Here are some pics from my Hitachi 51S500 off of Cox HD cable. The thing i love above my tv is the movie theater quality, and outlandish colors. Its simply not the same on other types of projection sets. My hand isn't very steady, but you'll ge the idea. I cant wait till I get a toshiba hddvd player.

You have alot of Red_push goin on there i would recommend you turn color down.

One thing a miss about my CRT RPTV is that when the source went entirely black, the screen would go completely dark and not some shade of gray like my LCD and DLP sets.

I couldn't possibly post any picture that would do my 73" Mits any justice. Especially a dark scene where blacks, contrast ratio and shadow detail blows all other type sets away.

I don't think anybody in this forum that's informed thinks that CRTrp's suck. They are dying though. Only because there isn't much of a market for the uninformed average consumer. I don't know how much of a hard time I have explaining to my fellow people that CRTrp's can look stunning if they invest in a ISF calibration. They just see these big uncalibrated sets in stores and would rather have a more fashionable looking set. I wish CRT's weren't going away. I was hoping that with todays technology, they would be able to further improve on some of the inherent flaws in the technology (like misconvergence).

It's a proven fact, that a fine tuned RPT CRT is the only way to go for picture quality. Even though my 61UWX10B was beyond repair, I decided to purchase the 57F59, which is now scheduled for delivery this coming Monday.

I also own a JVC LT40FH96 LCD which is an excellent HDTV, but my true liking is still a CRT based big screen HDTV.

Yeah, CRT is just too heavy. And, after being promised new TV technologies for 35 or more years, many of us simply feel we can't wait any longer :-) Still, in terms of bang for the buck, nothing beats the few remaining 1080 CRTrp's.

meh, thats more like my tv now, PGR isnt kind on CRTRP sets

My problems with PGR.

1. Turn brightness high enough to see black levels, everything is washed out
2. turn brightness low enough for true blacks, I get black crush
3. blooming in garage is so extreme that the internal reflections on my set literally GREY out the picture, it amazes me.


I could really give you some PGR3 shots of my set tomorrow if you still insist on seeing it

I'll be getting one here in a week or 2. Still undecided between 2 models. The Hitachi 57f59 or the Mits 55517(I think thats the model number)

Local Conn's had both sets on display with Discory HD on. The Mits looked slighty better but I couldn't get a good viewing angle on the Hitachi.

Of those 2 which to you think would be the best? Viewing distance is about 8'

In a way they are.. most were ship back to Hitachi from stores..and if they weren't they were remanufactured by Hitachi themselves.

Between co-workers and family I'm responsible for 5 Hitachi 57f59 and one 65F59 being sold in the past 3 months. All it takes is them coming by my house and looking at my 65710A or our Hitachi 57f59 at work and they are sold. Up until then they was all looking at spending $3K on one of them pretty thin lite weight units.
Hell, Sear or Hitachi should give me a $$$ kick-back
