Way to go William! A little tutorial for how to install would be super too.

UPGRADING!!

PHASE 1 BE UPGRADING (it really says that)

PHASE 2 BE UPGRADING

PHASE 3 BE UPGRADING

COMPLETE!

TV REBOOTING.

And....looky looky!

OK here is my disclaimer:

PLEASE READ BEFORE FLASHING:

All I can tell you is what the tech told me, so PLEASE READ THIS:

This firmware is ONLY for the 4095/4695D series. This firmware is NOT NOT NOT for the 4096/4696. The "6" series requires a 1024 update (whether it fixes the overscan I do NOT know).

So AGAIN, this update is ONLY for the 4095D and 4695D series. I can verify personally it works with the 4695D. EVERYTHING is at your risk, as always.

USE AT OWN RISK!

Here are the instructions. Follow them CAREFULLY:

1.) Get file from here: http://www.yousendit.com/download/Ql...eFhubHcwTVE9PQ

This file will be hosted for 7 days from today.

2.) Put file on USB memory stick and double click the file and click extract to have it extract to the USB memory stick

3.) Turn on your TV.

4.) Tune it into AIR mode by pushing the source button.

5.) Press MUTE, then 7, then 8, then 9, and then EXIT

6.) Sit back and watch. TOUCH NOTHING

7.) The TV will turn off by itself at the end. Turn it back on and enjoy JustScan mode from the picture menu!

8.) Rejoice and eat corn on the cob.

Here are some screenshots of mine, working 1:1 pixel-mapped!

16:9 mode

Just Scan mode FOR THE WIN (my hand was shaking - sorry for the blurries )

I can tell you for SURE that switching between 16:9 and JustScan modes = SHARPER text, CLEARLY. All the text shimmering I had is gone. It's gorgeous, and as the TV was clearly supposed to be shipped. Yay!

Any USB drive should be fine.

You're a Godsend William. Damn, I'm at work. Two questions.
Would the upgrade reset all my picture settings?
And
"4.) Tune it into AIR mode by pushing the source button." Does Air means any HD offair channels or it doesn't matter?
Thanks

I just pushed the source button till it displayed AIR in the top left. I don't actually have any TV hookup so I can't tell you anything else.

Also, it does NOT reset your picture settings. At least mine didn't...

DONE!!! For some strange reason didn´t work the first time.

Unfortunately I´m fixing my PC right now but could see the new option in the menu and the firmware info.

William, thanks again.

Thanks! I'm gonna upgrade tonight. You actually saved me some trouble, my tech was scheduled for tomorrow and they insisted I take off the TV from the wall. But I know it's just USB upgrade and i had extention usb cable attached. I cancelled the service.

Quote from the Service Manual: "Turn on your TV and check the source is 'Analog TV Mode.'" This means to me that it should be on an NTSC, not an ATSC, channel.

Also, you insert the flash drive after the TV is turned on to the NTSC channel, and you remove it after it says "Completed."

To check your firmware version: Menu>Setup>Information Help. Highlight "ON." Press "INFO" on remote.

cant seem to get mine to air mode...hmmm i just have an hdmi from comcast to tv
Will cable work?
A little disappointed by one thing, though. I can now see odd "green lines" on the right of the picture in Just Scan mode. They're not there in 16:9 mode.

So...I guess that sucks!

Do NOT use "Cable," that's QAM, not NTSC. If you have never used your OTA antenna jack, it may be necessary for you to do a channel scan while in the TV/Air Mode (using the "Antenna" button on the remote to get into that sub-mode,) although mine defaulted to channel 3 NTSC. I did a channel scan anyway.

So NTSC channels are NOT HD channels correct? For example, KQED or PBS channels in my area is 9 but 9-1 is the HD version of that channel. So, I should tune to 9 correct? Not 9-1 which is ATSC.

Will that tech guy get fired for sending the FW update? I seems samsung does not want the end user to perform the upgrade themselves.

Yep, overscan supposely hides those ugly lines that stations do not want us to see, but we can always go back to 16:9. JustScan options should be really nice for HD-DVD or BluRay.
If one is to upgrade on your own, will you be voiding the TV's Warrenty? What happens if something messes up during the upgrade? Will Samsung fix it for you?

No, they're there on my PS3/ Blu-ray AND my HTPC connected. :|

No he will not, because I'm not saying where I got it from.

No idea, though I'm sure Samsung will void your warranty if it's not authorized by them and done through their techs.

Hi,

when you download the file it is missing the .exe extension. Is it a zip file or do you get rename the file with a .exe after it?

Also, how long did the process take?
The firmware problem:

OK so here's the problem I have with my set: IT ONLY AFFECTS JustScan mode, so it's not anything to be worried about, firmware-wise, as you haven't lost anything. I'm interested in other people's findings here.

This is from my HTPC connected at 1080p over HDMI. PS3 exhibits the same problem. I tested Gran Turismo HD and Casino Royale.

It's a self-extracting zip file. It took about 30 seconds or so to do the upgrade.

That's not good! Gee, it fixes overscan but now we have new problem. hmmm...maybe that's why Samsung pull off the FW? Maybe that's why my tech says new board is required.
Here's another picture. I called back my tech to explain it to him, and he's phoning around now to figure out what the deal is. After my initial excitement, I'm definitely a bit disappointed.

From Casino Royale at 1080p Just Scan on my PS3

Uhmm, when I finish fixing my PC i´ll report.
Yeah, please report back if you have the same issue.

Also, if anyone actually had a board replaced, let us know if you have the issue too!
Do you have a second 1080 LCD around with HDMI or DVI input which you could plug your HTPC into? So that you could do a pixel to pixel comparison along the edges. This way you could confirm (before asked by Samsung) that it is with the processing by the set and not the signal from the device.

Remember this "weirdness" is only affecting my Just Scan picture mode. All other picture modes are fine. Just....weird!
